1.
The debate has been discussed before and every year the coach will choose what is best for HIS team that year. I doubt anyone argues that the team who wins the state championship is NOT the best team? UIL allows the coaches to agree or "flip" a coin, it can go either way for you. Ultimely you have to have your team prepared to win one game or a series. Yes, one inning can lose it for you, but everybody got the same number of "at bats". I did not see the BC coaches complaining after the game, they sucked it up, shook hands and went about their business. Besides, the State Tounament is a single game and not a series.
No the state tournament is not a "series" but you do have to play 2 games in 2 days so it's the exact same thing. Teams riding one guy usully learn that the hard way. Also as far as 1 bad inning goes that's just baseball, like it or not. Huffman lost out on a call that resulted in a run on a wild pitch that appeared to hit a BC batter. BC really lost out on the bad call at third when the runner left early to score Huffman's first run, BC appealed the call which should have been the 3rd out and left the score 4-0. Instead Huffman did what good teams do and capitalized en route to winning a great game. It's baseball and it happens. I will add one thing, I have never seen a home plate umpire cut a pitchers warm up tosses in half before the inning starts like they did to Guidry from BC in the 5th. Ump said he was "speeding up the game due to heat", absolutely ridiculous. Each pitcher got the right number of tosses after that inning. Really weird....... Rake1
 2.
with bases loaded the 2nd base ump would be inside so fly ball catch no catch would be the first base umpire to go out on a right field side fly ball
Where are the 3rd base ump and home plate umps looking? Who has the tag up at 2nd and 3rd? Rake1
 3. Mr. Ump, just curious about the protocol used by a 4 man umpiring crew in a certain situation, hopefully you can help me out..... Example.. bases loaded, fly ball to right center gap, where is each umpires responsibility during the play? Thanks, Rake1
 4.
On a normal day OF doesnt stand a chance.  But as everyone knows....Basebal isnt normal.
Wow? that's a mighty big statement right there don't ya think? Not sure anyone who has seen these two teams play several games would go along with that at all. With both teams at 100% and each team starting their #1 (Smith for OF and Powell for Silsbee) it will be a much better game than some would imagine. Silsbee has a much deeper offense as they can swing it all the way through the lineup. OF on the other hand can small ball it with the best of them and Trawhon knows exactly when to do it so that keeps them in the game more often than not. If Smith is able to keep the Silsbee bats from going crazy early it should be a good game. If Silsbee swings it like they are capable of swinging it then you can guess the result. If it's a one game situation it could be a classic, I'd love to see it. Good luck to both sides and to all my friends from each school, hate the fact that 21-3A will lose a team but someone has to move on and represent. Rake1
 5.

Looks like Landry is liking this from his tweets.
I noticed that.  ;D
Surely both of you above know what happens when you "assume", it makes you no better than those who earlier in this thread made assumptions based on little to no evidence either way. Unless you have direct knowledge or are directly involved it often pays off in the long run to stay out of the discussion. Respectfully, Rake1
 6.
I like having the option, 1 or 3 game. If you make it mandatory 3 game series in baseball, then shouldn't it be that way at the state tourney as well? Also, if baseball has it, shouldn't basketball have it as well?
I like the option of 1 or 3 games, no argument. I do believe however the best team usually wins in a series type format, not 100% but certainly in most cases. As far as the state tourney goes you could almost say it was like a series because you have to win 2 games in 2 days. I know it's not against the same team but it's similar because you have to have more than just 1 guy. As far as that "inferior sport of basketball" is concerned let them do the same, they are just taking up time and space until baseball season. ;D Rake1
 7.

It seems the consensus is with BC... anything can happen in a 1 game series. I wish they would make it where every round has to be best of 3. I feel like that is a much better representation of who the better team is. Good luck Cards, bring it home for 21-3a
Everyone has played one game series for the whole year getting to this point . And now that they made it to this point by one game series.  Now you think the only way to see who has the best team is a three game series. I think it may show who has more depth but not who is better. I feel if the playoffs were to be only 3 game series. Then the rest of the regular season should be that way also .
Hear this argument every year during the playoffs, I am a "series" fan for sure. Teams that ride one horse in single game series through the playoffs are almost always "exposed" if they are fortunate enough to make the state tourney when they have to play back to back games. Better teams are deeper and much better equipped to handle those situations and not so reliant on an "all or nothing one guy carries us" scenario. Just my opinion. Rake1
 8.
In one of the best district races that I can remember in a while, Silsbee and BC with all the chips on the table played a good game. I think the first two where a little bit better. Both of the first two games could have gone either way. In BC Silsbee controlling the early part of the first game then BC fighting back to send it to extra innings and pulling it out at the end. THEN in Silsbee BC controlling the early part of the second game then Silsbee fighting back to seal it in the end. Those two where awesome games. This third game Silsbee controlled from start to finish, pulling away in the end. It was a good game. Silsbee with a District Championship and a #1 seed. Way to go Tigers, congrats and good luck. Go Tigers!!! [/quot Great series this year, 2-2. Enjoyable games for sure. Rake1
 9. Thanks Cats80! It's all good! Your on the good list for sure! Rake1
 10.
Congratulations Tigers.CO- District Champs! That 1 seed is huge.
Fixed it for you. ;D (you can't have everything LOL!) Rake1
 11.
I'm not sure what the issue is or who the man is but I can assure you Silsbee has several classy fans and I'm sad to see someone misrepresent us. Don't take the one as a representation of the rest of us. Apologies.
Silsbee has a ton of great quality folks that I absolutely love like family, they are the best. 1 idiot will not change my opinion of them ever! Great people and good kids, I'm glad to know them and feel fortunate they are my friends. Good luck in the playoffs. Rake1
 12.
Calm down Sammy- he's somebody's grandpa just messing around. Don't get sour because you cleared your bench trying to find someone to throw a strike.
Old white hat is Classless, Bush league, trash. Old man in no way represents the good people of Silsbee. Rake1
 13. Nobody in 21-3A plays tomorrow that I know of? A month ago all the teams had their games moved in preparation of the testing, put them on their schedule, and then last week one of the games got moved. I was just wondering if their was some sort of rule or stipulation that had to be followed? Or did the teams that moved do it on their own? Rake1
 14. Just curious as to why some teams in 21-3A had to reschedule their games and others did not? The coaches were made aware of the test schedule and adjusted their game schedules accordingly. Just wondering why some teams had to move while others stayed with their schedule from a month ago? Rake1
 15. Buna will be okay at WOS as long as they return the home run balls. ;D Rake1
 16. Am I crazy or does this whole situation sounds like something that would take place at a little league park? Certainly not at a High School Varsity baseball game. Just out of curiosity what would have happened if the HR ball had landed in a spot it could not be retrieved or found? For example in the pasture behind left field at WOS or in the trees beyond the rightfield fence in Silsbee or any other place like that? I'm thinking you grab a game ball or a new one at the sporting goods store, write the date and info that one, and put it on or in your trophy case and be done with it. Not saying it's right or wrong but I don't ever remember an opposing teams coach being responsible for another teams home run ball? Just seems like a lot of drama over an incident that never should have happened. Respectfully, Rake1
 17. Congrats to the Silsbee Tigers on the win. Good game with several changes in momentum. The Tigers made the most of a couple of breaks that went their way and got it done. Very similar to last game, the team with the fewest errors came out on the wrong end of the score. Strange how baseball works. It's awful tough to beat a good team 3 times in a row. Both teams have to put their heads down and grind out the season if there is to be a "round 3" because there is plenty of baseball left to play. Again Congrats to Tigers on the "W". Rake1
 18.
BC got lucky in the first game, winning on the only error by Silsbee. BC is a hard place to go in and win a game, you have to play as close to perfect ball as you can to win there. Silsbee out hit, out pitched, and out played BC only to be done in at the end of the game. I see the same thing happening this game, but this time BC has to play as close to perfect ball as they can to win in Silsbee. I have not seen to many clean games from BC this year, to many errors. Silsbee winning by 2, but I'm a homer. Go Tigers!!!
STiger85, before I post I would like you to know all I'm saying is "there are 2 sides to every coin" and my comments are purely for discussion and not antagonizing. Just offering up another side or another view. Not saying either one is right or wrong, it's just another view. "I come in peace" ;D 1. One side says the other team "got lucky" while one side says "good teams figure out a way to win", truth in both statements. 2. Silsbee out hit BC in the first game, no doubt we agree on that. Hard to dispute facts. 3. Silsbee out pitching BC is one that could be looked at a little differently, just hear me out on this for a minute before dismissing the thought. Powell had a textbook game going, only 2 hits and very little traffic on the bases, he was impressive and I was proud for him since our families are really close friends. Powell goes 5 1/3 with 11 K's, 4BB, 2 H, 2 R, and 2 Earned Runs which is a very nice line, he deserved a better fate for sure. Guidry on the other hand had to figure out how to stay in the game and make some really big pitches in a couple of crucial situations. Guidry goes 7 innings, 12 K's, 2 BB, 9H, 3 R, and 2 Earned runs which is equally impressive when you think about it considering the amount of traffic on the bases Silsbee had compared to BC. Yes I agree Guidry gave up more hits, but he also pitched out of some really tough spots without allowing damage either and that's what good pitchers do. All in all both guys were tremendous on the hill and neither one got a decision, go figure. :o 4. As far as "too many errors" and "not many clean games for BC" I think both Silsbee and BC have the exact same amount of errors thus far in district play if I'm not mistaken. Yes, Silsbee has played 1 more game than BC but I hope you get the point that these defenses are much closer than one would be lead to believe. IMHO this one will be another "barn burner" all the way to the end. Both teams are so equally matched and they know one another so well it's tough to pick a winner and justify the prediction. There's no doubt it'll be a playoff atmosphere at Tiger Park, I'm really looking forward to it. Both of these teams will represent the district well in the playoffs. Good luck to all! Rake1 (and yes I'm hoping for a BC win  :D)
 19.
I agree, it wasn't BP but Silsbee getting 9 hits off the Cardinal ace was more than I expected. That has to be the most hits that Guidry has given up in a game this season.
AAW, I thought Silsbee was the most hits allowed by Guidry but it was actually against HJ where he allowed 11. Silsbee did exactly what good hitters do and that's put the ball in play. If you look at the charts from the game the approach Silsbee took to the plate was evident, the better hitters took the ball the other way and the other guys who were behind on the velocity had no choice but to do the same. There were a few that were squared up, don't get me wrong, they were hit on the button no doubt, but the majority were balls hit to the right side. I think there may have actually been an infield hit or two but that's just baseball, plain and simple, we all know and understand that. Facing the Silsbee lineup is a daunting task, they swing it as good or better than anyone around in any classification. I have seen them play 6 or 8 times this season and I have yet to figure out a good way to approach them, tough task indeed. Hopefully this next game meets all the expectations because it's been circled on both teams calendars for a while now. Really looking forward to it. Rake1

Going with BC 9-2..
Are you sure your not talking more on the lines of errors..... ;)  Because the last matchup I don't remember Powell giving up many hits....Silsbee was able to take batting practice off of Guidry, just sayin.....I'm going to say Silsbee wins this at home 3-1..... 21. Great game last night, too bad BC came up on the short end. Carthage played the game a little differently than BC did as far as pitching was concerned. Carthage ran their starter through 5 1/3 and then brought in their #1 to close the game with 3-1 lead. BC scored 2 and pushed the game to extras. BC pitched 7 different guys (started Macfarland, Currie, Gros, Rodriguez, Shugart, Mcelduff, and Watts) in an effort to get some innings and all of them did well. Carthage played clean defense for the most part as did BC. Both teams pitched well and had some timely hits. In the bottom of the 9th BC had the bases loaded and the Carthage pitcher, while in the windup, stepped off the rubber with the wrong foot to stop play TWICE and it wasn't called. Obvious balk which would have ended the game, tough break for sure. As the baseball gods would have it BC doesn't score in the bottom of the 9th and Carthage leads off the 10th with a HR and eventually scores 3 more runs and gets BC out in the 10th. Playoff style atmosphere and some good baseball. Rake1
 22.
Both teams saw Livingston ace in Lantrip...... BC lost 5-0, Silsbee won 5-2.  That is a guy that throws upper 80's to 90 Silsbee did see Crain and Gunstream in the first game and then Crain and Permenter in the second.  Crain was touted as the ace of Orangefield pitching staff last season, have not seen Braxton throw this season but last time I saw him both he and Crain had pretty close to the same stuff.  Crain just came from the left side. For that matter Silsbee had 9 hits against BC ace in Guidry.  BC had only 3 hits in whole game.  One of those was a costly 3 run HR.  Silsbee ended the first matchup against BC with 11 hits to BC 3.  With both aces starting......
Sorry I forgot to add 1 thing, these 2 above are not even close according to the radar gun. For whatever that's worth and for arguments sake I guess. Rake1
 23.
Silsbee has scored 80 runs in district play so far. Best offense in district. End of debate. ;) ;D
Agreed, as stated earlier. Rake1
 24.
Both teams saw Livingston ace in Lantrip......
Okay, here we go. 1. The Livingston game has no bearing on the initial response to what Silsbee has done in district unless they have been bumped to 21-3A recently. 2. I believe I said Silsbee had not seen Smith or Gunstream, never said anything about Crain. You and I both know this year Smith has been the #1 with Gunstream next. Just look at how OF set up their pitching for next week, the 2 games they have to win. And by the way I was wrong about Gunstream not throwing against the Tigers, my bad. Upon further review Gunstream threw 3.1 innings against Silsbee allowing 2 hits and no runs so take that for what it's worth. 3. Point taken and acknowledged on seeing Duplant. 4. I won't even bring up the pre-season results on the LCM tourney where BC's #4 threw 60 pitches total in a 5 inning complete game victory. OOPS! 5. It's still hard to argue if you look at it objectively that so far through district Silsbee has benefitted from the schedule. BC has seen, in order, Clark (Buna), Powell (Silsbee), Herring(HF), A. Anderson(WOS), Edelmon(HJ), Smith(OF), and Clark(Buna).  Of course this is just an opinion and we all know what those are worth. And yes Glad, regardless of our opinion or debate you are still my buddy! No questions about that. Rake1
