1. Sorry WOS fans. I couldn't help myself. I really do hope WOS puts it on them though.
2. Listen fwstangs... Get out your pen, get out your book, write it down... 42 - 38 WOS Take that to the bank and use it as collateral, because it's as good as gold.
3. Book it.
4. I don't know Hum... I'd be extremely surprised if Diggs doesn't go for at least 150 yards rushing. They might stop him for less than 3 yards on 20 of the carries. It's those other 4 or 5 carries where he finds a crease.
5.
Coukd have said the same thing last week. LP running game will be too much.
I kinda see where Jabu is coming from though. Lee somehow has beaten LP the last two years.  Lee has been nothing special those last two years, while LP has made good runs in the playoffs.  It just seems Lee's strengths play into LP's weaknesses. Sterling has just not been very good, which is why Lee has been dominating that series.
6. This is going to hurt me to say.... LP 35 Lee 21
7. Yes, Lee is entirely a shotgun team. Hopefully Lee takes the end around option out of the playbook.  That is a recipe for disaster.  It never works.  The best you can hope for out of it is a no gain.  There were nearly 3 fumbles off of it. I think what separates a team like Lee from a really good team is the ability to execute on a consistent basis. You look at NFL teams.  Even the best offenses don't get 12 yards a pop every play.  You have to understand you will get 6 yards one play, 5 yards the next, 4 yards the next, 7 yards the next.... Lee doesn't seem capable of being happy with just making the required play to keep the chains moving.  They have the sure-handed receivers and a shifty running back to just nickel and dime it down the field if they so choose. It's just a matter of execution.
8. ;D Of course Green is going to have more yards. He's a quarterback that throws and Diggs is basically a running back. It'd be like comparing Tony Romo to Chris Johnson in the NFL. Of course Romo is going to have more total yards.  If he didn't then it would be strange. This isn't 2009, 2008 or 2007. Diggs is better this year. I'm not saying this is going to be enough to make them beat Dayton, but this isn't just a pretty good player like Dominic Merka or something we're talking about.
9. Dayton is proud of their team, as well they should be. Diggs is much better than anyone Dayton has though.  It's going to take a team effort.
10. I misread Gerry Hamilton on his site.  He mentioned that Diggs would be at 210 very early in his career in Austin. He certainly plays like he is over 200. He knocked the fire out of some Lee players and then put a devastating stiffarm on another one.  Reminded me of the one Earl laid on the poor guy from Rice back in the day. stiff arm
11. Hey LP, I am assuming that is your blogspot with the video? LP looks pretty tough. The offensive line is huge.  Is that #20 the freshman?  He is huge.  He is ripe for some fumbles though the way he is holding the ball.  Coaches need to get on him about securing the ball. About last year's game.  Lee had two touchdowns basically on 4th down and long when they just threw up a Hail Mary type pass to Richardson and he skies over #20 I believe it was, the cornerback for LP that was about 6'2" .  Those two touchdowns were the difference in the game.  That and the fact Perkins hadn't come back yet. ;D Lee has a lot more speed than the team LP played in that video.  We should be able to score some.  I'm just not sure about holding that punishing ground game in check that the Bulldogs have.
12. Diggs is over 200 pounds. I like Pearson a lot.  I went to two or three Dayton games back then specifically because of him. He is not in Diggs' league.
13. Diggs is twice the athlete that Pearson was. And I do like Dakarai Pearson, don't get me wrong.  It's just a huge difference between the two of them.
14. Lee just runs a vanilla 4-3 defense. They don't, or have not yet, do much stunting or blitzing or sophisticated scheming. LP should be able to line up and stuff it down Lee's throat for the most part. LP probably doesn't want to do a lot of blitzing and man defense.  Richardson would have a field day with one on one coverage. He single-handedly beat the Bulldogs last year on two jump balls that he leaped over the DB on and snagged the ball for td's.
15. Never a good idea to lick your job....could get you fired.
16. Nice report. Can't wait to see how Lee does against the Bulldogs next week.
17. You cannot be expected to control Diggs all game. He will break out once or twice for some long td's.  Might as well just factor that into whatever gameplan you may have. Dayton will have trouble with the short screen passes, must go over the top some against Angleton. I think it will be Angleton 28-24
18. Also, Lee will need too shelve that slot receiver in motion package.  All it does is bring a blocker away from the action allowing that DB on that side to slide down and congest the running lanes and the option play never really materializes.  It usually just effectively makes it 10 on 11, because the slot receiver is running around 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
19. Thank you Sahen. I tried to be gracious in my first post when I got home. Both teams did look better.  Sterling has a massive offensive line, at least compared to Lee. McWhirter may be the best option in the long run.  I was relieved to see him in there as a Lee fan though.  It was much harder for Lee to stop Nelson and Mixon on the zone read type plays. Miquo Willie is another DB/WR that was out for Lee.  He is a sophomore.  HE could have provided some relief somewhere out there at the skill positions.  He was standing next to Landry on the sideline with both having shoulder slings. Both teams looked better.  Sterling has a shot to make the playoffs in my opinion.  Don't ask me who they will beat other than Channelview, as PAM and LP both seemed to look really good along with the usual suspects in WB and NS. I will be rooting for Sterling though. To answer the question on the OL/DL for Sterling.  As I said, the Sterling OL was really big particularly compared to Lee. When Sterling decided to play a little smash mouth there right before the half, they were very successful.  I think Sterling will be able to move the ball against a lot of the teams they play.  Nelson and Mixon are just two tough little guys to contain, unless you have a lot of penetration.  If the line can give them a little crease, they just jitterbug around and make it very difficult on your back 7 of your defense to corral them.  Just when you have them figured out, Nelson drops back, closes his eyes and throws as far as he can to Jamar Gibson, who just leaps above everyone and snags on.  Dude is about 6'2" 205 probably as a sophomore.  He made all-district second team last year as a freshman. Back to Lee... They play a junior, sophomore, sophomore and senior on the DL They have a senior, senior and sophomore at LB They have a sophomore, sophomore, junior and senior at DB. They start about 9 more juniors and sophomores on offense. They had two sophomores and a junior out hurt that will all get time once they get healthy. They are really a young team.  Most of their talented players are juniors and sophomores. So, pardon me if I am excited about the way they played last night, particularly with three of those said juniors and sophomores watching from the sidelines.  Having said that, I suspect that LaPorte will be able to run the ball pretty well against Lee next week.  They don't have the athletes that Sterling does though. It should be a really good barometer.
20. While I agree that McWhirter is gritty and one might think he is better..... This is high school football.  You are sometimes just better off to have a guy like Nelson taking the snaps. McWhirter made some nice plays, but he also made some very bad plays that cost Sterling dearly. For that same reason is why Zellars should be playing qb for Lee. Unless you have a guy that just has pinpoint accuracy and is calm, cool and collected in pocket....in high school you are better off just sticking an athlete in there and hoping for the best. Things break down too many times and you need someone who can make something happen. Teams like Sterling and Angleton understand that... Lee does not...yet.
21. Speedy was a non-factor because they don't throw him the ball. They will throw it out there once or twice a quarter on a fade route on 3rd and long  ??? The coach still doesn't understand the uniquely talented player he has in Speedy. He requires double teams at all times, but the coach does not understand how to capitalize on that.  He just lofts up fade routes and then throws little 6 yard button hooks to him, never anything else. Even with two of Lee's top three players on the sideline watching, Lee had the game won if not for that silly offsides penalty.
22. Not sure what people were expecting. Elkins is a 5A team.  They are an above average 5A team. An above average 5A team is always going to give 4A teams trouble. Dayton did well to play Elkins so tough. Should be a sign that Dayton has a good team this year.
23. Finally made it home. Lee did not deserve to win this game. Too many mistakes. To be fair, Lee will not see another team this year with a better trio of athletes the caliber of Mixon, Nelson and Gibson for Sterling. Gibson is only a sophomore, but he will be a top 50 player in the state. Mixon and Nelson are so darn shifty.  Nelson is like a cat, he always lands on his feet. I'm not saying Sterling is a great team, but those three guys present problems. Lee was without Darrion Landry, who is out for a while with a broke wrist from what I have been told. Josh Zellars got hurt early in the game and did not return. That is two of Lee's top three receivers that had no part in this game. I am pleased with how Lee looks.  The Ganders could have won the game if not for a few mental lapses. They got a turnover right before Sterling's tying score, but they were called offsides on the play. They returned the blocked kick in the first half all the way into Sterling's territory, but it was called all the way back inside the 5 for a crackback clock. Of course, Sterling had their share of mistakes as well. Once Lee gets Zellars and Landry healthy, the Ganders will be an awfully tough test for most 4A teams.
