  1. I'm confused about how it will be cooler the second week of August, or third week, fourth week...yada, yada, yada. Heat exhaustion is a serious issue (perhaps one that we haven't had yet), but I think that the key is proper hydration, proper time between sessions, and everyone (especially the trainers) watching for s/s of heat exhaustion. I don't think the issue is two practices a day; I think that it should be more with common sense, pushing fluids, and watchful eyes. Energy drinks, supplements, etc., etc, etc. probably haven't been around long enough or at least don't have the data/statistics to back up the benefits/risks that they pose to people, especially our kids. I've had two go through WO-S and they both asked to go to GNC to check out "vitamins and supplements". They wanted to grab energy drinks at the convenience stores. Negative to both. I can tell you that I drank energy drinks for about a week and a half...stopped when the palpitations started. I began experiencing flutters and decided that I might want to stick to my Sonic drinks! Trainers are responsible for more than just wrapping ankles, applying ice, treatments...let the first athlete fall out and we'll find out just how responsible they are.
  2. Doesn't a good off-season program help too? Builds them up over the course of the offseason...at least at WO-S? I agree with most of the posts on here.
  3. Agreed! It seems that A&M doesn't get the respect that it should in more than just sports! ??? It is a great school! (So is TU!) 8)
  4. Did Ernie Ladd's son go on to play any ball after high school (Rodney, I believe)? I graduated with him from WO-S.
  5. Education is the key. I'm sorry, but I would not allow my child to leave HS early. I wouldn't want them to leave college before they got a degree, but at that point...it would be their decision, not mine. I sincerely all works out, for his sake.
  6. Watching the Bayou Bowl now. They were talking about a kid from Conroe named Jordan Wilson. The game is dedicated to him because he died in a horrible accident in May. I'm not great at putting the actual link on here, but if you want to read the story and view the video, I copied and pasted the link below. I showed my 15-year old the video and pics because this kid had the world in his corner and one dumb mistake cost him his life. Truly sad. [Hidden Content]
  7. Amen to all! Let's go 'Stangs. We definitely have more size this year.
  8. Love that Mrs. Jacobs and her husband! Awesome artcile!
  9. Great article! I caught a couple of chills on that one!
  10. imo i think a successful season would be getting past the third round of playoffs this year. im not sure what a disappointment would be, the kids at wos work hard and as long as they do their best and play hard thats good enough for me. I couldn't agree with you more. I think sometimes people forget that they are kids and noone wants this more than them! (Not necessarily on here...in the stands, too!)
  11. That is a tough question because of all the talent WO-S has year in, year out. They would have been a winner but maybe not as dominant. The discipline and hardwork Hooks brings is the key. We haven't had to find out, but I guess if we did...we would certainly be no bc, right? LOL My point was anyone can have talent, but most still require coaching and discipline outside of their parents and little league. If Coach Hooks and Coach T left the Mustangs tomorrow, the kids who have been through T's off-season program would still have discipline, etc. that he instilled in them. Not the ones who haven't been exposed. It's kind of the same situation because many of our kids have played and been very successful, but they still have to be "coached"...just a little credit where sometimes not enough is given.
  12. Wow...two Franks and one Haynes...that would be worth the price of admission!
  13. Did I hear this morning that he's going to give some to his community? That's what I'm talking about. Good thing he doesn't live in Austin. I tell you, I about went broke giving. The one that really hurt was the $4 sodas...highway robbery! ;D
  14. We can only hope and pray that comes together! It would be great though!!! He looked great at the track meet.
  15. Great kid and great family! We'll enjoy him and Trey one more year!!!
  16. They look happily tired! A couple of them participated in the UT football camp! Get some rest Toby, Coach Simon and boys! You definitely deserve it!!!
  17. It was good to see Toby and his daddy! How proud Coach Foreman is and should be!!!
  18. I wish nobody, but I think that's wishful thinking. It will be fun to watch though.
  19. As Kanye West sings (in that song that is being played for the NBA playoffs)....SIMPLY AMAZING! Does she play any other sports because she has good size and obviously just a little bit of athletic ability?
