    Yes, I do agree and will be the 1st to say that the football hire at United was a mistake, I said it when it was announced.  That head coach in waiting won't get the reigns when AL steps down unless they make a playoff run in 2019.  I most undoubtingly agree that winning and scholarships is what counts and neither is happening but the cupboard is far from being bare at United...

    Is that a done deal?

    You would figure that people would want to open it up and do a better job of vetting this go round?

    Scott Surratt at Carthage:  It took him only 1 year to win State.  In his 12 years there, Scott has won 6 State Championships.  Carthage had NOT won State before Surratt got there.  Again, no "move-ins" before he got there.  Only "good move-ins" since he's been there?  I think not.  It was his coaching that done it!

    I’m going to say you’re fooling yourself if you don’t think that some of those piney woods kids are deciding to play at Carthage instead of Timpson, Garrison or Beckville.

    I get that point for sure. I really do. But I have witnessed this man give everything he has in both sports for the last 4 years. He never cuts practice short, he never takes it easy on anyone, he never EVER misses a day no matter what. I have no idea how he does it, but he does. This is going to help him personally but it is not going to be good for the program unfortunately. You will not find anyone that will out work him and care about the kids the way he does. I know this for a fact.

    I don’t think anyone on here is going to speak ill of Joubert’s efforts. But we’d all be fooling ourselves if we sat here an said that Kountze is a good job. Especially if the AD title is not attached.

    Scored 24 points in district play and 76 for the year.

    11 wins the past 5 years.

    2014= 4-7

    2015=2-8

    2016=3-7

    2017=1-7

    2018=1-9

    I agree that it is best to have a guy come in to lead the team.  But if I were a betting man, itll take more than a fresh face to turn it around anytime soon.  I think the talent level has gone down altogether in Kountze.  They had a couple athletic kids play football recently, but it's hard to turn the corner.  I wish them luck.  Would like to see another successful SETX team.

    Didn’t there best freshman transfer to Silsbee this season?

    And Shadow Creek's first varsity team was in 2016.  Silsbee we played them in Silsbee that year..  And the school is located in Pearland, but pull from Manvel area...

    This is the hidden content, please

    I think because kids weren’t seniors yet, they played a hybrid JV/Varsity schedule. I don’t believe they were in a UIL district until this most recent realignment.

    Not saying he hasn't done a respectable job.  Just saying if the Injun faithful is satisfied with losing in the second or third round every time, then great.  But, if you are looking for a State Championship, then, IMO, it's not going to come from this HC.  How really hard is it to gain a playoff spot when there are 4 teams?   One has to be pretty bad not to make the playoffs under this format.  Heck, 2-8 and 3-7 teams make the playoffs.  Just wondering out loud, though, what the Aledo coach could have done with the Injun teams the past two years with the QB they had?  Nederland had a pretty good QB the past two years also.  Same question about the Aldo applies to them also.

    Nick Saban and Bill Belichick aren’t winning with the DBs and WRs running 40s over 5.0 and DL weighing in right at 200 lbs, regardless of effort or technique.

    Shame Barbers Hill isn’t on the list! BH deserves better & Westerberg deserves his walking papers! The old 1 & the young 1! He’s a POS that only talks to QB’s & recievers, picks boys who post on social media threatening to shoot gays &coming off suspension to represent the team as captains,  does NOTHING to help boys get recruited & picks  WATER BOYS to be Athlete of the week after his running back got over 300 yds! He’s arrogant & a waste of tax payers money!

    Not someone who shares half of your genetic material is it?

    I will continue to beat the crap out of this horse until they shut me up by winning some games and at the least making the playoffs.  If they can't stop me from speaking at the board meetings and other places, you or nobody else will stop me from talking about the matter on here...

    1.  Wilson was a viable candidate but wasn't even the best one in my opinion but he would have been better than what is currently in place...

    2.  Exactly, no skin in the game and they are still the ones making the calls.

    3.  The biggest mistake that THE POWERS made but hey, he'll have a full off-season now so that's one excuse that can't be used next year...

    1. Agreed

    2. Agreed

    3. I want to see how they look after a full offseason with the current staff in order to develop a complete opinion

    That’s the million dollar question!

    That dead horse has been beaten

    1) Lydell Wilson was told he had to keep coaches from the previous staffs and certain ones as coordinators

    2) Certain board members with no skin in the game were making those calls

    3) Once the decision to choose AL as the first coach was made, it was spun as a “he’s done this before” type deal

    Am I close?

  10. It’s safe to assume that this debate comes up for discussion every year around this time: Faircloth’s emphasis on offense vs a lack of defense. All things being equal, of course everyone would like to be superb at both.

    However, coaches have come and gone over the years, new schools have popped up around metro areas and the socio-economic landscape is ever changing all over the state. My question, as an uninvested party, is have any of the PNG faithful ever taken a look their own talent pool?

    Other than a once in a century athlete, most of the kids are your typical high school athlete. Some are bigger or faster than those in the their own class or school, but once a Marshall/College Station/Angleton come around - it’s the same story: Jimmy’s vs Joe’s.

    Just an outsider’s perspective, not an indictment on the athletic prowess of anyone’s kids.

  11. Who’d apply to be a 6A Head Football Coach and all that goes with it while only making $10,000 over base pay and teaching 2 classes?

    I would assume that the coach will be one of the lowest paid 6A Head Football Coaches, while being the only one teaching in the Greater Houston Area.

    My two cents

  12. I think I that will be Arthur Louis’ job as long as he wants it or until there are serious issues in terms of behavior/grades/etc. I assume he’s viewed as a stable presence that won’t rock the boat.

    Perhaps I’m incorrect, but it’s an outsiders perspective...
