  1. I love all the chitter chatter, back & forth but come tomorrow night the Panthers take the stage and show who the main event will be on Friday nights in 22-5a this year. I told those boys that they are expected to loose by many and that Lumberton plans to beat them down. If they were thinking about taking this game for granted Panther fans have been keeping them focused and hungry for a win. I say Panthers will be too explosive to be contained for 4qtrs. and Lumberton will not have the fire power too keep up

Lumberton has been the underdog in every game so far. They will play a physical, disciplined game. May the better team win and both teams come out without injuries.

  2. BC just got beat.... period.  Dubois' gameplan to throw the ball early wasn't a bad idea, it just wasn't successful.  Lumberton WAS vulnerable to the passing attack, but we just didn't capitalize.  Lumberton's lines (D&O) simply pushed our lines around.  BC turned the ball over on downs several times.  There was a BC turnover right at the goal line, but then Lumberton went three and out... our punt returner #8 returned the ball back to about the five, and we eventually scored a touchdown.  It was a turnover, but not costly.  Lumberton held us on two consecutive go-ahead drives in the fourth, and then forced a BC fumble on the final series.  Lumberton did what they needed to do and EARNED that victory.  BC didn't shoot themselves in the foot.  They showed up for the gunfight without a pistol.

My opinion is that BC got ahead of themselves and greatly underestimated what turned out to be a Lumberton team that had two weeks to prepare for us, and they were ready.  Not wanting to make excuses, but BC just wasn't ready to play.  This game was picked as the "game of the week" by both local TV affiliates, and it wasn't because of Lumberton's 1 pt win over Hamshire-Fannett.  The whole thing took on an atmosphere of "we can't be beat" instead of "I believe we can win." There was a 5:15 am Pep Rally on Friday morning.  That's right.... up at four-thirty on gameday to be at the school for a pep rally and interviews.  There was another pep rally that afternoon which featured a hot-dog eating contest for some of the O-line.

Coach Dubois tried to get his players out of the 5AM pep rally, but no dice.   I believe that the kids got a (much needed) wake-up call in an otherwise meaningless game, and luckily nobody got hurt.  Dubois will make the necessary adjustments and we'll be back in business shortly.

Pretty much spot on. BC should have a great year this year. This year's team and last year's team are completely different based on their games with Lumberton. They are a very disciplined, scrappy bunch. Good luck to the Cards this year. They will make some noise in district. Both cities are lucky to get a couple good coaches this year that also happen to be hometown boys.

  3. Don't get me wrong.  I'd love to not ever lose our starting RB, but Lumberton can replace skill positions easier than we can replace OL or DL positions.  God forbid we lose a couple of big boys.  We would really be in a bad spot.

This is very true. There are quite a few kids that can play running back. They may not be quite as good as Tim, but they can hold there own. We need all of the big ones we have tho.

  4. Vpirate02, did you ever confirm what you heard that caused you to shift your score prediction by 30 pts?  Originally, you predicted Lumberton would win by 20.  Then you heard some earth shattering news that caused you to then predict HF would win by 10.  I'm curious how that news panned out.  You've kept us on the edge of our seats for 3 weeks now.  Don't you think that is long enough?:)

    Still crickets lol

  5. Must have been.  3 receivers wide, QB in shotgun with one back in the backfield with him.  That is what I saw the entire game.  In fact, what contributed to a number of the HJ turnovers were the fumbles on the shotgun snap.  A completely different offensive set from the one HJ employed the last couple of seasons.

Had a few friends say I'm dumb, so I have to admit to paying a little, or a lot, of attention to the Lumberton side of the ball. HJ did indeed run the spread. Maybe the injury to the young man short circuited my brain a little. Any injury to a high school student is definitely a time for reflection. Here's to a great season for both teams and a speedy and full recovery to the injured young man. On the fighting topic, maybe coach can teach the kids to quit attacking the other team's hands with their face masks. ;-)

  6. Guys we know Lumberton does no wrong! Lol

I guess the pic didn't pull up for you. Btw, the mask came loose from the helmet and broke. The kid had to get another helmet to finish the scrimmage. It's no big deal but don't try and make it look like something it isn't by making broad assumptions.

  7. I really wouldn't call that a fight last night, but I may have been in Jasper from what Mr Silsbee is saying. I know the tussle in the previous scrimmage was started by someone that got tired of getting pancaked and ripped someone's helmet off in retaliation. I'm sure I will be now informed that the Silsbee player's hand was attacked with the Lumberton player's facemask tho. Pic courtesy of the Lumberton Ledger.
