My two cents re: ArmbandGate.

There may not be evidence that stealing the armband (That’s what it was. The instant he intentionally did not return the armband to its rightful owner while knowing it wasn’t his to keep, it became a theft) helped LCM win the game, but it’s evidence that at least one LCM coach (1) stole from another team, (2) lied when he had an obligation to tell the truth, and (3) took steps to cover up his theft even while direct inquiries were being made to him about the armband’s location and what he did with it. That has to be punished. If an attorney did something like this in a trial he might be disbarred. And, the team should have had to forfeit the game. Letting LCM skate on this invites exactly the message people are making here today, that “it must not have been that big of a deal if it didn’t warrant a forfeit.” It’s very much a big deal, an astonishing example of bad faith and dishonesty from a public employee in charge of children. It was a blatant violation of sportsmanship, human decency, and the law.

Most of us will remember that in 2018 PNG had to forfeit a game they won against Crosby under less severe circumstances. A coach had an iPad in the press box - Against the rules. So, even though it was agreed by the district members that there had been no effect on the game’s outcome, PNG was forced to forfeit. There was no lying, or hiding evidence by PNG as there was by LCM - it was simply, “You broke a rule and we have to send a message.” LCM broke the rules, and the district should have sent a stronger message.

Edit: After watching the entire hearing, I was too harsh in my above post.

(1) I didn’t hear anyone make an allegation that Gonzalez was directly questioned about where the armband was and lied in response, so I apologize for saying that he did;

(2) I don’t think his conduct is clearly a theft, and we don’t have enough to say it was. It’s one thing to take something you know doesn’t belong to you, and it’s another thing to receive something and intend to return it or at least not keep it, and then throw it to the ground because you know you’re not supposed to have it (that’s certainly dishonest, but I shouldn’t have called him a thief without hearing all the facts).
Also, testimony wasn’t clear whether he knew for a fact that the armband belonged specifically to BC when he received it. I kept waiting for someone to ask him that.

Like I said… they had to cheat to beat a 4A D2 school. Did Peevey forget how to coach or do they just suck up there? You be the judge.

Yeah if BC did not opt up for "travel" reasons  this whole situation could have been avoided.

This may be the most ridiculous comment in this entire thread.

It was in response to the BC fan making the comment about them beating a 4A D2 school, I was being facetious towards that comment.

I understand why the committee didn't find enough concrete evidence to forfeit the game or suspend other coaches. that said, did anyone that's not from LCM watch the proceedings today and come away with an opinion of anything other than everyone pretty much knew what happened, but also didn't feel like they could prove it enough to allow for further action? This is a horrible look for LCM, and they look worse rather than better after this meeting, despite the victory a few of the more delusional folks are claiming.

This is exactly how I felt and the impression I got. Basically they couldn't overturn the call on the field and it was upheld rather than confirmed.

I’ve kept quiet about this, but I talked to a BC defensive starter after the game. When asked what happened in the first half, he nailed it. “They got one of our bands and knew our plays before the snap. We went back to signaling plays in from the sideline and they couldn’t stop us.”

That’s the whole “adjustment” that BC coaches made… they stopped giving the plays to LCM.

BC was stopped on their 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th possession of the 2nd half.

Care to revisit this convo? Maybe I missed it when they even remotely suggested thats what BC was looking for in their statements or concerns.

UIL doesn't rule on criminal things like theft. It's irrelevant for this ruling by UIL.

That's for BC to discuss with local law authorities.

IMO, both schools looked ridiculous in this whole thing.

+ Me. I wasn't going to say anything, but since you did I'll second the opinion.

Btw I got in trouble with a judge in Beaumont once when I was on jury duty, for my comments about preponderance of evidence.

Edit: not trouble as in legal trouble, just a comment from him about my stated definition of preponderance.

Everyone knows that it is long gone.  It must have gotten tossed really far on the sidelines.  BC did say they cancelled it and ordered another one.

Yeah they cared so much about getting the watch back they called a UIL meeting.

Serious Question: Would it be wrong if the next time I see Peevy I ask him what time he has? Or if we let him be the "all time" time keeper so we don't go over?

All I've seen all over facebook is that Peevey would never cheat. maybe he didn't know this was happening real time, but watching the spin he put on this and the firm denials he's still sticking to, I've developed some new opinions of him.

If Gonzales still has a job, Peevey condones cheating.

Maybe the third time Gonzales is on the UIL carpet for cheating, Peevey will see the light, I guess

Do any teams in this  district have a chance to win a game in round 1? Only if you host and only if you get Chapel Hill, all the others will be IN TROUBLE!

NOooooooooo lol

Your statements became irrelevant the moment you said BC was "playing up a weight class" in this district. Past that not many paying much attention to what you post lol

Well, if a district is weak because your team is in it, what does that say about your team?

Y’all need to ask yourselves why that state championship caliber coach can’t get the Bears out of the first round.

I’ve read this week that a forfeiture wasn’t ever a real possibility so if that true I’m  left wondering why BC took it to this to this level? I completely understand the ethics issue and totally support that, but if the BC folks knew getting the game results overturned was not going to happen then it makes them look like they just had it out to shed negative publicity on LCM and to discredit Coach Gonzales and Peevey.  LCM definitely didn’t handle this the right way, but if that’s all BC wanted to do then that’s wrong as well and two wrongs don’t make one right. But I don’t have a dog in this fight it’s just my simple observation.
