whoisatfirst
Interested to hear who in y'all's mind is the best pitcher in the area. If you had to choose one guy to take the hill for you, who would it be?! Let the debate begin!
Wheel House
Silly question. Most are, or try to be, power pitchers with workable offspeed stuff. A few have legit breaking ball or change up. The seven behind the pitcher play a big part, allowing him to pitch to contact, instead of overpower a hitter. This helps the pitcher last longer, in the game and the season. But the biggest asset to a pitcher, and the one who can make a good pitcher look great, and a great pitcher look not so good is the one behind the plate. The set up, glove movement after a catch, framing, and even the catchers demeaner can open up or shrink the strike zone. STiger85
OLDGREGG
For me its either Tyler Kolek or Ethan Franklin. But if I had to choose only one to take the hill for me it would be Kolek, mainly because most high school kids just aren't gonna catch up to his heat! baseballaddict4
Have to be Tyler Koley don't see many HS arms up to 100 mph, but after him I would say Foshee from Vidor kid is a monster struck 15 out againist Nederland in 2 hit shut out last night. Beat #2 in state BH earlier in year also in a 3-2 game. Kid knows how to be big and get the W on the rubber. SteelerCzy
snafu
Eric Foshee is a good Manager of the game... mytwocents-28
Critter
Another way to make you call is do you want a guy that throws 96-100 mph and can only give you 3-4 innings or a guy throwing low 90's that can go the distance? IMO I'll take the guy that can go the distance with a solid catcher behind the plate anyday. Kolek or Foshee would be GREAT choices I'll be a homer and go with TEXAS Commit Chase Shugart from BC, Kids flat out brings everything he has 100% of the time. :D snafu and SteelerCzy
aTmfan06
I'd go with TCU commit Ethan Franklin
texas13
If you want a guy who can go the distance ethan franklin gives it everything he has got last year every district game he pitched he went the full 7 he doesnt usually have bad outings plus a low 90's fastball helps
IT'S IN THE BONE
i go with Ethan Franklin...seen the kid go 24/7 and be throwing stronger in the 7th than the 1st inning.
BobcatBaseball8
Have to be Kolek Anderson and Devo from Westbrook are good possibilities also
whoisatfirst
Facing high school bats, give me a guy throwing 90+ any day of the week. Kolek is a MAN, never seen the guy pitch, only video. 6'5 throwing mid 90s is hard to hit at any level. SteelerCzy
Critter
There is a difference between throwing hard and pitching. Gotta be able to hit the spot unless you have chasers :D But I agree Kolek's is a beast and that's just from watching video of him.
Rake1
How about the guy from Tarkington who just K'd 20 against Shepherd.....and beat both Kolek brothers in the same game. That's a high school highlight one kid won't forget. Rake1 P.S. No bad choices from the names listed above. Critter
idk
Two weeks ago Kolek was still throwing 96-98 in the 5th or 6th inning, I was there and seen the guns from the scouts. Last Thursday he had some pitches at 100-101 mph. I will take Kolek, he can go the distance when he will be allowed too. bleacher_bum
Would be very difficult to not pitch Kolek. I haven't seen a lot of the pitchers mentioned here and I know there are a whole bunch of quality pitching in our area (always is), but let's be honest, the type of pitcher Kolek is, doesn't come around very often. I wouldn't argue that every pitcher listed here is a definite quality pitcher, but I would start the 100 mph guy....I think disregarding knowing some of the pitchers listed makes a few of us "fans" and would sway our thought process, even come up with reasons why our hometown guy might be better than the others, but outside looking in (none of my hometown guys are listed here), Kolek would be most baseball people's choice. BTW...I would take ANY of the pitchers listed so far to start for my team any day. SteelerCzy
eagleswoodville#1
Tyler Kolek. Hands down. Ethan Franklin is a hell of a pitcher and probably the second option without a doubt. But Tyler Kolek is throwing 95-98 AND controlling it. That's the reason he's a projected 5-10 overall pick in the draft. There's no one around here that can come very close to him. Socrates
The kid mentioned from Tarkington (Evans) is simply a gamer. He probably can't break 85, but he had three good pitches working that night and was just not going to be beaten. A much better catcher than pitcher. Saw Kolek pitch again last night, 12 k in five innings. His control is much better than ever before and he is starting to mix in a pretty good slider and the occasional change. The sky is the limit for this kid. He is on another planet right now.
Woodshed
Kolek is definitely the #1 prospect in the area, but guys like Eric DeJesus (Diboll), Ethan Franklin (Koutnze), and Chase Shugart (BC) have certainly earned a place in the conversation.
