  1. Pump the brakes just a bit, BC played their worst game of the season against a good team that went 3-4 rounds deep in the playoffs last year. The strides they've made already are much greater than expected. The schedule is certainly not in the Cards favor but they will be competitive and have the potential for some more wins this year. Most folks would have bet against BC being .500 at this point before the season started so who knows where they end up. Rake1
  2. Got out of hand in a hurry..... What happened? Rake1
  3. Your post makes it seem like he wasn't doing that already? In reality the football program got a taste of what the baseball guys have been using to be so successful for all these years. Landry prepares well and runs great practices, absolutely gets the most out of his allotted time. These qualities along with his competitiveness translates well with his players in both sports. Rake1
  4. Can't say for sure why they did, but some of the most vocal have gotten awfully quiet. Not even celebrating some early success either. Just makes you wonder..... Rake1
  5. 2 of the best guys in the coaching profession, both on and off the field, on each sideline tonite. Both guys, Landry and Smalley are top notch and will continue to do great things for all their students. Congrats to Coach Landry, his staff and the team on a great win! Well prepared and well conditioned team gets a well deserved “W”. Rake1
  6. I have been following this thread for quite some time and finally decided to chime in so here goes... As a personal friend of Coach Landry I am excited to see how he does on the football field. My son not only played for him but he also coached with him so I feel like I can give a somewhat educated opinion on what he brings to the table. I will be truly shocked if the BC football team is not much more prepared and in better shape compared to last years squad. If Landry runs the football program like he does the baseball program then it will get better because he does a great job of preparing his players for just about any situation. How many wins that translates to who knows, but they will be more competitive and disciplined without a doubt. I have had a couple of friends from other schools who have kids playing on teams that BC has already scrimmaged and they all commented that you could tell a difference from last year. Just like with the baseball teams Landry will focus on what they do best and adapt to that instead of trying to be something they are not built to be. I wish the entire program nothing but success and hope they have a good season. Rake1 P.S. Personally I will enjoy (BC football having some sort of success) to no end knowing that some on this thread who are ridiculously vocal about the perceived discrepancies between football and baseball at BC have to not only root for the baseball coach to have success but actually have to give him credit at some point. Only time will tell.
  7. Thanks to all at SETXSports for streaming the game. Regardless who you were cheering for that was a fantastic high school ballgame. 2 incredible pitching performances from Simmons and Collins. Congrats to both squads! Rake1
  8. Both guys pitched against Vidor this season. Oceguera (Lamar commit) won the first time they played in district. Collins (U of H commit) pitched the second time in district and lost. Just because a guy has “college commit” associated with their name doesn’t guarantee success every time out. We all know and understand that. It’s just baseball and sometimes things happen. That’s why we love the sport. Rake1
  9. This may be the “post of the year”. Please let us know how that goes. Show me another local program that’s been more successful over the last 10 years. There aren’t many, if any. 20 plus consecutive years in the playoffs and more district titles in that time than any other school. Go troll somewhere else. Rake1
  10. Rest assured, “lumping” WOS into any conversation relating to baseball at this point is a stretch so you should be okay. Rake1
  11. PLEASE!! Stop with the umpire talk, it’s a bad look. We got shut out twice, tip your hat to Huffman for coming to BC and getting the job done. It’s a proven fact if you can’t score you can’t win and that’s what happened. Congrats to Huffman, BC will regroup and be back at it next season. Rake1
  12. Opened up district play dropping the first 3 games last season, all by 1 run and 1 of those against OF was in extra innings. Rake1
  13. Nice try attempting to make this personal, I'm only speaking about the subject, nothing more. Never defended anything in my previous statement, only added to the conversation. The assertion was made that BC teaches their kids to blame others, not much could be farther from the truth except the comment about the Robinson game. People have every right to an opinion about any subject, that's what makes great debates and discussions. In fact, informed discussions are even better so if there is some sort of information out there that backs up some of these claims hopefully it can be posted on here so everyone can see it. If there is not anything out there then this will more than likely go down as a difference of opinions. Rake1 P.S. My lens color is blue/green, makes it easier to see fish in off colored water.
  14. There are several folks who frequent this board that truly know the game of baseball and are great to have a discussion with and then there are folks who make comments like this one and few others in this thread. Here are few things to think about....... 1. There is no denying the rule in question that LCM called out BC on, it's in black and white, no dispute. What can be added to the conversation is that this practice of bringing up JV guys to the varsity game after they played their JV game is more common than most realize. It's happened for years. These guys occasionally get in the varsity game as pinch runners because if they were good enough to be an impact player they would be in the varsity lineup from the start. Next time you go to a varsity game take a look at the guys when they warm up, you can spot the ones who just got done playing. I'm not saying it happens every day but it happens more than most people know. 2. Saying that a "coach got them" is a bad look. Regardless of whatever motive took place LCM gained nothing with the move, no district championship and a first round playoff exit. Bridge City forfeited the games in question and everybody moved on. At least most folks did. 3. The statement concerning "mentality" and "that's how they are coached at BC" shows just exactly how out of touch some people are. The staff at BC is one of the top in the area and the program has arguably been one of the best in the area for quite some time. You don't build a program like that, send dozens of players to the collegiate level (and now pro - Jake Lemoine) by teaching guys to blame someone else, that's just a really weak statement, by someone with little to no knowledge of the BC program, that holds no truth whatsoever. Rake1 P.S. Umps didn't get them against Robinson, Chad Hollingsworth did. He was the Friday night guy for Univ of Texas. He was a good one.
  15. Hands down OF is the deepest and best team in the district regardless of the standings. BC is probably 3rd overall but they will make it interesting with how they handle their staff for the rest of district play. If BC has any luck on their side and some of the other very good teams like Silsbee and OF either beat up on one another or have an off night BC may sneak up and surprise some folks. For the time being OF can be happy they more than likely don't see BC's #1 arm during district because that has the potential to be a coin flip if that happens. Even if OF see's BC's #1 they still have the edge because offensively they are just better. BC would certainly have a "puncher's chance" because good pitching has that effect. BC has been down the last couple of years, especially offensively, so they are relying heavily on good pitching performances, scratching out a few hits, and solid defense until they can get some help from the younger classes coming up in the next couple of years. Until that time they will be vulnerable but certainly not out of the running. This district is always so much fun to watch and will continue to be for quite some time. Great programs from top to bottom, period. Rake1
  16. Carpenter pitched a great game, big win right there. Rake1
  17. It can also hurt, not seeing live game pitching for an extended period or playing at game speed can make you rusty as well. Always 2 sides to it. Either way I hate it for the WOS seniors and their program. Rake1
  18. No doubt that BC was presented with extra opportunities and they made the most of them. On the other hand BC pitched well enough and played good enough defense to not give any extra opportunities to Silsbee either. Always a competitive game between these 2 squads, always will be. Rake1
  19. Let me help you out with something HOTROD, lots of Silsbee folks know who I am and I have plenty of friends over there. For years I have had some really good interactions with them and have a very "good natured" back and forth with AAW. In fact AAW was always very kind and complimentary to me and my son when he was playing several years ago. For you to come on here and use profanity towards me goes against everything my friends from Silsbee as well as other places stand for. Don't accuse me of anything that you don't know about. Rake 1
  20. Exactly like I said earlier "BC made their hits count". BC also pitched better too. Not exactly sure where the previously mentioned box score came from but the scoreboard last night had BC with 8 hits as did Gamechanger. I understand their are discrepancies between the way folks score certain things but that had to be mentioned just for the sake of argument. And just because some want to call it a "little league box score" we can add into it that 1 of Silsbee's 4 total runs scored via a passed ball as well. You can take the box score and twist any way you want it, I do it all the time myself so I get it. End of the day one team played better than the other and took advantage of their opportunity. Rake1
  21. Triple with the bases juiced will go a long way as one of the 5 hits. BC made them count tonite. Rake1
  22. LCM and BC have identical records, BC has the tiebreaker in head to head competition at the moment. This district is far from decided, lots of good ball left to play and the parity is off the chart this year! Rake1
  23. Final score 4-1 BC Carpenter throws 2 hit complete game. Rake1
  24. Thanks for the suggestion! I think I’ll do that next time and just get text updates from the games I don’t get to see personally. Much better that way and easier to follow. Problem solved!!
