Franklin 28 Newton 20/Final

The Newton Eagles continue their journey in the Class 3A, Division II playoffs as they take on the Franklin Lions in this regional semifinal.  Newton, 8-4 on the season and the district champions of 11-3A-I, reached this round with a 56-7 bi-district win over Buffalo and a 35-6 area round victory over Marlin.  Meanwhile, the Lions, 12-0 in the season and the champion of district 12-3A-II, reached this round with a 45-21 bi-district win over Garrison and a 42-0 area round victory over Clifton 42-0.

The winner of this game will face the Corrigan-Camden/Crockett winner.

Two big turning points in the game

*Franklin turning Newton over on downs after Newton had 1st and goal in first half

Of course there were some other big plays but those seemed to be the two crucial momentum changers.

Congrats Eagles on a great season

Great year. This was a rebuilding year with a lot of injuries. A lot of young kids stepped up. Newton will get a lot of kids back next year and some good speed coming up. Future looks real good for Newton the next few years.

WT came up to me after the game last night and I told him,'we had a good year and we got some good kids coming back'. He replied, yes we do.

Proud of the Eagles. Can't wait until next year.
