Forget the Willie Ray Smith awards, let's talk about being all State both ways!!! In 4A!!! I guess the Associated Press is wrong too.
For the record I have said from day one he had the best HS football season overall in this area this year and I figured he'd win one of the awards out of respect for this fact, but I was shocked he won both awards. Not so much that HE won the awards, but that they voted him to win both awards. Just didn't think they would do it. And your argumment lost merit when you asked if the AP got it wrong....They get it wrong more than any one group of voters in the state. Not that they got it wrong with Montana, just I wouldn't use the AP as the benchmark.  ;D It will be very interesting to see where this team goes next year without Montana. Very Interesting.
I'm in no way defending Lamar because I would much rather my son go to a juco than to Lamar and that's my own personal feelings so no need for the Lamar supporters to get all uptight. When I spoke to one of Lamar's coaches, it seemed to me that they didn't have many scholarships to offer. Can't quote him word for word but they only had 7 football players graduating. I don't know too many kids or parents that would agree to "finding" a way to make it work the 1st year with the possibility of getting a scholarship the next year when they have 30+ graduating.
Good point, but in Montana's case if he is going on a 2 year mission trip, wouldnt the scholarship not count until 2015? Of course they may also take the stance that they can offer in 2015 when he returns.
 6. We agree there. Woodard should have offered this young man. He can play the game. Maybe not at LB and not a QB, but he could play Safety at the FCS level for sure.
 7.
Jaron was a very good player and was a great teammate. PAM got a good one in Johnson. Hope him the best. I might catch a PAM game just to see how he does
I will say this as far as it looks from the outside in...Playing at PAM as a D1 talent tends to get you more offers than playing at Nederland or PNG or Vidor as a D1 talent. even more so if you have FBS talent.  Only an assumption on my part, but I would guess watching 12 kids sign on the dotted line this year at PAM might have swayed this young man's thought process. I could be totaly wrong (happened once before  ;D).
 8.
Lamar offered all the kids that had D-1 offers of course they're not going to go to Lamar. And please point out what kid he offered from this area that had other southland or juco offers besides Robert Mitchell (only other offer was Kilgore JC). The fact is Ray Woodard has ignored PAM and WOS for the most part along with the rest of the Triangle. But he can go sign kids from other area's of the state and as far as New York. If the guy had a brain he'd be milking PAM Mcneese and WOS. Just like Mcneese does
He offered and got a verbal from Fisk at PAM and he chose Morgan State on signing day and offered OT Justin Reasons from PNG and he chose SFA. Theres two this year! Hate to burst your bubble with FACTS. Most of the PAM kids are choosing FBS schools over LU because they are FBS talent. PAM players the past few years have gone to Arkansas, Baylor, UofH amongst others. LU will be hard pressed to beat them out.
 9. Lamar signed several local kids and offered several others that chose to go elsewhere. Just because they didn't offer the Vidor guy, doesn't mean they aren't giving local kids a shot. Take a look at the roster. It's peppered with local kids and the team can't compete in the SLC!
 10. Did Buddy put up another mailbox?
 11. Congrats to Montana. Capping an outstanding HS career. I know wherever he goes after graduation, the rest of 20-4A will be glad he is there! ;)
How about building a new stadium next to the actual high school. Nederland would probably spend just as much money with all of the renovations as it would if they started from scratch. They deserve a nice stadium on campus...course they kinda deserve a new campus also!  ;D

Gotta good group of athletes coming in as Freshman next year. Good enough to compete in 20-4A down the road.
 14. wow 83 points! Abel opened it up. Great job NDNs. Good luck in the playoffs.
 15.
But what does the trade say to the fans? If I was an Astros fan, I would be irate at the current state of the team.... When Lowrie was healthy last year, he was one of the bright spots.... I agree, try to gather as many young prospects as you can, but you have to put fans in the seats somehow, and the promise of a bright future doesn't do that.... Their team payroll is less than a handful of players will make alone this year...
It says to me, and I am a FAN, that the front office is smart. Was Lowrie gonna make the difference in this team being competative this year? NO Is he a part of the long term plan? NO (Villar, Mier or Correa) Did he have his best pro season last year before the injury? YES Is there anything that suggests that he will do it again? NO Time to get something for him while you can cause if he reverts back to the below average MLB hitter with 10 HR power then you wasted him. Building from the farm system and sprinkling in a few FA here and there is the way to go...Ala the 1990 Stros, the current Cards, Rays and Giants.  What makes Houston different from the Pirates and Royals who are always rebuilding is that the Stros can sustain a payroll above 100 mil. So when their young talent matures they can keep them. PATIENCE

Faircloth took those same athletes and went 3 in a row. Last year was difficult. To his credit Faircloth tried to make the change at QB to the Sophomore and moved the tall QB to WR, where he really wanted to play, but the Soph got hurt.  Next few years will be a tell tell on BF. Very talented Soph down to 8th grade groups. Kinda like Mathews had in 2010, everyone is entitled to a let down year. Lets see what Jeff does without Montana and his talented group of compadres.
I agree with you. Although as much as I hate to say it, PNG will be loaded for more years then just Soph to 8th grade. The 7th grade and 6th graders have alot of potential. PNG might be in the playoffs after next year for about 6 years in a row. I still think ya'll might struggle next year and have a young team if they bring up all the Sophs.
Agreed. But outside of Nederland the district wont be as tough 2-8 next year. Kinda like this year it was as tough 3-8. Silsbee, Summer Creek and WOS right outta the box. This young group could be 0-3 before district. On another note, isn't it great how there has always been a Barbay in this conversation (top 5).

PAM has talent, but compared to some of the other region 3 5A schools they aren't anymore loaded. Remember PAM was a combination of 3 schools, but they still have a rather small enrollment in the 5A ranks and it's shrinking. I think Kenny has done very well with PAM. Jeff Mathews has done a good job with Vidor, but they are 2-3 in the playoffs the last four seasons and didn't win a DC, actually finishing 3rd twice and folks forget three years ago they were 2-8. In comparison Faircloth at PNG in that same time frame has one DC and two 2nd place finishes and went 3-3 in the playoffs, but folks remember only this past seasons 2-8 team. Faircloth's teams have been better than Mathews teams over that span, not by much.             Overall      Dist        Playoffs PNG      28-18      18-10        3-3            1 DC - 2 2nd Vidor    28-18      17-11        2-3            2 2nd - 1 3rd This is why I can't put Mathews in the top 5...Because I can't put Faircloth in the top 5.
NDN, the difference is PNG historically has had decent teams with a state appearance in 99 along with several playoff berths recently before BF took over. Matthews took over a dead program and brought them to life. There may have been one F-A-N that said that about Kenny, but there were several that were bashing him. It's not like there are alot of PAM fans on here anyways. ;D
Common misconception that PNG was a perrinial playoff team before Faircloth took over. They actually went to the playoffs 3 times in the nine seasons before Faircloth. With several 3-6 and 5-5 seasons mixed in. Also Mathews has been at Vidor for 10+ years (not sure how long) and only recently have they had any success. The guy has done very well in changing the overall sports culture at Vidor. Just not willing to say he is a top 5 local coach...Yet.

 20. 1. Bryan Barbay - Coldspring (State Title and deep playoff runs make him #1 on list) 2. Larry Neumann--Nederland (longevity counts, but gotta get his team to a state title or others on list will pass him.) 3. Cornel Thompson - WOS (can't discount what he has meant to WOS program through the years) 4. Kenny Harrison--PA Memorial (had PAM on the cusp, will he get them back?) 5. WT Johnston--Newton (2013 could be the year of the Eagle)
 21.
Congrats Lamar...you won the battle of BAD TEAMS!  ::) ::)
Don't knock it...They been losing that battle.
 22.
Not sure what they were thinking by trading away Jed Lowrie... They got back some prospects, but I'm not sure how close they are to being in the majors... Not trying to down them, but they will more than likely have to work very hard to not lose 100!!!
Trade was smart. They got one big power bat in Carter who hit 16 HR in 200 AB last year for Oakland and is only 26 years old. He will K alot, but should hit 30+ dingers and has a history of walking some. With the lack of power bats this was a good pickup. Stros were gonna lose 100 with or without Lowrie so getting Carter and possibly Stassi the young Catcher in the deal who appears to have some power as he hit 15 Hr in 300-400 ABs already a couple times in the Minors. If Stassi could hit 20 Hrs in 600 abs in the MLB in a few years and call a good game then thats an excellent pickup. Lowrie was a hot comodity now based on his best pro season yet last year before the injury. Stros strike while the irons hot especially since two of there best prospects are SS in Villar and Correa. Villar could be with the club in September.

 25. Big question for Central is who is under Center. They also had a jitterbug from the Freshman team that I would expect to see some time on Varsity in some capacity.
