Another victory for Newton. I'm hearing some disturbing news about Newton, playing sloppy. To late in the year for that to be going on. It's about to get real. Corrigan is having a down year. Should be another easy victory for Newton. What is y'alls take. Still haven't seen a game yet.

Not sure where you got that false information. Hemphill came to play last night just like they do every year when then play newton. They are a good football team coaches really well. Newton played real good on defense. Played good up front on the O line. Hemphill did tackle well last night. It was a good football game hats off to Hemphill and good luck to them in playoffs.

Scoring the same touchdown three times before it counted = sloppy

I watched that game and I can tell you this.Newton did not play sloppy. It can be said Hemphill played Sloppy in the 4th quarter. Other than that both teams battled it out. It seems Newton not winning by 60 points every game is playing sloppy? That’s some fantasy but not reality. I guess Newton playing a very good team and just winning is not good enough. That’s ego talking not the players performance on the field.

Look above. I did not see the game. If you have to score the same touchdown three times before it counts = sloppy.

Newton is young. 11 sophomore 7 juniors on the varsity. I think they are playing pretty good football.
eagleforever, why would you get on this site and downgrade these young kids?
whatever your hang up is, get over it....

Not downgrading, but I don't wear rose colored glasses either. If you want a participation trophy, then it is fine.

Don't have a dog in the fight anymore but I can say this...Newton is young but they're getting better every game. Heavy is the crown and these young men will carry that weight. I think they'll have a good playoff run but it's not going to be another Jerry World year. It's a tough grind for these smaller powerhouse programs to always live up to your reputation (WO-S) had a similar year or two but they will be just fine! WO-S is showing that they just might be a Jerry World team this year. Be patient and it trust in your program.

Who said anything about a participation trophy? Newton didn’t play sloppy at all 2 good teams played a good game. Hemphill is well coached and showed up with a good game plan and executed it on defense. They did a good job of making of tackling. I would say the fourth quarter newton showed that state title pedigree that they have and took over the game. Hats off to Hemphill though there is no reason they shouldn’t win atleast the first playoff game or atleast be in the game and have a chance to win.

I agree, especially with Waskom's starting QB out.

What does that even mean scoring on same play 3 times before it counts=sloppy?

you score a TD and it is called back because of a penalty, you score again and it is called back because of a penalty, and you score again and no penalty and score counts.

My bad. It was Waskoms QB not Daingerfield.

Newton is probably the only team to ever score a TD, get it called back for a penalty and score again. Wow, we may have made sloppy history.

Not one time, but twice. That kind of sloppiness will get you in the playoffs.

    • No doubt. It's definitely intriguing enough to watch how this all plays out...
    • We all know that each state has its own laws which can be very different, especially in endeavors like annexation or incorporation, so there is no telling what Louisiana law says. I don’t know but I doubt that there is a point of appeal for Baton Rouge to force St. George to be absorbed back into Baton Rouge by now giving them what they asked for years ago. “Oh, we lost? Well let’s just undo incorporation, ruled as legal by the Supreme Court (of LA)  by going back and giving them what they asked for”. There has to be a law allowing such an appeal. I think what I read about the lower court decisions which actually backed up Baton Rouge, they did not all rule that incorporation was illegal but that they did not think the city could have services up and running soon enough. So you have a court saying that sure you can split but only if we agree that you can provide services get enough. In Louisiana, who knows? I doubt that Texas has such a mechanism to allow a city to split, for example, could the west end of Beaumont say that they wish to make their own city against Beaumont’s objection? I doubt it. Certainly Beaumont could allow a city to be created as Port Arthur did with Bridge City and Taylor’s Landing. There is a huge difference in allowing and forcing which is what happened in Baton Rouge. Similar to the sometime discussed topic of Texas splitting off from the United States because they don’t like the way things are going, think if citizens in any city in the United States were allowed to create their own city, which could not be stopped by the parent city.  That could get interesting!! Don't like what is happening in the south side of Chicago? Just de-annex and create your own city!! Anyway, I thought that it is an interesting story when the capital city splits in half.
    • Wasn't that 1st round loss last year? Also, during those previous 10 years I am pretty sure Jasper didn't go 2-58 in district play in the other 5 sports.
    • Ma'am, I don't think he said all Muslims were like that. If I'm reading this right, he's referencing the terrorist Muslims. You know, the ones who commit murder & have no regard for anyone who doesn't follow their jihadist beliefs...
    • Great playoff run, no doubt.  They did make the 3rd round(1 less) 4 of the previous 10 years, only one first round loss. 6 district championships and 4 second place.  The only 4 years Carthage was in the same district. So no, I'm not sure it does make sense.
