If I’m not mistaken they lost 2 key guys from the bench, a shooter, post player, and they had a guard that came off the bench but is back from last year. They also lost a pg that was a senior and a post player that was a senior. I haven’t seen as many games this year like I saw last year but the Evadale kid and HJ move ins helped lumberton a lot last year.

If you're not mistaken?  You were there!

Now we see.  The Silsbee game was no fluke.  This is a good team.  They are a close third to Silsbee and HJ.

Silsbee is way down from last year.  HJ is way down front last year.  They both still good teams, but the gap to the rest of the district has narrowed.  That doesn't mean the rest of the district is very good.  They are just competitive with each other and closer to the top, which makes things entertaining.  We've been spoiled in recent years with the talent level in this 4A district.

  3. It does happen at other places, but the volume of transfers in such a short period of time is pretty telling.  A big part of participating in athletics is cultivating qualities such as hard work, perseverance, loyalty, etc.  The new HF regime would rather bring in the ringers and just "block out the noise" than actually build the program.  I believe winning is important, but not at the expense of the rules.

While I think local coaches are aware of what's going on, I'd expect this trend to be addressed from within HF ISD.  And I think it will happen sooner than later.

The HF team only has one true transfer student and he is playing JV so he will be able to play next year.  Whoever is giving you info is wrong.  The team has 1 senior, 4 juniors and the rest of the team is sophomores.  The two newer players live in the district and are 10th graders.  Everyone is talking smack about this team because they are wondering how they got so good so fast when the reality is that they finally got a coach that cares about winning and his players.  The talent was always there.  The kids are just now figuring out they can win and when the coach and the kids figure it out the rest of the district will be really wary of playing HF.

Be real.  #2 is a transfer.  #4 is a transfer.  The JV kid is a transfer.  There will be more next year.  There has always been talent in this community, but it's being recruited over for Beaumont/SBG kids.  Guess who coached at both those places?  Tigee Rideaux is a good coach of basketball.  He just doesn't follow the rules that the majority of high school coaches follow and HF is going to get hurt by it.

  5. HF as an administration is confusing to me.  They're ok with blatant recruiting and shady transfers.  Now I'm hearing the Ardoin kid at Tekoa is "moving" there.  The big man acts a complete fool at HJ, gets sent to locker room, then I hear he plays the whole game at LCM.  I'm glad that whoever made the call to suspend that kid still believes in rules and discipline and not just winning at all costs.  HF has been pretty bad in athletics for a while, but at least they used to do things the right way.

On the bright side, my referee buddy that was there said no stall ball in this one.  Just two offenses that couldn't score.

  6. I'm a little surprised at how well Silsbee is doing.  I thought most Silsbee fans underestimated how much losing McCain, Adams, and Tyler would affect them, but I underestimated how great Braelon Bush really is.  Chris Martin, too.  Also, surprised that Lumberton played it this tight, but there are no moral victories.  On to the second half.  How does it play out?  Silsbee-HJ round 2?  Who finishes 3rd and 4th?  I love high school basketball.

So you are telling a high school coach to make sure he has players that can shoot? U do realize he only has the players that are available to him right? He doesn’t offer scholarships lol this is comical

Yea, man, shooting is a skill and it can be taught.  What's comical is you saying coaches only have the players available to them when the guy you are referring to apparently has all of Beaumont available to him.  Work on shooting or do a better job recruiting shooters!

He was not there. Out of town.

So LCM goes into Lumberton and wins without their starting point guard?  That's big for them.  I heard they'd lost some kids from last year and early scores showed it.  Maybe they are coming around, maybe the district is wacky.

Lumberton will be fine.  I always like to pull for Josh Mitchell.  You can tell he is living and dying with every possession.  Some coaches just sit there.  Or play stall ball.

The question that you people who love this game so much are missing is. Why do you think one team is allowed to “stall“? Well I’ll answer it for you. It’s 100% because the opponent refuses to play man to man defense. “Stall ball” would be obsolete without teams sitting in zones. Since we want to outlaw “stall ball” should we outlaw zones as well??? So who do we blame for “stall ball” the offense or the defense? Before you judge someone please become knowledgeable of what you are talking about.

I blame the offense.  Good coaches teach their teams how to play against multiple styles of play.  A team sitting in zone is no less playing basketball than a team in man.  Holding the ball for quarters at a time isn't playing at all and it's non-competitive.  Saying that we're not good enough to score against zone so we're not even going to try sends the wrong message.  Especially in preseason/tournament games when you should be working on this stuff.

However, I think there are situations where it's wise like holding the ball for the last shot of the quarter.  I also like how Lincoln used to do it.  They'd hold it, draw the defense out, and then carve it up.  None of this dribble in and dribble back out crap.  Compete!
