You can’t deny the conservative movement’s purge of scientists from the government and elimination of research funds to “liberal” universities. If you endorse that kind of governance you have to believe in one of the various conspiracy theories connecting science and free thought to elitist world domination. The advances of a modern society are not achieved by the exponential halving of knowledge. It comes from the exponential doubling of knowledge. Try to mess with that societal law and you risk a whole raft of unintended (potentially catastrophic) consequences.
