liltex Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 I don't believe It'll never shutdown, even though it needs work/updates.Awhile back there was serious talk to close it because of estimated repair updates.Alum circulated a petition I'm told and got enuff signatures to preserve it as a historic site. Now they can pursue gov.grant $$$$$$$$$ Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote
gary-us-bonds Posted June 28, 2015 Author Report Posted June 28, 2015 I am talking specifically about the name Robert E Lee because of who it was named after. They head to change the name of the Houston Westbury Rebels. Lee had to stop playing Dixie, as did Ole Miss. Ole Miss got rid of their mascot, though they are still called the Rebels. I don't think it will be much longer before they are required to rename the school after a less controversial figure. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote
prepballfan Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 PANAMANYERS since you brought it up do you believe they should have to change their name? Quote
gary-us-bonds Posted June 28, 2015 Author Report Posted June 28, 2015 no I do not. That starts you down a very slippery slope. I'm quite sure Arthur Stillwell for whom port Arthur was named was not a great guy by today's standards.we would have to rename the whole city.Washington, Lincoln, mlk, jfk all had very bad qualities by todays higher PC standards.they would all have to go. I would hate for Robert e lee high school in Baytown to have to change its name.maybe that would free up my Friday nights though. Not sure I would still have that same connection with a Baytown south generic high school. prepballfan 1 Quote
purpleeagle Posted June 28, 2015 Report Posted June 28, 2015 . Surely you can't have those names on a diploma either. All those people that have graduated should have to go back to school and start all over again. Quote

skipmeister Posted July 3, 2015 Report Posted July 3, 2015 Central and Westbook were the top teams around when there were only 2 high schools in Beaumont.I would agree. Just like Baytown, a third high school should have never happened in BMT. Alpha Wolf 1 Quote

Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted July 4, 2015 Report Posted July 4, 2015 It would be nice to see central and ozen combined 6a powerhouse in basketball and would compete in football. town politics wont allow that to happen, some folks in Baytown want Lee to close, I dont see that happening either. Quote
