Nederland definitely looks solid this year! Only team we have struggled with in Summer League (Because of their strength and size in the post). Really good well rounded team and for sure Coach English will have them ready.

Don't forget the thrashing HF gave yall!  Fannett could be a regional tournament team, though!

  2. Going from putting all your best athletes on offense to putting your best athletes where they can best help the team win is a crazy idea!  Faircloth is a really good offensive coach, but a lot of times he left their defense undermanned and really wasn't worried about it.  How long does Coach Joseph stick it out down here?

Alot of folks missed on Weisbrod.

And no @72 Pinto I'm not missing your point, but eye test in my opinion and alot of folks opinion on and off here Weisbrod was the better HS player.

I've said numerous times Hef would be the better college player but he was not better than Weisbrod on the HS level.

    Also: they played different positions.

    🤷🏾‍♂️

That's a fair point and maybe he was a better player while Hefner was a better prospect.  The title of the thread is best player ever at a school and I think you have to go with the guy with NBA rings (Davis) over a 6'4 post who kind of sniffed some semi pro workouts.

So where you choose to go to college dictates who's the better HS player? Hmmm ok.

You're missing the point.  Where you are offered to go to college indicates who the better players are.  Weisbrod would have surely chosen to go to a school like A&M instead of Lamar had that been on the table.

Nederland has only one person to even be considered. It’s Colton, a wide gap, and then 3 or 4 more players to be considered. That’s no disrespect to the other guys, but Colton was in a league of his own.

Respectfully disagree.  Hefner chose A&M over offers from Houston and Oklahoma.  Weisbrod went to New Orleans/Lamar.  I'll take Hefner over Weisbrod.

Jamie Weaver went to Houston and was on the Phi Slamma Jamma teams.  I'll take him over Hefner.

Buddy Davis won an Olympic gold medal and two NBA titles in the 50's.  He's your winner for Nederland.  Don't tell Colton's dad I said that, though!

  6. In all seriousness, what is LCM's record next year?  BC, Splendora, and HJ are built in wins.  WOS, Vidor, Lumberton are built in losses.  That's 3-3 with four games that could go either way followed by a first round loss to CH or Kilgore?

Pretty high.  He was one of my wife’s students when she taught at Kelly, so I kept following him at Princeton.  Obviously that list begins and ends with J’Covan but is Persia #2?  I can’t think of anyone I would put in front of him.  Little Langston has a shot.

    J'Covan, Persia, Mullens.

Little Langston was probably the third best freshman in the area last year behind Garrett at WB and Nederland pg, but he doesn't go to Kelly anymore.  PNG kid.  Their best ever is Joel Lafleur.

Best off-season thread on here in a while.  Well done.

Thanks.  I expected more from the Beaumont crowd.  Maybe Nederland too, but they're preoccupied with bashing their own football program right now.  And speaking of Bulldogs, I heard BJ Tyler is going to be the next coach at Kelly.  Anyone else hear that?

Freshman Payton Jones will make a big impact this year. Harris could end up being completely unstoppable.! Especially after what he has been playing and how he has been playing. You most likely going to see great amazing things from him this year. But as of now I" would haft to say Bush. 🤠

I get that Harris is a high major basketball player and Miller is going to play football, but Drelon is absolutely better than Harris right now.  He's got to be Silsbee HS best athlete ever.

    1. Despite being hit hard by graduation the Bucs still complete for 1 of the top 2 spots

    2. The Buna playoff streak ends

    3. Hamshire-Fannett wins their 4A district

    4. The Vidor Pirates end their playoff drought

When was the last time Vidor reached the playoffs?  My bold prediction is that PNG boys basketball gets their first ever playoff win next year.  They've been knocking on the door.

Hummmm.  Getting rid of a coach on the last couple of days or weeks of school sounds awful strange.  So, what's the lowdown on this?  Did something recently happen?  Otherwise they could have got rid of him months ago because of performance.

Yes, something did happen.  And it is a story that will really make you laugh.  Only in Bridge City...

  12. I said exactly what I feel about Buna.  It's a community that doesn't produce a lot of elite athleticism.  Your football and track records back that statement up.  So what?  Orangefield, and many other communities, are similar.  To compete and succeed in basketball with lesser athletes is commendable.  Still think that is a complement.

Or maybe you think your hometown is a hotbed like Miami/Dade County?  Maybe the coaches have underachieved with the abundance of talent?  I think most people probably share my opinion.
