Tarkington in a lower level bracket goes 0-2.  7-8 on the year?

I don't know how much you actually know about this year's participants. But so far every team that Tarkington has played at KSA has been pretty good with quite a bit of size. Now tomorrow's teams don't appear to be near as tough. It appears they played the 3 best teams all today.

Agreed their record doesn't look great but they have had some flashes of great play and the team has a lot of potential, just got to put it all together. Don't forget they start a freshman, a sophmore, 3 juniors and one senior. Not making excuses for them, if they want any hope of advancing in the playoffs they are going to have to gel and become more consistent VERY soon!

Going to take a minor miracle for Tarkington to stay down. I suspect the Horns will be leaving us 3a folks in the next realignment.

My hope is, that theoretically, not EVERYONE can move up. It's not like many schools in our area are decreasing in size. Therefore to keep things even from a numbers perspective, the powers that be are going to have to move the cut off lines high enough to keep these districts where they belong.

If you would’ve said pick the teams to play in the championship game … one definitely would’ve been Huffman… and one definitely wouldn’t have been Buna lol

They are definitely a scrappy bunch.

Tarkington beat them 25-14 and then dropped two sets in a row.

PNG beat them first set then dropped two straight also.

You're not serious are you?  Hardin and Tarkington never have a shot in this district to make playoffs, unless something changes with both communities, median income average, population increase, business or industrial uptick, oil and gas (pipeline) expansion(s) and half the town packs their bags and new blood comes in.  Now, if all those things happen, you can look for both of the programs to be on the rise.

I am serious. Their incoming Junior group is one of the more athletic groups to come through in a while. All of the difference makers saw considerable playing time as sophmores on varsity last year. The RB is a tough senior kid with some wheels! I know Taylor left but Belt provided stability in the transition. Do you have any actual knowledge of the program or the kids currently there? Just wondering how much of your opinion you can actually back up or if you're just throwing the yearly Tarkington sucks smoke out there.

They will be the most athletic looking team you've every seen and will have two or three D1 commits, but they will be poorly coached, poorly disciplined and have poor character on the field. Jasper will beat them but not because they out talent them.

Are you talking about Legacy the School of Sports Sciences? It says their coach is Michael Bishop, is that the same Willis/KState Michael Bishop????

  8. I'm interested to see how Tarkington looks going into Coach Kennedy's second year. His middle has put in a ton of work and I fully expect her to take District MVP honors. They return quite a few impact kids from last year and add a few from the lower ranks. I know one thing, these kids around here love Coach and I think he's got this program finally pointed back in the right direction.

Hardin has "had a few girls playing club" for the last 10 + years but yes, that "GROUP" graduated and only two of the girls on varsity play club for xcel.  Well, one isn't quite on varsity, but by the time school starts, she will be in my opinion.  She's the best DS they have as a freshman and far more athletic/potential than anybody they have on the roster.

100% agree. I had to edit as I completely read the school wrong…

Not this coming season.  Hardin will struggle to finish in the top 3/4 in district but they'll rebound quickly after this year.

They have a strong Freshman group. They will likely improve as the season goes on and be back near the top by next year.

District 10 has 7 teams with a total of 154 starting positions. I wonder how many of the 154 positions were occupied by freshman? Maybe someone can pull the numbers.

Tarkington had 0 Freshman starters last year - Only a handful of freshman ever dressed out throughout the season and none of them had any meaningful minutes.....

Onalaska returns to the playoffs for the first time in a long time. Coldspring returns to their playoff glory and goes three deep this year.

I could see Onalaska making the playoffs with New Waverly likely falling hard. But Tarkington and Crockett will battle it out for first place in the district. Coldspring will have a tough time going three rounds deep from the 3rd or 4th spot as that might match them up against a strong Hitchcock team. All that being said, I've never seen a team fall so hard as they did the second half of the season last year. Not sure, anything has changed since last years team to push them back into District title conversation.

Quite possible. I hope they get to stay in 3AD1 given all of the turnover lately. Would be a tall order for the new regime to have to deal with 4AD2 out of the gate in current circumstances.

The only positive regarding the recent turnover is the kids got a face that's been in house for a few years now and I don't think he's going anywhere. That will help provide stability for the kids. Might see some familiar faces pop back up in the coordinator positions as well. In reality, it will always be tough for us to compete in football no matter what class or district we are in. Basketball and baseball will stay competitive for next few years either way.
