1. Looking at the chart, Houston is screwed if they want to take Clowney #1 and move up to get one of the two coveted QBs if they fall. To move to 16 it would cost Houston 1st in 2nd, 1st in 3rd, 1st in 4th and the extra late 4th rounder they have. Only way I see them getting one of those QB's and a top 4 guy like Mack is if they trade out of #1 and stay in the top 4 or 5.
2. Great for him and Great for the community of West Orange because Earl will continue to give back to the hometown he loves for years to come.   This guy is the epitome of a PRO!
3. JJ has made a first round trade in 20 of the last 24 drafts (something like that). If JFF or Bortles is around at 16, I suspect you will see trade number 21! someone will be hungry enough to drop some picks to move up and get either of them.   Using the Draft Chart this trade is almost even (off by 5 points) Dallas gets an extra 3rd and moves up 12 spots on day two. Experts say this may be the best 2nd thru 4th round draft ever for talent. Dallas needs DL/LB/S help and lots of it.   Dallas gives            Cleveland gives Rd 1 Pick 16           Rd 1 Pick 26 Rd 2 Pick 15           Rd 2 Pick 3                                   Rd 3 Pick 19   Pick 26 you still get a guy like DT Jernigan, DT Tuitt, LB Barr or LB Shazier any of whom you would have probably picked at 16 anyway. Get a top FS and another DT in round 2 then get a steal of a RB (probably the only Offensive need with Murrays injury issues) in rd 3 and another DL in Rd 3.  Thats 4 defensive starters and a need at RB to keep Murray healthy. Pick a guy like McCarron in the fourth and groom him as the next QB.
4. Athletically yes. But many that fear his circus like atmosphere wanted to see a more professional show and felt like they walked into the big top instead.
5. Rodon hs not looked very sharpe this year. It's looking like the kid from Shepard might be the consensus #1. Big Arm. Upper 90's FB.
6. Thats all Romo needs is the JFF Chants the first time he throws an incomplete pass!   Only reason this makes any sense is if the back injury is worse than thought.   JFF will be there at 16. He could actually last until the 20's. Lot of teams have really backed way off of him after his pro day display.   So does JJ sacrifice his two and three to move up into 20's to get him or does he waste a top 20 pick on him at 16?
7. Yes. Before the injury this fall he was on pace for well over 1000 yards and had become the feature back over Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron.
8. One scenario that makes sense is that Clowney's agent has already begun negotiations with Houston and his client could only hurt himself with continued workouts. If I'm Houston and I have made up my mind and Clowney is my guy, I sure as heck don't want him getting hurt participating in a useless workout for the Jaguars or Rams!
9.   LT Smith could have a long and very productive career. He's still very, very young, but impressive and keeps improving. He could make the list down the road and maybe suplant Williams as a starter. MLB Sean Lee probably will never make the list due to playing time with the injuries (I don't expect him to play too many years in the league) but if he were healthy he would eventually make the list. Too early to tell, but Rookie Center Fredrick looked great last year. If he produces like that for any length of time he could see the list especially since he really only has to suplant an up and down player like Gurode. Thats about it.   Oh and Dez Bryant is on the list, but maybe a tad pre-maturely?? Not sure he should have suplanted Tony Hill yet, but given another year or two he should with certainty.
10. We've seen what Fitzpatrick brings to the table and he'll make for a good backup. Mallet was highly regarded out of college, but dropped in the draft due to some off field issues and has sat behind one of the best. Ready to prove himself. I say a fourth or even third is worth it. I'd rather Mallet in the third than any of the possible so called first rounders this year.
11. BINGO Mallett can begin to win games for a team with talent like Houston has week one. On top of this Houston could spend its top two or three picks on guys that should start day one and have immediate positive impacts. Get Clowney, best available top 2nd round (with emphasis on ILB, Safety, OL, TE). Then do same in third. You walk away with four immediate impact starters.
12. Just read that NE wants a 3rd round pick for Mallett. He is a Restricted FA after this year so they figure getting a 3rd now is better than a potential compensatory pick after the 4th next year when he leaves via Free Agency. If so I would offer the 1st pick in the 4th and see if they bite. I think NE is wanting to draft a guy like McCarron in the 3rd and start the team control on him until Bradys contract is up in 4 years. Mallet is not the heir apperent to Brady simply because he will not sit and wait another four years and rightfully so.
13. Draft Clowney...Then, what happened to the deal with NE for Ryan Mallett? Is he worth the 1st pick in round 2? If your pickng a potenial future QB there anyway, wouldn't it be worth it to get a guy in Mallett that you are extremely familiar with and is ready to start and produce day 1? He's also a Texas Guy!
14. Too much of a gamble to take with the first pick.   The young man could become a superstar QB, but he will have to refine his game quite a bit. Thats the big question with the scouts. Can he change his style enough to be successful??? I don't think any NFL front office is worried about his off field antics, because they really were extremly mild in comparison to many many others, but they were blown out because he was the first Freshman Heisman and the Media loves a darling!   I think he has the skillset and determination to be THE GUY at some point, but he is not THE GUY today and that makes him a gamble. He could be the next Russell Wilson, but even Wilson wasn't a first round QB. Tarkington and Flutie were later round picks as well and took a few years to create the NFL version of themselves.   I would have no problem with Houston selecting him, but not with the first pick in the draft. First pick has to be a no brainer future All-Pro...you don't get the chance that often to get the pick of the litter!
15. HS coaches need time as assistant coaches. They need to learn the recruiting business first. And make no mistake...it is a business that requires 24/7 attention.
16. Is this gonna be any use of the word? Since half the music industry uses the word like the and and.
17. Prospects like Springer, Appel, Singleton and Wojo this season plus the fact that young Starters Cosart, Oberholtzer and Peacock all pitched very well down the stretch last season. Added Feldman to the rotation and helped the bullpen that was miserably BAD last year and lost a lot of games for them with established guys like Qualls and Crain. Fowler was a good addition to the lineup and should do well in MMP. Villar and Dominguez should continue to get better.   So I expect this team to be over 65. Not by much, but not another 100 loss season.
18. So new QB who enrolled early and no action!   Thats gonna hurt.   NCAA is filled with morons
19. Both signed...Too late on them.
20.
0-2 to start the year. Poor Indians going to be crying Cherokee instead of singing it :(
Remember you posted that in a few weeks. I sure hope 20-4A sleeps on 2-8 PNG! 😉
21.
I wonder how this theory plays out across other sports such as basketball, soccer, baseball, and girls sports like volleyball, girls basketball, and softball. If this were correct wouldn't the curve of multiple state championships play out across other sports outside of football?
Basketball is the only sport were the inner city schools thrive, but to be fair it only takes two standouts in basketball to win a state title. In a big city school with 1500-2500 students there are going to often times be a few kids that are doing the AAU thing. Also seems like the big city schools have started hanging their hats on basketball. It is a much cheeper sport than football. Baseball, Softball, Voleyball...It's most of the same schools mentioned in the football article. Or at least schools from similiar demographics.
22. TC is not the 11th best team in 4A! And there are not 29 teams better than Nederland. Might outta swap those two.
23. That almost backfired on LCM.  Bears had a very good team that year and PNG was rebuilding. PNG came out fired up and jumped out to a nice first half lead, but LCM came back and won it in the second half. Saddest part in that was that no one from LCM staff took control. It took PNG admins to squelch it, both times!
24. You guys keep pointing out the smaller schools 3A and down, but FWoodFans point was correct...sort of...At the 4A and 5A levels where there are more big money schools, the big money schools are winning. Its the big city suburban schools taking home the prize more often then not. When was the last time a Dallas, FW, Austin(and dont count Westlake cause it aint in the city), Houston, SA, EP team won a title?  Its because the rich kids spend all year training with their private speed and agility coach or strength and conditioning coach. Think about, would you rather coach a handful of great athletes that work on FB from August to November or a team full of kids that eat, sleep, and breath FB 24/7.  Oh and the later choice pays twice as much! I think the biggest difference in the two is the line play and QB play. The wealthy linemen goes 6'3" 270 and is fit and the QB spends all year learning the hardest position in sports. Where the poorer linemen is 6'3" 300 and slow and the QB is way behind the curve.
25. Not bad. Passing game looks very good with both QBs. Still need to beef up the ground game. Cropper #9 can fly as we saw tonight, but tuff going when you gettin hit in the backfield. Yeoj, Rose 36 led district in yards last year.
