How soon can we expect trump to announce that somebody… ANYBODY is willing to make a trade deal with us? So far the tariff policies have resulted in exactly zero agreements. They aren’t blinking, so Trump paused them for 90 days. We’re in an exceptionally bad spot. Glass half empty? You really do live under a rock. Zero agreements???? $100 loaf of bread? Hyperbole much? Before retirement, I did a lot of work with China. Was a lead design engineer for multiple Lubrizol projects in China. As soon as they were complete, the CCCP basically took them over. I’m pretty familiar with the Chinese economic system. Their collapse would happen long before the U.S. Quote

Gas has not gone down in fact I paid $2.80 per gallon to fill up patrol vehicle at BP. Purchased 2 uncle Ben’s rice and 2 frozen crawfish tail packets at Walmart for $54.00. The same poor folks that voted for him are the ones who are suffering. Meals on wheels are no longer taking new clients because their grants have been taken away. The United way food distribution lines are long on Wednesday and Fridays because groceries have gone up and people on fixed income are really struggling. You spoke of your medical coverage for your loved one. My prayers go out to them. Baby King Trump is trying to pass a bill that would give vouchers to cover medical bills to current and retired civil service law enforcement. I retired with 25 years of federal law enforcement service and been living with cancer since 2020. If his bill passes the Senate it would hurt people like me who paid in. It’s okay to say “yeah, I voted for him, but this isn’t working out like he said it would-it’s a little concerning.” It’s the ones who say “oh, none of this matters… Trump won and this is all his plan. Art of the Deal!” Those are the guys who just don’t have any sense. Quote

OlDawg Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago 5 hours ago, DCT said: I understand. This will be a long post, so don’t read if you wish. I’ll try to explain my thoughts. To answer your gas questions, this was my business for decades. Gas is a commodity that fluctuates with the seasons & barrel pricing. While Brent & WTI are low right now, Spring seasonal blends (required for environmental regulations) add significant cost. I wouldn’t expect prices to come down a lot until late summer if the barrel price remains low. Mudbugs are expensive everywhere this year. Plus, core season isn’t until Mid May. You’ll pay more the earlier you buy. Now, to the core with some background. I grew up on a farm in far north Texas. We were literally poor as the dirt we farmed & went bankrupt due to a bad season & weather. My dad was able to get on at the local DuPont La Porte plant starting out bagging 100 lb bags and paid back all of our debts. I learned to be frugal at an early age. My wife & I have always lived well below our means. I shop for basics at Aldi as I find them much cheaper than anyone else. Other groceries I typically buy at Kroger using digital or regular coupons. If it’s not on sale—or I don’t have a coupon—I don’t buy it. We only eat out 1 or 2x a month. Then, it’s usually Chilis, or Subway, or our local Texmex. Sometimes, Popeyes—if I have a coupon. I use my Veteran discount everywhere that allows. My wife’s disease is untreatable & incurable. It is a Parkinson’s Plus disease (CBD/PSP) which has a life expectancy of 7 years. We’ve beaten that already by almost a year. Every day is a blessing. I’m sure you know what I mean & Im sorry for your cancer. Wishing you the best! What I don’t want is to lose her prematurely because of a side effect that we can’t get medical care to address. For the first time, I didn’t vote. So, I won’t slam. But, I can critique with—what I try to be fair—criticisms. I wouldn’t have voted for Harris—period. Trump scared me with his stance on medical. But, I felt he would be better on immigration & the economy. Not a fan of tariffs, but I understand his goal. I wish the tax cuts being permanent had been first on his agenda. I’m good with immigration. Basically, I’m okay for now with his performance. I haven’t seen a large spike in prices because of how I shop. The prices that are higher have been higher since the last administration and are because of ‘sticky prices.’ Once they go up, they rarely come back down to Pre-inflation levels. We’ll see how it goes from here. baddog, DCT, Reagan and 1 other 2 1 1 Quote

SmashMouth Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago I don't agree with everything DJT does. If I did, then I would be a mindless automaton like many people seem to be. But I can tell you right now, between DJT and Crazy Uncle Joe or Kamala the Ho, the choice is simple and crystal clear. Those were the choices. I made mine, and I'm happy with it. The choice to me was to go in the exact opposite direction of where I thought we should be headed (Biden/Harris) or head in the right direction with a few roadblocks and detours to navigate (Trump). It may take longer than I'd like, and the detours may be a little bumpy, but I'm gonna have a better chance at getting where I want to go with DJT. The alternative choice (ultra-progressive) was not only never going to even get me in the vicinity of where I wanted to be, it was going to put ALL of us in a bad place. Piss...moan... do whatever you like, but we will be in a better position when this is all said & done. 5GallonBucket, thetragichippy, OlDawg and 1 other 3 1 Quote

The sky is not falling,,,,,if China does not need us, why did the lift their 125% tariffs on semiconductors, Pharmaceuticals and microchips? That is really putting the hurt on us🤣 It almost seems like you're rooting for China so you will be right and Trump will be wrong.......that's really a bad look Quote

Bottom line, Trump knows he has 4 years to fundamentally change all of our trade agreements to be more fair to us. So he is moving fast, but unlike first time, he has a staff that supports him and he learned many lessons during that first term. The ABC interview......"I'm not 100% sure we will finish this interview" - he is not taking crap and is determined to get his agenda done. I bet we get tax cuts and the Beautiful bill by memorial day! Quote
