kicker
I have been too. With some things I have seen and heard though, Im starting to believe in that #1 myself. Its the target factor that scares me. Of course we have always gotten everyone's best effort despite our ranking. We could be on the verge of a few special years on Newton street. kicker
Also, of the videos I have seen of 3 on 3, The linemen are actually pretty big. Seems bigger than normal. If anyone has video or pics of last nights MM, maybe post the links, etc. Edited August 7, 2015 by kicker

chukslegacy
I like the fact that WOS is ranked #1 in PRESEASON polls, but I have my reservations, since it was stated that they only had one returning starter! Also a lot has been said about this years team based on little league success, big difference I might add! JMO Kj Dad
kicker
Actually we have 6 returning I believe. 1/5 offense and defense respectively. Also, it's not just the little league success, it's the groups success as a whole. From what I hear they are fast and disciplined. You mix that with the coaches we have and you have a recipe for success. chukslegacy, Gasilla and Kj Dad

Also a lot has been said about this years team based on little league success, big difference I might add! JMOFor sure.... because Bridge City wore that group out in Little League and junion high. For real, though... You have to assume that WOS is going to be good, just like always, but #1 considering only six returning starters is a stretch. I'm ready for some football! chukslegacy
td
BC didn't wear the Jr. class out! They beat us in 7th grade and lost in 8th grade and never beat us in youth football. Sure would be fun to see what would happen now too. Gasilla

Goblin
WOS preseason AP Poll rankings over the years:1986 #1 - State Champs (13-2)1987 #6 - State Champs (15-0)1988 #1 - Lost in State Finals to Paris (12-3)1989 #6 - Lost in Bi-District to C.E. King (10-1)1990 #4 - Lost in Bi-District to C.E. King (9-2)1991 #4 - Lost in Bi-District to C.E. King (8-3)1993 #8 - Lost in Area to LaMarque (10-2)1998 #6 - Lost in Bi-District to Silsbee >;( (10-1)2001 #4 - Didn't make the playoffs (5-5)2004 #1 - Lost in Bi-District to Huffman (7-3)2005 #3 - Lost in State Semifinals to State Champ Wimberley (12-1)2006 #3 - Lost in Area to Giddings (11-1)2008 #8 - Lost in Regionals to Gilmer (10-1)2009 #4 - Lost in Bi-District to Coldspring (8-3)2011 #9 - Lost in Quarterfinals to Coldspring (10-4)2014 #7 - Lost in State Finals to Gilmer (13-3) Kind of funny we weren't even ranked in the top 10 preseason in the following seasons, all of which ended at the hands of eventual State Champs:11-1-1 in 1985 leading eventual state champ Houston Yates in the 4th quarter yet losing in the Regionals 11-2 in 1995 leading eventual state champ LaMarque in the 4th quarter yet losing in the Regionals12-1 in 1997 losing to eventual state champ LaMarque in the Regionals15-1 in 2000 losing to state champ Ennis in the Finals13-1 in 2012 losing to eventual state champ Navasota in the Quarterfinals11-2 in 2013 losing to eventual state champ Carthage in the Quarterfinals Bottom line is that WOS knows how to reload... they do have a tendency to falter when they have a target on their backs though. kicker
Are you sure we were 5-5 in 01? Thought other than '84 our only non-winning season was 1999 at 5-5. Also, If I remeber correctly, we were ranked #2 behind LaMarque in '98.

Goblin
Kicker, yep I'm 100% sure. You do realize I'm WOS87 in disguise? The admins know. We're all good now. WOS went 7-3 in 1999 and their only losing season was 1983 when they went 3-7. We were ranked #2 when we lost to Silsbee in 1998 but were only #6 preseason. The only local teams to knock off WOS when they were ranked #1 in the AP were West Brook twice in '88 and '91, CE King in '89 and Jasper in '04. To PNG yes we most definitely would drop in the polls. Might actually be a good thing to get rid of that target. Edited August 8, 2015 by Goblin Mr. Buddy Garrity

I know we lost to #1 LaMarque in the 3rd round (we should have won, we were the better team. Too many mistakes) and I thought we were in the top 5 being undefeated. Going back to the '97 season, many people dont remember but I want to say us, LCM, PNG and Nederland were all undefeated until they played each other. If I remember correctly, we gave Big Ned their first loss then had to turn around and give either LCM or PNG their first loss. Ill go back and look. Our district was brutal back then. Its not like PNG is (as Coach Thompson says) a "weak sister of the poor" team. lol. PNG looks to be pretty dang good this year. Win or lose, that game helps both of us tremendously.
