You're right... the Wildcats got us. I do know we will play Meaningful football in November like usual. You guys on the other hand will get ready for another rough basketball season. When do the Bucs & Horns match up since you watch so much game film?

    10/20 at Tarkington

hmm rough basketball...in Tarkington? 2 rounds deep how many years in row now? Thanks for the insight, why is EC dropping random comments in a post about OF vs Tarkington? Thanks for stopping in and giving such meaningful conversation to the thread....

I expect Kville to pull this one out. But could be low scoring if Tarkington will use 44 and control the clock. Watch for both teams to use the onside kick in this one. Kville trying to close the door early and Tarkington to try and control the momentum.

For Tarkington, they got to figure out a way to not give up the big plays (i.e. better tackling and better pass coverage) and win the turnover battle. If they can do that, I think they can stay close enough to keep this one interesting. With their offense, falling behind, especially by more than one score, is almost unrecoverable.

This is very very very biased, and mostly false. Officiating didn't lose that game. OF was flagged over double the amount Tarkington was also. Most of these claims are baseless.

Apparently reading isn't a strong point of emphasis at LSU. I didn't say officiating lost the game. I actually said we were in it UNTIL we shot ourselves in the foot multiple times coming out of halftime. Then I merely commented on how bad the officiating was. So you're telling me that the OF corner didn't completely wrap up and drag the WR in the end zone or just outside of the end zone down before the ball reached him? Got great footage of it if you need it. You're telling me that on a drive where Tarkington was pushing the ball down the field that they didn't call a false start on Tarkington when nobody blew the whistle and the OF kid after the play was over and 5 yds were gained didn't absolutely blindside a kid after multiple whistles and the flag was thrown then they waived off the whole play so a +20 play turned into a -5 didn't happen???? Got plenty of game film if you need to see it, including where your coach pulled him off the field screaming at him because he thought he just got flagged. Just shoot me an email address, be glad to send it to you. Again, not the reason Tarkington lost, as I said "we have issues", turnovers and bad tackling at times are definitely at the top of that list.

Edited version: I'll add to all that by saying that OF has a heck of a football team and my original response had nothing to do with them.. They have a couple of great athletes that made some great plays. I see them winning this district. I was only pointing out that Tarkington was doing their part for a half to give OF all they wanted and that, I just wished we could have stayed competitive throughout. I don't think the score was entirely indicative of how the Horns played.

You lost 43-17.... you got manhandled. It will probably happen 3 or 4 more times this year like usual. Just get used to it.

Good call! Guy who hasn’t seen a bit of game film. I guess you would know what it looks like since Kirbyville apparently manhandled you a few weeks ago…

I’m guessing your team hasn’t seen the last of it either so I guess we’re in the same boat.

This is exactly how I saw this playing out, Tarkington hanging tough for about a quarter then things getting rough for the horns.

Really wasn’t what Orangefield did to make it rough. More about how the Horns shot them selves in the foot multiple times. Fumbled kickoff turns into a touchdown. Pick 6 thrown right to a kid within about 6 mins of each other. Hard to keep pace with anybody with those kind of mistakes.

On top of that we have got some of the worst officials I’ve ever seen this season. Last week inadvertent whistle causes a td to come back and turns into points for Hardin. This week, orangefield constantly playing after the whistle, one play particular, apparently a false start was called, no whistle blown though, then orangefield kid has such an egregious late hit that his coach pulls him and screams at him. The officials decide not to call it because the Horns had a false start so play was dead, yet no whistle until after the player is tackled…. No call PI in the end zone while receiver is getting wrapped up before his arms can even try to catch the ball.

Not that we didn’t have our issues. We probably lose either way but y’all make it sound like we got manhandled and that was not the case.

I would certainly argue that Tarkington is better than Huffman and Hardin historically. When Johnson was at Tarkington no one in SE Texas had a winning record against them that I can remember.  Huffman had become their equal in the last few years of that time frame.  Hardin was a tough match but rarely won more than a game here and there which is no slight seeing they are a class lower.  I do not remember Snell ever beating Johnson.
Perhaps that has been long enough ago now that Tarkington has lost all volleyball luster, which is a shame.

I would agree, historically Tarkington has been the better program. However, there was not only a lull in overall talent but also a coaching presence for multiple years in Tarkington. They literally had a person coach an entire season that had never coached a vollebyall game in her life one year thanks to Coach J leaving in August! Then hired a total fail as a coach for two additional years. Last year was Kennedy's first year and they at least returned to the playoffs. This year has been very up and down, but I can say that this group has a chance to win district or at least finish second and will move a round or two deep into the playoffs. They already beat Hardin this year as well. Also most of the varsity players will be returning and are already in club programs for the spring. Future is bright for the Horns!

Agreed, why do some teams keep going back year after year if there is no competition?

There may be a multitude of reasons that teams are playing in a particular tournament. For one, heard today that this tournament is completely free to the fans and teams. That’s probably attractive along with nice facilities and an actual up and down ref for every game. Especially if your school isn't backed by refineries or higher tax brackets. If you could, send us a list of your preferred tournaments so we can pass along to all these coaches. I can’t imagine why more teams aren’t going.

Tarkington in a lower level bracket goes 0-2.  7-8 on the year?

I don't know how much you actually know about this year's participants. But so far every team that Tarkington has played at KSA has been pretty good with quite a bit of size. Now tomorrow's teams don't appear to be near as tough. It appears they played the 3 best teams all today.

Agreed their record doesn't look great but they have had some flashes of great play and the team has a lot of potential, just got to put it all together. Don't forget they start a freshman, a sophmore, 3 juniors and one senior. Not making excuses for them, if they want any hope of advancing in the playoffs they are going to have to gel and become more consistent VERY soon!

Going to take a minor miracle for Tarkington to stay down. I suspect the Horns will be leaving us 3a folks in the next realignment.

My hope is, that theoretically, not EVERYONE can move up. It's not like many schools in our area are decreasing in size. Therefore to keep things even from a numbers perspective, the powers that be are going to have to move the cut off lines high enough to keep these districts where they belong.

If you would’ve said pick the teams to play in the championship game … one definitely would’ve been Huffman… and one definitely wouldn’t have been Buna lol

They are definitely a scrappy bunch.

Tarkington beat them 25-14 and then dropped two sets in a row.

PNG beat them first set then dropped two straight also.
