To go from unranked to top 10 before district is going to take beating some big names.  Who does HF play that could propel them up the list?  I know you guys played Coach Brian English and the Runnin' Bulldogs early last year and didn't quite pull off the upset.  I like the Longhorns this year, but I don't think they're better than Nederland or a top 10 4A team.  That one muscled up kid that can play inside and out is nice though.

They play 2-3 Tournaments this year which will include a lot of playoff teams from last year and the muscled up kid is just one of 4 that can hoop. If you're referring to the forward from last year that averaged a double double, yes he's very nice, but will not be their best player and leading scorer this year. That's what's scary and will catch folks off guard. Their best player was ruled ineligible last in an attempt to get him to move out the district, but he stayed.

That last sentence is obvious click bait.

If you don't think having all returning core starters from the past two years and backups, plus adding a 6'4" top 40 player that can play and guard the 1-5, wouldn't place them in the top ten by end of December then you don't know basketball my friend 🤣.  They will literally be able to score at all 5 positions, plus a player that can't be guarded unless you double team him which leaves you playing 4 on 3 versus three 1st team all district players one being all region. Trust me, they will be top 10 by end of December.

  3. Polls will change by December definitely. A few teams in the 4A list are ranked based off last years team performance and the good ole boy system. Silsbee is where they should be. They will lose to teams they supposed to in higher divisions who have more experience, but will take care of all the rest with little problem. Their district will be tougher then many think, but I think they will be fine. The only team that I think can beat them in their district is WOS, but not twice. They would split the games. Also HF will be ranked top 10 before start of district.

HJ finished as co-champions last year and lost a seeding game by one point to the eventual state runner up. The loss to BC should not have happened even with their best player suspended. They got caught looking past the Cardinals. Just for grins tell me who finished 3rd in that district race last year going 0-4 against the top two teams and then got beat like a rented mule by a young Silsbee Tiger team ?

The team that suffered injuries in the middle of district and that beat Silsbee, HJ, and Huffman the previous year in a row with that same team, but healthy. As far as last years first round lost to Silsbee. Didn't that same Silsbee team come within minutes of making it to state? 🤔  Make no mistake a healthy HF team wouldn't have lost to HJ or Huffman twice. HJ barley made it out of that home game against HF which had just gotten back their best player after being out a month with an ankle injury. And of course had certain coaches not been scared to play a  certified bucket and not gotten him ruled ineligible, despite him being a former HFISD student who was simply returning to finish high school, those injures wouldn't have effected them as much as they did. Well he's eligible this year plus the previous 4 two year starters and the backups. They now can score and defend from all 5 positions in their starting lineup, plus the next 3-4 players off the bench. Their starting 5 will possibly be 6'1, 6'2, 6'3, 6'3, and 6'4 with all of them being able to score in 4A basketball.  Good luck with your assessment of how that district will turn out 🤣🤣

In those 3 years how many district championships has HF won ? I think Huffman graduated one player albeit a good one. HJ has a ton of returning talent and will be the deepest team in the district. Huffman and HJ have had a bonafide basketball coach for years. We probably just need to agree to disagree.

HJ has always been 2nd place in a two team race every year under their current head coach and then gets bounced in the 2nd round. They lost to BC blowing a 20pt lead last year and that team was better. Stop it 🤣. They will finish 3rd this year and that's ok considering the other two teams.

You put way to much value on summer league games. I’ll take a team full of role players any day of the week. Teams that are used to winning get that mentality. HJ and Huffman have been the cream of the crop in this district for years and they won’t relinquish that title easily. I’m ready to see them tip it off.

Lol talent determines that not mentality 🤣. Huffman was literally the only traditional basketball school in this district before they added HJ. HF is in year 3 of building a basketball program and hired another bonafide basketball coach. They will be tough to beat because of dept, talent, and experience none of which Huffman or HJ have this year. Of course they will be playoff programs simply because there is only 3 basketball teams that are going to be competing for the district barring injuries from either team.

We don’t have long to wait and find out. I keep hearing every year HF will win district and their best player was on the JV and they consistently finish 3rd. I watched the Longhorns on quite a few occasions last year both the varsity and JV and they aren’t going to be bad. I don’t see them winning the district. Huffman will miss Harvey’s unselfish play but they have lots of pieces returning. HJ returns Sears, White, Brown , Davis and a couple of kids who are pretty solid on the block. Throw in a few kids who went 22-1 on a JV club and you get a solid club. I can’t wait for the season to start.

Sears is the only valid threat on that team offensivey. Brown is a solid PG but not anything comparable to the PG from last year who was the real leader of that team. Unless he drastically fixed his game over the past month or so from the last time I saw him play this summer, then he will be ineffective in competitive games. Davis Jr can't guard his lunch in Sunday school, but he can shoot at a high clip if left open. All others are just solid role players. They will be a good team, but not district champs. They will be 3rd behind HF and Huffman. HF will win it barring injuries.

Both of those players played in the 25 point playoff loss to Silsbee.

    Just saying

Denson played 9 mins of that whole game because of foul trouble and score 10pts and the other kid didn't play, was still recovering from a knee injury. HF bigs got into foul trouble early, both had 2 fouls each in the first quarter. Just bad luck honestly. The entire offense was on Dorsey who dropped 22pts, no one else really stepped up to take up the slack of Denson being on the bench. Will be a different team this year with more fire power adding a few pieces and guys being healthy.

  9. HJ doesn't have the talent this year. They will be a solid team and have a winning record but no way they are a regional team unless they snuck someone in. They have Sears, that's it as far as elite talent. The other guys are good solid players who will play well around Sears. But they currently don't have the offensive fire power of pass teams at all.  As far them versus Silsbee, that game will not be as competitive as you think my friend lol. I don't know what Huffman has besides Solieu, but unless they have another Jacob Harvey type player they will be in the same position HJ is in. A solid team, but not enough fire power. HF, Silsbee, and WOS are the only 4A teams that return the majority of their stud players. Each team has at least three 15pt plus a game scorers on them. For 4A that's hard to defend. Remember HF only loses were close games to Nederland and Magnolia before they got hit with injuries. They went on a 5 game losing streak after Denson and the freshmen shooter went down.  Denson was averaging 17pts 11rebs and the shooter was averaging 11pts. They won't have that problem this year.  WOS will be the surprise team this year and shake things up in 4A

Everyone keeps overlooking HJ and Huffman.

I don't think anyone overlooking them, they just not going to be title contenders or deep playoff teams. They will finish in the top 3 of their district like always but that's not saying much considering the district race will be solely between 3 teams. Drop HJ or Huffman in the district with Silsbee, Lumberton, WOS, LCM, and BC then the talk is totally different then from years before. Neither team is a sure win over any of the top 4A teams in the area, competitive of course, but not one sure win like past years.

Hahaha Silsbee has some pretty tall kids this year. Young but very good players. So I" really don't get where some are saying Silsbee is going to be small lmao..! Silsbee will be right back in the mix where they left off last year playing for another one of these🏆to add to these🏆🏆. So bring on what you got.! 😁🐅🏀#TigerNation

WOS has a 6'5" guard and a 6'6" SF, both can hoop. If they force Silsbee to play half court, size and position matter. You can't just stick a 6'5" post player on a guard the same size. He will be much quicker and have a skill set that he's not use to guarding on a regular basis. If you switch a quicker quard on him, then the smart thing to do would be for him to take the smaller defender to the post and mid range which would force a double team leaving someone open. Silsbee will have to run and gun vs WOS keeping the tempo and not letting them set up a half court offense. Run and gun is Silsbee basketball, not half court

Great question!  WOS did look sharp and played good.  I don't think the fight was their fault.  I also think you can have a disciplined coached up squad and still land in a tussle or three a la 2021 HJ.

WOS will have the opportunity to win that district and beat Silsbee if they force the Tigers to play halfcourt. If they run with them, Silsbee will be tough for them to stop.

I gotta ask if WOS looked sharp and disciplined how in the world does their next game end early in a rumble. Also HF loses to Nederland and Memorial and are tabbed as your district favorites? I don’t see anyone challenging Silsbee in that district and the other district will have a shared title.

WOS were playing a group of grown thugs that shouldn't have been there period. Police had to escort WOS players and parents to their cars. As for HF they lost to Nederland in OT without their two leading scorers from last year but were lead by Ardoin who scored half the team points. He went out with leg cramps in the Memorial game, but the Titans were keyed in on him forcing him to make tough shots. Depth is what lost HF both games. Hard to win without your starting PG and SF. Ardoin had to be the primary ball handler in both games. They will be very tough to beat in that district at full force.

@Cardinal 1 I feel my Mustangs will have a good team hopefully building off last year. Curious to see what our new coach is going to do with these boys.  As far as LCM I thought last year was the most talent I've seen there in a long while and they missed the playoffs again.  I know injuries hurt them but Doucette is not an easy piece to replace.  Don't know much about HJ but it seems like there always winning 20 or more games.  I really feel with Warlow 6'3 Guard, Pappillion 6'7 Big that looked dominate in summer league, Darren Anderson and the twins we're going to be salty.  Also our JV was solid last year and it started 4 freshman cooper, robinson, holifield and Brown.  I like my Stangs to make some noise because most of these boys are in the gym right now.

Also our Coach Castillo has a ring and with that experience that may put these boys over the top

WOS were talented last year but very undiscipline. They took a lot of bad shots and made way too many turnovers. If they can get more under control and play basketball instead of just hooping, I believe they can make some noise. Can they beat Lumberton, Silsbee, LCM, and Bridge City is the question as they are all in their district. From what I saw, if they can play more team basketball they have a shot at 2nd at least in district.

I’m kinda new at this basketball stuff so I may be wrong. I missed badly on LCM last year but I think that had a lot to do with injury. I’ll be doing a lot of traveling this year to watch different clubs or I may even do a little officiating again. I learned a long time ago not to put to much emphasis on summer league basketball. I think Huffman is going to miss Harvey worse than HJ will miss Baxter. Wirth was a great little PG but I think he was playing on a bad knee almost all the way through district. I like HJ’s chances returning 4 starters and getting some depth from a JV that lost 1 game all season and went undefeated in district.

LCM has a bonafide stud in Ben. I see him putting close to 20pts a game for them this year.  That kid can play period! Any team losing a player like Harvey will miss them hands down, but Baxter was that important to HJ success last year. He was their floor general and when he struggled, the whole team did. Being calm and cool under pressure is an instinct and talent that can't be coached at all. He had that! Brown isn't chop liver, don't get me wrong, but he tends to fold under pressure and he's their best option at PG. Davis Jr better not touch ball other then to shoot an open corner 3. Sears is a pure slasher and scorer, but lacks play making ability. He's not a PG at all but a walking bucket getter. Best PG in the district is at HF in Dorsey. He has been behind only Wirth and Harvey the past 2 years, but right on their heels as far production and grit.
