Maybe pitching has just gotten better :)!?

Without sounding like the neighborhood old man screaming "get off my lawn" or "I remember when" I will respectfully

disagree with the above statement as the sole reason for offensive production/HR numbers being down. This trend has been a topic discussed by plenty of local reputable baseball folks who have very respected opinions. IMHO it's a combination of the bats and the new "elevate and celebrate" mentality where everyone wants to have these huge leg kicks and excessive movements in their swings when they aren't physically mature enough to handle swings like that. The concept of preaching "launch angles" to high school kids and younger players is crazy IMHO. The emphasis on HR's at the higher levels has trickled down to younger players and they simply are not capable of producing those kind of results that MLB players are looking for. Instead of building a fundamentally sound swing and approach at the plate there are guys trying to make young kids into "mini Josh Donaldson's". Swings like Donaldson's are acquired after mastering a basic swing, increasing overall strength, and tons of reps. There have been above average arms in our area forever and I won't discount the fact that there are some really good ones out there now that do plenty of damage to opponents collective offensive stats. The overall decline in offense is a culmination of several factors that appear to be far from being remedied anytime soon. Topics such as this spawn some great discussion and I hope this one continues because I personally enjoy hearing what others think.

  2. Just to be clear.....

I personally don't want threads shut down after the game and I hope my earlier statement hasn't given anyone the idea that I do. I would hope the "overly excessive trash talk" that derails threads over and over would take place somewhere else or in another forum. Let all the "free speech, congratulatory statements, and game re-caps" flow like water because that's what the people want. Just for example when a baseball playoff thread turns into a p!$$!n match about school history or prowess in another sport that has its own dedicated forum then we are truly off topic and or off the rails, this is where the offenders need to be dealt with by the mods so the topic stays on track.

    JMHO, Respectfully.

  3. To all the SETX members,

It's time to take the board back and make it into the place we all enjoy. For quite some time this place has gone downhill for a variety of reasons. If you want a prime example read the BC vs Silsbee baseball game 2 thread starting on page 2, it's just over the top nonsense by both folks just trolling and moderators doing the same thing. There have been some really cool people who posted great information that just quit contributing due to all the trash that gets stirred up. Some of those folks completely left and that's a shame because they made this board a great place for people to get caught up on local high school athletics as well as college sports to some degree. I would like to humbly offer up a suggestion and that's to create a totally separate forum for those folks who just want to antagonize each other and let the trash talk flow. Let all those folks who constantly derail topics have at one another to their hearts content and stay out of topics where they disrupt everybody else. Hopefully this alternate forum can be created and the sports forums can go back to being about sports, the real reason most of us got here in the first place.

    To the Moderators,

I personally appreciate the time you guys put in to keep this place going, I know that's a huge undertaking and thankless job. Hopefully you can "police" the site in the future and discourage all the "foolishness" by sending those unwanted comments to that "alternate forum". One more public appeal to "AAW" , you are an ultra knowledgeable guy who has done a fantastic job promoting local high school sports and I thank you for that. You were always super nice to my son while he was playing and you have been a stand up guy on other issues as well. I would encourage you to promote a little more positive responses to topics by yourself and others going forward because this board is the lifeline to local sports for people all over our area and beyond.

    With respect to all,

We can all be honest here... the only reason why Silsbee is even ranked is because they beat us.

When you you make the regional quarters 18 times in a row (and counting), THEN you can compare yourselves to us.

    Goodnight, Smoketown.

Whoa! Pump the brakes a minute CardinalBacker. I'm as big a fan of BC baseball as anybody but I can't follow you on this one. First off you need to be careful you don't anger "The Great and Powerful Homer" because his wrath will be swift and all encompassing if you get my drift. On a more serious note you have to give respect where its due and Silsbee deserves that, they have a dang good squad. To make the claim that Silsbee is only ranked because they beat BC is comical to say the least and in no way near the truth. The simple truth is that this ultra young BC team has far exceeded their initial expectations. Nobody who was honest with themselves would have believed BC would be where they are right now and that's a testament to Coach Landry and the staff sticking to their program and making the most out of the young talent. Right now it's just time sit back and enjoy this run by the young Cards because the future is ridiculously bright. By all means Silsbee should be the prohibitive favorite in the series and they should be. Silsbee, along with the other schools in the district, should enjoy this brief opportunity to "kick em (BC) when they are down" because that doesn't happen very often and will happen even less in the coming years. This series, along with the OF vs WOS series is a tribute and testament to quality of baseball played in our district. Hopefully all the games will be as advertised and one of our teams makes it to Austin.

    Prediction.........

    My realistic judgement says Silsbee.

    My heart says BC.

    Enjoy it all!

If not mistaken WOS face the #1 Team in the State That Year (Huffman) With Bumpus only giving up 1 run coming into the series that year right? Didn't the week b4 they Beat BC while BC beat WOS 2x that year...So that matchup BS means nothing and any-giving night a team can get beat...

    Just FYI.....

Iowa Park was #1 in the state at that time, Huffman was ranked #2.

Everything Walldrill says is correct in his earlier post about match ups. You (Kj dad) are also correct that any given team can be beat at any given time. Teams that are able to control their own path in the playoffs absolutely look for the best route. Those teams that are not able to control their destiny just take what's thrown at them and do the best they can. (WOS state run a few years ago is a prime example of that and perhaps another reason the run was so impressive). Timing, match ups, coin flips and others most definitely play a huge part in how the playoffs shape up. To say that they don't is just not being willing to have an open discussion while removing your emotions. For example, show me a coach who has made deep playoff runs and I'll show you someone who has been on both sides of the coin flip, good and bad. It's one of the things that makes the game "beautifully cruel".

With all that being said I'd like to personally wish all the local playoff teams good luck and hope they each have successful journeys all the way to state.

    TD Dallas to KJ

Never mind.  TD called back after Dubois yells at ref.   While PAT was pending.

      Wahmbulance coming for Dubois.

Come on TxHoops, you are better than this.

Radio broadcast said refs missed an offensive pick by a WOS receiver and that was what the protest and subsequent reversal was for.

This crew of refs is definitely sub par, and that's being polite.

If they only get two games then I will lose every ounce of respect I have ever had for Coach Dubois.

Before you rush to judgement on Dubois it's possible that school board policy or some other rules may have come into play here. I have only past transgressions to base this on so I could be completely off base as well, I'm just offering up another possible explanation. I know a couple of times there were students that most folks were certain that they would be kicked off a particular team or group that only got smaller suspensions due to school rules. Again I may be wrong but I don't think it's quite so easy to completely dismiss an individual from a team/group.

Just an observation, don't shoot the messenger.
