Goose Creek Memorial (79) @ Baytown Lee (30) - FINAL
gary-us-bonds replied to jdawg03's topic in High School Football
Don't know that it would have mattered other than maybe some kids transferred after they knew he was leaving? He would probably have them a little sharper, sure. Don't know how much better they would be overall. -

Imagine if they had the running backs from. Crosby and barbers hill that both should be there along with the defensive tackle that's at ce king. They would be bordering on competitive in that district overall for a playoff spot I bet. There are probably other lower profile players that I am not even aware of that transferred out. GCM has the athletes to compete if they all stay where they should be. -

Long year ahead for Lee. They don't have quite the same selection of athletes they have had the last 7 or 8 years. They aren't as crisp and swarmy on defense as they have been. It's a one man show for them. #2 played like Superman to get them within 50. -
Baytown Sterling (20) @ Goose Creek Memorial (42) FINAL

Really wish GCM could find a way to keep all their talent. I know they added the running back from LP, but they should have the BH running back, the big DT for CE King that played varsity as a freshman last year and now I see their talented freshman RB is playing for Crosby instead. I'm pretty sure the DT from Lee last year that played varsity as a freshman who is now at LP should technically have been at GCM too. -
South Oak Cliff (41) @ Galena Park North Shore (31) FINAL

When is the last time that any Houston area school in a one high school town has fone anything? I'm trying to think back. Most of the Dallas success comes from Duncanville, DeSoto, Allen. One high school towns. North Crowley has joined in the fun. They are a two school district like North Shore If the demographics look good, a two school district works ok too. Where you get into trouble is at places like Marvel. They sustain some success, then when they hit 2500 students another school is built. A combined 5,000 student Manvel, Iowa Colony and Shadow Creek would have probably been kicking butt and taking names the last decade. Richmond Randle hits just right for a quick state title or two, now they have another school built already pulling kids away. The areas with demographics ripe for success end up with 10-12 high schools. A new one being built and breaking apart any momentum another team was building It went from George Ranch to Foster to Randle to Fulshear. Soon to be Tomas high school out there. Never going to happen here in this area Too many schools get built. -

I stand corrected. Too much transferring going on to keep up. I was gleaning what I could from the Hudl highlights. I thought the other baseball player was the QB last year but I guess that was year before last. This kid looks good whatever the case. -

He played middle school and two years of high school at Barbers Hill. I don't know the whole story, but he's been playing over there for a while near as I can tell. -

Alright. I just noticed he had played somewhere else previously. -

Going to be a long year for the Ganders. Whoever this QB is that Crosby recruited in is going to be one of the top QBs in the Houston area if not the state. -

Bright is a good back. Surprised he left for gcm. -

Big defensive tackle that was on varsity as a freshman last year. -

Looking at the rosters, I see both LaPorte and Sterling have made some positive gains in their recruiting of the Lee players this off season. I wonder if that all occurred before or after Finn left. -
What Finn did at Lee was top shelf stuff relative to what he had to work with. Not just anyone is going to be able to come in and keep things afloat like he did. I'm expecting the worst.

Mont believe is a suburb of Baytown so I welcome their success. Much like Houston claims North Shore. I will claim the Baytown suburbs as Baytown success. -

I jinxed him. He's another one that got away from Baytown for his high school years. -

Any body watching Baytown's own PJ Haggerty playing for Memphis in the tournament today? -
Not sure. There is some footage of LP from 1979 against Clear Creek on YouTube though. Maybe it will ring a bell for you? I just checked and you're right, there were three in the backfield but I'm not sure who that third one was.
-
Memory is playing tricks on you. Whitmore was the offensive tackle. He went to UT. Byars, walker and hill were in the backfield.
-
28 to 14 at the half. Bubba Hill was the other running back. Goslin is what Baytown junior and Horace Mann junior mascots were. Red goslins and green goslins. A gosling is a young goose. A Gander is a male goose, hence the phrase what's good for the goose is good for the gander Horace Mann is now the gators and Baytown junior is just goslins.
-
Slow down now. We claim Lee in Pelly. OBT can share it I guess.
-
Any way that Lee can grab that Sterling quarterback since the coach left. Should be a caveat in the transfer rule for Coach leaving.
-
GCM has the demographics to have a chance to compete and win playoff games. Just can't do it with their best talent playing for CE King and Barbers Hill. Lee doesn't really have the mix of athletes to compete at a high level any more.

Maybe. In mid 90s, BH had 1850 students total. Now, they have 7,300. Maybe they all came from Deer Park, but they certainly come from somewhere.
