There is one player on the HJ Varsity that has not played every year since his freshman year at HJ

That's not what was asked. Are they from Sour Lake? The answer is no, and there is more then just one player. HJ survives off of transfers from Beaumont period, always has. East Chambers has as well. Hampshire-Fannett wasn't an open enrollment school until a few years ago and only had kids from their area. Last year was the first time new kids coming into the district benefited the basketball team with really one kid. The other player lived a few miles down the from the school but was going to BU, both were sophomores. There's literally only one kid on their varsity team that is from Beaumont and he sat on JV last year. The rest are from Hampshire, Fannett, and Cheek. HJ has multple players that still live in Beaumont. Doesn't matter when they got there, they are from Beaumont not Sour Lake and most got there 9th and 10th grade.

    Exactly. @Cardinal 1

I was at the game. Legs had nothing to do with it. They got out coached period. Nederland has two solid players and the rest are just discipline in their roles. HJ by far was the superior team talent wise and got smoked like a pack Cools. Davis made zero adjustments and just stayed in the press that was getting broken. Then ran zero plays on the offensive end for his two best players. Nederland ran plays and ate up clock.

Huffman is better than Hj, also Huffman has the better overall player and coach. Huffman has looked good this year

I wouldn't go as far as saying Huffman is better as far players, but I do think they have a better coach. After seeing HJ play Nederland, I really dont see them beating any team that is well coached and able to break their press. HJ is by no means a half court team.

Hawks play Lumberton on the 30th of December. Then play HF twice in district I got HJ going 3-0 in those games. They will figure it out; if I had to guess they are a program that will peak at the right times this year. A lot of talent in the team; they have to figure out rotations and minutes which takes time.

Lol HJ not beating HF and will have a lot of trouble with HH. Their press is their offense and if it gets broken then they have no chance of winning against a well coached team. Nederland beat them because they beat their press and played solid half court defense. They literally beat HJ with two offensive players and no real point guard. HJ is very talented, the players aren't the issue. But the depth that Coach Davis normally is privilege to didn't transfer to HJ from Beaumont and Cheek, they went to HF. Let's not act like we don't know that lol. HF is stacked with underclassmen hoopers, mostly freshman and sophomores

One could argue (correctly) that he got bounced from the playoffs (with his best team to date) by an inferior team with a coach some on here truly love to hate.  He does a nice job.  I would tap the brakes on superlatives above that.

He got out coached period. Huffman had the better team by far last year and got exposed as a one trick pony. HF is much better this year and are deeper. It won't even be close this go round and the HJ game will be the same.

Huffman has one of the best coaches in the area. He consistently produces good teams every year!

Huffman was the best team in a trash basketball district. Not taking away from the coach's accomplishments, but they don't play anyone even in pre-district games. Their record is always padded. This year they have yet to play anyone tough at all. HJ and HF both are playing top 5A and 6A schools who are traditional basketball powerhouses. Huffman not playing anyone on that level at all. When district comes around they will get smashed by HJ and HF period simply due to not playing tough games. HF has Memorial, Nederland, and Stafford as their measuring sticks. HJ has the same level of competition. Huffman's toughest game so far was New Caney that they won on by 1 point. I didn't even know New Caney had a legit program.

    That's not what you stated.

You said any team that has one player score 50% of it's points is not a good team. You didn't give any caveat to who the player could or would be. Silsbee had a player score 50% of it's points on a regular basis. So therefore by your standard, they were not a good team.

No Silsbee by no means was a good team last year. They just had a D1 player and some athletes to play defense.

I guess everyone has an opinion about players and coaches . If what you say is true HJ has nearly everyone back from last year. One of their best players missed the game at HF  so they should have him this year. Do you think HF made great strides in improving or do you think HJ regressed? I think Coach Davis is as good as there is in the area making in game adjustments. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

HF has everyone from last year back and when they beat HJ last year their best player wasn't even on varsity due to UIL rules.  HJ was still better then HF last year without RJ due to experience. That experience is bull and void this year as HF now has that same experience. HJ has the size on the inside which is their advantage, HF advantage is at the guard positions. They just simply have more that can play both ways. It will be a game of who can make the other team play their game. I think they will split personally

“HF will beat HJ. Both teams are equally matched athletically (HF actually may have a slit edge) and will come down to coaching. Rideaux is a far better coach then Davis. HJ sits in the same defense and press the whole game.

“Huffman a 1 trick pony. No wonder they fought to get Ardoin off HF varsity this year. It will keep them from losing by 40. When one kid scores over 50% of your team's points, your not that good. HF and HJ can score from several positions. HF having about 5-6 guys that can go for 10 or more points a game.

Then you are saying HF goes undefeated in district play?

I think they will split with HJ, but Huffman has no chance against either team. Too easy to shut down their offense with the crop of players HJ and HF has. Harvey is good no doubt, but he hasn't played anything near HF or HJ this year.

I would like to see the head to head matchups by position. It’s hard for me to believe HF wins that match up. I also think HJ has some kids that just know how to play the game. As far as the coaching comparison I’d have to say that’s strictly a matter of opinion. Coach Rideaux has a pretty short resume as a head coach.

HJ has better size down low with a 3 good SF. HF has a better stable of guards. HJ has one PG and two solid guards. HF has 2 PGs who can score, 3 SGs, and two solid forwards. The bench as far as guards who can contribute on and off the ball is where HF has the advantage. HJ has the half court size advantage. The game will be a chess match, that's why I say it will come down to coaching. The thing is Rideaux out coached Davis in the last meeting last year who had the far better team. He doesn't have that advantage this year. They're about equal
