1. Praying and knowing that God will be with you and your family 112% from the Mustang family!!
 2. Well...I see consistency.  The Mustangs, defense as well as offense, are consistently finding ways to win.  Jimmy did an excellent job, even though he had some incompletions.  Just glad that he didn't quit throwing because of that.  ;)
 3. Great game 'Stangs!  Thank God DaeDae is ok.  As far as Salter's accuracy...he's not perfect, but he can make throws.  If not, he wouldn't have the passing yardage that he has. When he's close to perfect, I'm sure he will appreciate monetary compensation.  Again, good game Cleveland.  Mustangs, you make us proud...no matter what!
 4.
If you are a WOS fan and you can't admit that this is very shady, you need to take off those Blue and Silver shaded glasses! I love the statement that he is going to try and graduate early! EARLY??? WOS may not have known for sure, but this kid and his family knew! He also has some younger siblings in the district, bet they know their ages.
Actually, I don't believe that he has younger siblings as he is the youngest!  "Almost" decent point though.
 5.

Trust me, this is the one time I pray that I am wrong.
Me, too, kicker.  Me, too. And let me be clear, I am certainly not looking for disciples to my point of view.  I post because I feel strongly about this.  If you feel that strongly as well, then get involved.  Research, to the extent you can, the issue.   Call the committee members who have given their numbers, e-mail the superintendent about your views, his email is address is on the school district website.  Folks who have a stake or just an opinion should be doing this whether or not they agree with my assessment of the committee or my views on what the result would be.
Amen.  We won't get a second chance at this, so let your voices be heard now.
 6.
And on further recollection, it would be hypocritical for me to weigh in heavily yet not reveal what I have learned. I understand that at least three candidates were sought out by the Colbert Committee.  Those three are 1) , as well as Tyler Lee; 2) Hiawatha Hickman, current defensive coordinator at Silsbee and 3) M.K. Hamilton, head coach at New Waverly.  I know that Coach Hickman declined to submit applications which going as far to endorse Cornel Thompson for the head coaching position at West Orange-Stark.  I do not know whether Coach Hamilton submitted one. There is a fourth potential candidate that was rumored to contacted as well, but I have no source close enough to this candidate to determine the reliability of the report.
I heard these same things/names.  In fact, I heard two more names (one of which declined out of respect for Coach T) and the other who might be faring well in this process right now.  Maybe they should be called the "Recruitment/Selection Committee"...  I will continue to pray that Coach T will get the job.
 7.
Excellent post, stang4life!
;D  I am trying... Going to retrieve one of my big/best signs from the Admin Office this a.m.
 8. Our new HC/AD's name will be released before the semi-finalists list will be.  Strange that it's so hush-hush.  So much for transparency.  LOL
 9. Not a gambler, but I would bet a paycheck that most of the people who do not care for Coach T or Coach Hooks are probably disgruntled parents of former players who either did not get the playing time that the parents thought he deserved or "the coaches didn't get their baby a scholarship".  Reality check: no teachers got my son any of his scholarships to Texas A&M, nor did I expect them to.  Parents need to do their job and be a parent.  If you need input from coaches, so be it.  I know that there are many in my generation and down who feel that the rules are too strict.  (i.e. no earrings, do-rags, haircuts with designs in them,  dread-locks, etc.) Well, my take on that is that in the real world, we have to sacrifice or adhere to certain standards in order to be part of a team.  Coach T believes that the TEAM is uniform and that some of the aforementioned take away from a "team" concept).  His strict discipline does not bother me at all because I have tried to implement that same discipline in my home.  If it were up to me, visible tattoos would disqualify a kid from participating, but I guess they are luck there.  I have been shocked by the number of kids who have tattoos (here and elsewhere). Coach T is the most deserving of this job because he has built this program and has waited his turn in line.  His age should not be an issue because he plans to coach 8-10 more years which is longer than any other candidate will last because I believe that everyone else who applies for this job will simply use it as a stepping stone to a bigger and better job.  As for the other rumors that I have heard...let me just say that outside appearances do not provide good/awesome coaches...HEARTS do and Coach T has a huge heart. Lastly, I chuckle every time I hear someone say...WO-S doesn't need another Coach Hooks who ran the district.  Really?  That's why WO-S' track is forced to go to other local schools to practice track because our track is horrible and our field event practice pits/etc. are negligible because WE DON'T HAVE ANY.  There is huge difference in Coach Hooks standing up for his program and "running something."  I'm sure that if I tried really hard...I might be able to get the two confused.  No, wait...just kidding, I wouldn't. Coach T deserves this position.
 10.
I heard that there are yard signs that are popping up around town.  Does anyone have any pictures to share on this?
As a matter of fact, I have a pic of the one placed in front of WOCCISD's Administration building, but I cannot get it to load.  Some said:  Coach 'T' 112%. The one placed in front of the admin office had a pic of Coach T and quoted Proverbs 27:17 and was the verse on the first shirt our boys received after Reggie's death and then says Coach 'T' 112%. Another one said: Coach 'T' has disciplined us, loved us, & counseled us. We ask...what have you done for us lately? Please vote Coach 'T' for A.D.
 11. I could not agree with you more on the academics.  Any district's academics are what our kids and parents make of it.  Those of us from WO-S understand (more than anyone else, I think) why our "academics" get a bad rap.  WO-S, until now, have been comparable to other schools.  Historically, we have had a pretty good number of courses that our students could take (co-op) and get college credits and AP courses.  My son graduated in 2007 as Salutatorian and completed his calculus course as an independent study course.  Coach T and our other core coaches pushed him as much as I did, to achieve this goal.   I understand that we may not have the "right" to know who the other four candidates are, but if this was the plan, then I don't understand why "transparency" was ever intertwined in this process by Superintendent Colbert.   mustangproud...I don't know who you are, but I will say this... while there might be athletes who are identified in middle school as talented, there are many throughout middle school, 9th, 10th and 11th grades who earn their time on the field, track, court, etc.  It is the coaches' jobs to identify talent and build on it.  Of course, we as parents, want our kids to excel at anything they do, but sometimes...it just doesn't work out that way.  Besides, coaches do not just spend their times developing "talented" kids...probably half of the battle is getting kids "COACHABLE"...that starts at home with parents teaching discipline and respect.
 12. Congrats to West Orange-Stark Mustangs Ryan Allen and Britton Lindsay for winning their respective divisions.  Way to represent WO-S!
 13. Yes, WO-S too.  I'm glad that WO-S, as a team, participated in this meet, but I think that it's wrong when you say...well, your TEAM can enter our meet, but only if your TWO BEST INDIVIDUALS don't.  Come on now.  That's a crock.  Besides, you will not be able to keep them out of district and you can only test yourself and get better if you run against the best/fastest. Oh well, way to go Mustangs.  Not too shabby.  Wish I could go to the TSU relays, but job says I can not.  Good luck there too!
 14.
OU probably thinks it's too risky since he didn't play much this year. Not sure about Texas, Maybe he should get his feet wet with Lamar and once he proves himself again he could take a shot at a D1 school.
I don't think it's too risky for anyone.  I think that he has proven himself enough considering he had a pretty good high school career in football, he is the FASTEST 3A RUNNER IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, the 3rd fastest young man in the nation in track.  I think that the best, more accurate thing to do would be to wait until this young man signs in February.  Very creative in getting this topic back on the forum...don't see him going to  Lamar even though many of us would really like him to be closer in proximity than OU.
 15. Silsbee....could you guys please just win, win, win, win, etc. (is that enough to win state)?  Second, could Rockdale beat Coldspring and Caldwell beat Cleveland, so their "fans" will go away and stop this euphoric fixation on how THIS YEAR 22-AAA beat ALMOST everyone except SILSBEE...oops, did you forget about that last little hurdle coming out of 21-AAA? We take comfort in hoping that your players are a wee-bit more focused on this week's games than on last weeks wins.  I don't know exactly what it will take for us to say to you...we've conceded that COLDSPRING won the game.  You played smarter than we did.  You WON the game.  Wish we could loan you a little couthe and suave', but I guess that just comes naturally with more wins, winning seasons, and playoff runs.  Keep working and you'll get there, but we do respect you for what you have accomplished...you beat us.  Cleveland beat BC.  Our seasons are over and we are now looking forward to next season...you just concentrate on Friday!!!
 16.

We will never know about Silsbee playing Cleveland, but if years past would be any indication, Silsbee would pimp slap the Indians. So go back to your TeePee and take a few more hits on your piece pipe.
Dude, everyone said Cleveland wouldnt beat Bridgecity and that Coldsprings wouldn't have a chance against WOS , we beat both teams, give credit where credit is due, yeah we have some bonehead fans that makes crazy comments, there just proud, you really dont know what the outcome would be if our 2 teams played a game, I think both sets of players would give it there all, and who knows what the out come would be....
Ohhh.....WO-S and Silsbee are egotistical, but Cleveland and Coldspring are "just proud"....LOL    Ugh, OK, dude!
 17.

As an outsider I'm gonna say Dan Hooks could have left along time ago for bigger and better but he loves his job at WOS.With that being said I vote to kill this thread as there is no valid reason it should have started.
Why kill the thread?  This is a legitimate question and topic, just let the moderators monitor it to make sure it doesn't get out of hand.  The question is "Is this the beginning of the end of the Hooks era?"  Coach Hooks has been coaching for many years and this will ALWAYS be a question to answer after each season whether there is turmoil or not. I'm sure Hooks loves to coach or he wouldn't have hung in there so long, but the real question is "How long does Hooks feel like fighting all of the surrounding issues outside of the X's and O's".  The scary part for wos is that if the fans feel that the school board and officials are making bad decisions and overriding what Hooks wants (after all the things he has done for the school)...then what do you think things will be like when Hooks retires and the board "hand picks" who they want to replace him?  Everyone seems to have their own opinion of who the heir apparent will be, but the board has the ultimate responsibility of recommending a coach to the Superintendent. Earlier in this thread someone finished their post with the sentence "Everything is fine in Mustang land" (or something to that effect) Well, just because you say something over and over doesn't necessarily make it true.
Ditto...that goes both ways!  I'm sure these same conversations were being discussed after we didn't make the playoffs after our late '80s run.  Then, we redeemed ourselves in 2000.  And before anyone says we lost in 2000...I tell you what, I will take an appearance in the State Finals than to never make it there to begin with.  I find it hilarious that most true Mustang fans are satisfied with how our boys play and most outsiders are the unhappy ones.  Coach Hooks is not going anywhere for a while.  The well hasn't run dry and will not for a while.  Believe it or not, there will be enough parents who are willing to stay in the district and not high-tale it over to LCM for their "education system".  Our district is improving academically.  As far as some of our other problems, they are no different than those at the LCMs, BCs, or any other district in the state of Texas or probably U.S. for that matter.  To everyone "concerned" about Coach Hook's, we appreciate all of your thoughts, time and efforts.  ;)
 18.
Bobo said in an earlier post that he lives in Lumberton.  He said in this post that he moved his kids from WOS.  He dislikes the coaches and athletic program at WOS, as most of his posts prove.  That should answer many questions for those wondering.
I think I have the answer:  bobo is a current WO-S board member!  All of these descriptions fit some of them to a tee!  ;D
 19.
Silsbee fans have about as much ego as WOS fans do.
[s]Sometimes[/s] Many times, EGO is confused with CONFIDENCE!  There is a difference.  ;)
 20. I just love all of the new posters...should be good for the forum.  You crack me up!!! ;)
 21.

I enjoy the trash-talking before a game--that's just a way to psyche each other out, and you should be a proud supporter of your school and by extension your AAA district.  But what I'm reading on this thread is classless--sounds like ungracious winners and ungracious losers. The truth is Cleveland and Coldspring are powerhouses in a weaker district than WOS's and Silsbee's district.  21AAA is always competitive, but so are Coldspring and Cleveland.
This is exactly why I started this post... We (Cleveland&Coldspring), get sick and tired of hearing how we are in a weak district and cannot compete with your district. How great would it be if Cleveland & Coldspring meet up again this season... Go Trojans and ROLL TRIBE ROLL... BEASTMODE Lives another week...
Hmmmm....again, CONGRATS!  You know, I can't say that I get sick and tired of hearing our district get disrespected on any of your local websites...does 3A downlow happen to be one of those because if so...then, you are one of  the reasons that I haven't been on that board for several years now.  Coldspring outplayed and outscored WO-S last night.  I don't know what more you want from of us or Silsbee...  I would really like to offer one of our rings to you, but I can't because you have to get to where we've been AT LEAST ONCE!  And, before you say something, I don't know if either Coldspring or Cleveland has ever won a state championship and really don't care because if I did...I would google it.  Just keep showing your (can't really think of a good word to go here) and get ready for next week because you have a reason to frequent our website after Friday.  Good luck to Coldsprings and maybe your football team can help some of you posters work on your couthe and suave'... ;)
 22.

We're on a football board, where it's perfectly acceptable to worry about football scores. ::)
And that might be part of West Orange's problem.....More concerned with football than school. Roll your eyes all you want, SHSTIGER, West Orange is a shell of its former self, and education is part of the problem. Even the parents of athletes are trying to get to districts like LCM so their kids can have a descent education.
Trust me, most of "the parents of athletes trying to get into districts like LCM" are not doing it for the education.  See, most of us know most of the kids and their families who have transferred to the LCMs and the majority have transferred because their children aren't disciplined enough to participate in WO-S athletics (namely football) or some have transferred because their child might get a little more playing time.  That being said, there are some who transfer because they decide to focus on baseball and feel that they will fare better at the LCMs.  Nice try.  I might even venture to say that you are one of those who got "to districts like LCM so their kids can have a DECENT education"...  I hope not, but it would not surprise me. Coach Hooks isn't going anywhere.  I think that may be a goal of the school board.  I can name several school board members that need to go and hopefully we can take care of that in May, 2010.  WO-S is EXPECTED to win, win, win by it's fans and non-fans.  It's not feasible ALL OF THE TIME.  In fact, I would bet you that there have actually only been (6) or fewer that have won state titles in the last (6) years.  (And to think, I graduated from WO-S and figured that out!  WHUH!)   We will be fine.  We don't just have the young athletes who played varsity this year, we have loads of talent at every level from JV to little league too.  Our wells are far from dry.  Money from anywhere spent on getting our education system would be awesome, but it is still not the answer.  Most of that is a direct result from home and that problem cannot be fixed with money.  But, to criticize Coach Hooks or anything pertaining to athletics/football is crazy because as I've stated many times...the Mustang football program is responsible for assisting many young men who would probably never set foot on a college campus, go to college and has made many men out of boys.  Trust me, I am the mother of two such Mustangs and one is a work in progress as we speak. ;)
 23.
This ain't grammer class buddy  Don't look for the minor details to call us out on.  WOS ain't the power house it used to be!  Now it's not even worth talking about...
Hey Jethro...it obviously is because you are "talking" about the Mustangs now...even after us losing!  Besides, when you take our title of All-Time Winningest Football Program in the state of Texas in all classifications...then you might be able to talk.
 24.
You guys in the golden triangle love to call yourself a "power house", we over here in 22AAA think it's funny how nobody ever gets past the third round
Not nearly as funny as you not getting past the first or second round.  I would much rather lose with class than to win with none.  Good luck to you and maybe pick up a little couthe and suave' on the way.  Thankfully, none of us in 21-3A lose any sleep about what you in 22-3A thinks about us.  Don't start talking trash until you get past Silsbee, l'il one!!!
 25. Congrats to Coldspring for a very good game.  Hope you have a lengthy run (like to state)!! To the Mustangs...you guys showed allot of heart in that you never gave up even when many of your fans did (as they showed when they left with 3 minutes left to go).  I think that sometimes people tend to forget that no one wants to win these games more than you guys do because you are the ones who have busted your butts everyday and endured Coach T's off-season.  I am very proud of you for the perseverance you showed this year in all of the adversities that you faced.  Keep your heads up and know that you have been a part of a very special family...the Mustang family.  To the seniors...thank you for giving us your all and allowing us to be a part of your senior year.  Hope to see many of you on the court and the track.  To the underclassmen, knowing that we have you to look forward to lends us a little bit of comfort because we are so young.  I can't wait...counting the days down for next year!!!
