South Dakota AD Not Happy With LU
TexasTerror replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Shame on Lamar... All indications are that they failed to properly notify South Dakota of their change of plans. Very SWAC-like. Prairie View A&M released a schedule after SHSU did and did not inform SHSU of the change. Did USD get caught off-guard? That's what I want to know and that is what if you read between the lines, occurred. If Lamar announced the schedule without telling South Dakota, they are in the wrong and there's no ifs, ands or buts about it. Have no problem with pulling out and paying the buyout, but that's a communication fallacy. -
I got you at 4-7, though 5-6 would not shock me... the SLC is going to be pretty balanced this year. I think NWST, McNeese and then SHSU are the top three teams in the league next year.. Langston University WIN at South Alabama LOSS Incarnate Word WIN at Southeastern La* WIN or LOSS (Lamar will drop one of two games in the 'Cajun Corner) Northwestern St.* LOSS at Texas St. LOSS C. Arkansas* WIN at Sam Houston St.* LOSS Stephen F. Austin* LOSS at Nicholls St.* WIN or LOSS (Lamar will drop one of two games in the 'Cajun Corner) McNeese St.* LOSS
So, are you saying he is not allowed to have a team goal of making the playoffs?
Allowed to have it, but with that schedule - league title = playoffs.
-
"The only thing is we're hoping the McNeese game won't be our last one. One of our team goals is to make the playoffs in our first year of eligibility." Only way to do that is winning the league title, Ray. Your OOC schedule is brutal with two quasi-FBS programs (USA, TXST) and two sub-Div I foes (Langston, UIW). Doubt you get seven Div I wins with it...

Lamar vs. Nicholls Updates..Lamar Wins/Comments
Wow, never saw that coming. Lamar SHUT DOWN Bose. Great, he's arrogant.
Remember - Fred Hunter is out. Completely changes the dynamic of the Nicholls offensive and defensive game plan. -
Lamar, SHS not primary WAC targets
I'm sure SHSU feels the same way. So I don't see how Lamar will be forcing SHSU hand in moving to another conference.
As I have said before - if Lamar and/or SFA leave, SHSU's hand is forced. We have to follow suit, because you guys are our academic peers (and certainly we do not want to be 'behind' schools academically that we look at as equals or below us academically) and additionally, we will be in a bind from a football-scheduling standpoint.
He is simply saying if the SLC loses 3 of its better members to FBS, then that leaves Sam in a bad conference that they won't want to be in. Therefore they would look to move into FBS to be in a competitive conference. That is how LU would force there hand
Namely due to the lack of football schools, but correct.
There is already talks with other schools about joining the SLC. I can't remember them right now but it is 3 or 4 schools and I believe they are DII, not sure.
Abilene Christian is the only sure thing. A charter SLC member who is committed. Football-wise, Tarleton State has made the effort before, but they are no longer in the position from what I hear. UT-Pan American and Houston Baptist both want in, but neither has ambitions for football.
I see your point as I wouldn't want Lamar left in the SLC if another school leaves. That would leave only 7 football member schools so they would probably look at a DII school to move up.
Correct and if it gets down to six, even worse! Plus, you have to wait for the Div II member to become a full Div I member.
According to Terror, LA budgets won't be as bad as we thought.
SLC is pushing UT-Arlington and A&M-CC to add football... Louisiana budgets are going to be as bad as we thought, just got put off a year by one-year solutions (i.e. selling off the prisons, etc.), so the budget cliff is forthcoming in 12-13. -
Lamar, SHS not primary WAC targets
TexasTerror replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
As I posed on KatFans... Which FBS schools? It should not be hard to figure out at this time. They are likely eying schools in the Sun Belt's far west - North Texas, Arkansas State and Louisiana-Lafayette. Why would any of those schools even bother? Karl's primary targets are in the Southland and Big Sky. Those are the only options for football schools. I just have a hard time seeing any of those SBC schools leaving for the WAC. They've been through the "Big West" experience and it was not pleasant for them. Nor would the WAC...
This article is padded with lies, along with the SLC commish. Think about it, if Lamar and SHSU weren't targets, why would Benson be in talks with the SLC?
Conference commissioners always talk and both Benson, Burnett have been around conference offices for some time. That does not surprise me... -

Since we are talking sources....
TexasTerror replied to HoopInsider_Cooper's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This seems to fall on Lamar if they got 'vetoed' by the NCAA... either that or Bob West does not understand how FCS works (would be no surprise) The NCAA rules do no state 57 players, but equivalencies equaling 57 full rides... being averaged over a two-year period. -
I'm hearing all sorts of things right now about the SLC and its current membership from very legitimate sources... Don't want to speculate on anything at this point. I'm just busy scratching my head! Good thing I've got hair, something UNLV can't speak to! ;)
He's just angry Sam is one of the worst schools in the state. The best thing about that place is that prisoners are locked up there.
One of the worst schools? You realize you just caught up with us as far as Carnegie ratings go. UNLV tried bragging about Lamar being one of 27 schools or so... only to find out SHSU was already waiting around for Lamar to catch up! ;)
Worry about your own program and leadership at SHSU. As you can see, there are no threads here or on BRI about the Kat's and their athletic programs.
Neither board particularly cares or covers the Southland...
I can promise you it there is a coaching change with the MBB team the leadership at Lamar will leave no stone uncovered.
Similar assessment of the football search?

Best part about Lamar coaching searches.. The fans' expectations are through the roof and we get to hear hyperbole of how many great coaches are interested in coming to Lamar... then we end up with another Ray Woodard-type, a guy with no head coaching experience at the Div I level, let alone the Div II level. Fantastic!

WAC might replace Hawaii with Texas school
La Tech forum is screaming angry about Lamar joining the WAC. It sicken them to have Lamar in the same conference with the great La Tech.
They are upset with the state of the WAC... They want out and quite frankly, don't blame them. They only want in C-USA and that is probably their only option, since they'd rather stay in the WAC than get in a league with UL-Monroe. -
I say that Terror is strangely silent these days and will not answer a direct question regarding Sam Houston's position regarding the WAC. I think maybe they are working in the background to get this going and slip in past LU while Puddin Tane convinces everyone its a bad move for LU. Then Terror going to have the last laugh and Puddin will help fullfill Terror's opinion of LU that we are bumbling fools.
What is there to say? I know what SHSU's position is on the WAC and FBS, as do many of the people that post on KatFans.com - though specifics about FBS are spoke in private only. The WAC is not a stable league and they need to add two more schools. Getting one only is a band-aid move, as two are truly needed to keep the league afloat. Getting SHSU and Lamar together would be a coup for stability. Does SHSU want that? We'll let UNLV figure that one out! -
Riley Dodge to visit Lamar this week

Good ole Bob West...
When LU’s current offensive coordinator Todd Whitten was in the running for the head coaching job at San Angleo State, LU head football coach Ray Woodard discussed the possibility he would have an opening with Todd. San Angelo State went another direction, so nothing materialized.
"San" has not been part of the name since 1965 when the school from San Angelo College to Angelo State. ;D -
Lynn Hickey, the UTSA AD, is still on the committee so we'll see how much pull she has. I would imagine Lamar would decline an invite it the WAC lost their auto-bid. Since the meetings are next week we won't have to wait much longer on a decision.
The committee does not make the decision... the NCAA states that they committee makes the recommendation to a higher-up governing body... My question is whether the committee submitted a favorable report to the higher-ups on the subject. -
A weak WAC makes it easier for Lamar to get in a ESPN Bowl game.
Not really... the WAC has lost almost every one of its bowl agreements. It will have one left with the remainder being secondary agreements.
In another thread Coachcola posted that the NCAA would determine in a few weeks if the WAC would keep its AQ to the BB tourney. Based on what would they loose it. Looking at the conference standings they currently have nine teams this year and even if they are loosing three they will be picking up two with TS-San Marc and UTSA. There are already AQ conferences with eight teams.
Based on the current rules, they would lose it... This has some more on it... Or perhaps in Jonesboro? It has to be on Arkansas turf - just ask Monroe about their home game... :D Waiting for you to own up to the fallacies of your previous statement... Perhaps Lamar can play Florida State in Miami, Fla. and call it a home game.... ;) -
Does Lamar have an open invite to join the WAC?
TexasTerror replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I have posted many example many times of AQ schools playing at Sunbelt and WAC schools.Monroe hosted Arkansas and Alabama. Monroe is a much smaller city than Beaumont. ULM is half Lamar size. So many of times I asked what Monroe offered to recieve a visit by AQ schools but Lamar would be unable to do? is it bribes? women? voodoo? Yet the only response is the same broken record, "Nobody will come to Beaumont." So it is not wishful thinking on my part, but rather extremely limited thinking on you all part.
UNLV... How many times do I have to tell you? ARKANSAS did not go to MONROE. They went to Little Rock! That was a ULM home game in LITTLE ROCK! ALABAMA never went to MONROE. Both the 2006 and 2007 games were in TUSCALOOSA! How long are you going to continue to use bad info? The funny thing... the top attended games for a Sun Belt school as far as conference or out of conference games? "Home games" played at neutral fields (i.e. Arkansas in Little Rock for ULM, Michigan State in Detroit for FAU) and FCS schools (McNeese, Southern at ULL, Grambling at ULM). Figure Lamar would be the same if they went FBS... a game against McNeese would outdraw games against Idaho, New Mexico State and Utah State. -
Uh, don't look now, but.......

Lamar is being talked about all over the interwebs as being the next targeted school... this is going to be wild! They are so desperate to survive and there are several schools a few years off (Lamar included) that may 'speed things up' because it may not get much better than this...
