1.
They had game notes for the Lamar/McNeese St. game....We receive them every Wednesday
They weren't available online... I read Georgia State's first game notes. I had temporarily forgot that Lamar had lots of good info from their first run of football. Wanted to see what a brand new set of game notes with no real information on previous history looked like. Also checked out Old Dominion and am seeking out Pacific (Ore.) - who started this year.
 2. After reviewing the notes, plenty of references to the first 'run' of the program. I need to see if I can pull up Georgia State and Old Dominion's first game notes!
 3. Have a copy of last week's? Just curious what a brand-new program would have!
 4.
Terror, I saw a quote in an article where one of the LU players sad after the McNeese game that LU had 20 more games before they played McNeese again, so someone thinks LU plays McNeese @ home the last game of 2011.  Looks like SELU already knows there 2011 conference schedule, why doesn't everyone else know?
Everyone else knows, but I have not seen an official schedule or information from anyone... I'd presume that LU v McNeese is the closer in '11. Believe that UCA has the bye week at the end of the year while SFA-NWST, TXST-SHSU, LU-McN and SLU-Nicholls match-up in years one and two of this new realignment. The bye week than shuffles...
 5. McNeese nets $$$ because they do not fully fund most of their sports and of course, most of the athletes pay part of their tuition. They do not have many full equivalency sports at McNeese nor do they around the SLC...
 6. FYI - SHSU's expected enrollment is in the vicinity of 17,200 range.
 7.
Many DII schools are better than the average FCS school. Ask UCA...
See looser academic restrictions... Football is one of the few Div II sports where there's not much disparity as far as scholarships are concerned. In most other sports, the discrepancy is minimal and in the low-major levels, the budget disparity (if any) is not great... I think Mississippi Valley State's current budget is No. 130 of the Div II schools. I'm sure most Div II schools fund their sports with more scholarships than that Div I school as well.
 8.
I don't like the FBS FCS stuff either and think the DI-AA and DI-A is more descriptive for the football subdivisions for DI.  But I understand why they changed the name.  To many people "out of the know" were getting DI-AA confused with Division II
Correct... and there's no question that the Southland, Missouri Valley, MEAC, Big Sky, etc. do not play Division II basketball, baseball, etc.  The FCS schools were being recruited against in non-football sports because they were referred to as Division II schools.
 9.
I was at the game and TT's comments are laughable.
If you read, those were not my comments... I stated, "I was asking around for opinion from both sides of the stands. I've read comments such as..." Those were posts on different boards pertaining to the Lamar-McNeese score. None of the remarks were my own. And bigred360 - as much as you'd like to say film was available, it really was not. McNeese could prep off what they know of Todd Whitten's offense and not much else. Everything else is fair game, but again - these were NOT my comments
 10. Lamar is not eligible for the postseason this year. Correct. Your schedule wouldn't lend to it anyway. You need to win seven Div I games (typically) to get consideration as an at-large. You've already missed out... As UNLV stated above, Lamar could make the playoffs next year. Being in the Southland will help since we have the automatic qualifier - one of 10 - that grant automatic entrance into the playoffs. There are also 10 at-large spots. The question for Lamar is what is your schedule in '11? I know you got the FBS game, but you probably want to stray away from sub-Div I or more than one FBS games. The more chances you have at getting 8 or 9 Div I wins, the better. Do that, your "dancing"... As far as this particular national ranking, I voted in the Sports Network (media) poll for two years. This is no slam on Lamar, since I did this when their preseason poll came out - but the quality of voter must have dropped tremendously. I think 80+ of the 115 or so FCS teams got preseason votes in the preseason poll. Several teams that did not win a game against a Division I opponent (including Northwestern State) received votes. Was Lamar deserving of a vote? Tough to say. You were not in my top 25 ballot for another poll, but looking at the national polls, the voters were confused who to back! But, I am not impressed with the Sports Network poll's voters. I just think there's too much bias involved, because how else would all these 0 and 1 loss teams get votes. Heck, I think the whole SLC got votes except Sam Houston State in the preseason (not sure how Nicholls or NWST did - that's for sure) and even most, if not ALL of the SWAC did! That's a crime! Those who have seen SWAC football can testify...
 11.
That said...when I said DI, I meant FBS..I just don't like the whole FBS, FCS crap. Lamar is, for all intent and purposes, still a DI-AA school, not DI (regardless of whether it's called FCS or DI-AA...you know what I mean). I'm still living in the past on that one...ha! And waiting for the day the BCS collapses (it's coming) and we return to the original labels.
At least, keep in mind that Lamar is (or will be) eligible for the NCAA Division I national championship in football as a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The same can not be said for the Texas, USC, Florida, LSU type schools who compete solely for a crystal ball, not recognized by the NCAA. ;)
UL-Monroe was making 50k in profits after FBS...Let me be clear, the whole athletic program.
ULM's athletic program has completely fallen off since taking all their sports to the Sun Belt. They finished dead last in the Vic Bubas Cup for all-around sports performance of schools and have since their arrival (amongst schools that compete in the full allotment of SBC sports). Their budget would not be tops in the SLC and I figure, they'd struggle to compete in the SLC on a consistent basis nowadays as well... Your men's basketball program is already in the dumps at Lamar compared to where you would like it to be. If you think it is bad now, a move to an FBS conference would probably put to bed any chance the Cards had at building a respectable program again, even by mid-major standards. Just my opinion...
 12. Did not attend... I was asking around for opinion from both sides of the stands. I've read comments such as... "This was Lamar's Super Bowl" "Lamar had two years to prepare while McNeese had nothing on the Cards and was unable to adjust" "Andre Bevil is the real deal and would be one of the top quarterbacks in the league this year." "McNeese blew several early opportunities that would have put the game out of question in the first half." "McNeese ran a 'vanilla' offense with only about five plays, not wanting to show anything" FYI, coachacola - SLU's Beatty is out 1-3 weeks due to an MCL injury. That's going to be trouble for them. Beatty will probably not be available for the LU game... It is just one game, but I am more optimistic about Lamar's results against Div I competition. Could be 2-2 or 3-1 heading into the SHSU game. The most intriguing game may be that South Alabama game at home on Oct. 16. The Jaguars are a very good team.
 13.
I am sure Dr. Simmons & Tidwell understand these requirements and are putting together a strategic plan.  Looks like 5/25/2011 is when will will submit our application.
Is that a date you just pulled out of a thin air? Curious...
 14. Keep in mind there are several by-law changes in the current legislative calendar... These hold now, but some of them are in the midst of changing - hence, the issues UTSA is facing as it relates to finding a conference.
 15.
TexasTerror, I didn't think you liked our schedule. Now you are stating "the Cards actually have one of the better schedules of a start-up program".
I do not like the fact you guys are entering the SLC in '11. The schedule is not surprising or much of a stretch by any means. I've probably defended your schedule more than berated it, especially with some of the negative folks like UNLV who prefer to run Lamar into the ground...
 16.
All of which is better than home vs langston...
You do realize this is year one of the Lamar program? You do realize the Cards actually have one of the better schedules of a start-up program?  ??? Go back to the MWC... you obviously can't keep track of the Red Birds!
 17.
La tech home and home with BYU, UNT home with K-st, ULM home Arkansas, ull OK st...Mcneese...cal poly....LOL.. now go hide your face...
Wasn't that ULM "home game" against Arkansas in Little Rock, Arkansas? That sounds great! UNLV would probably love to host Southern Cal in San Diego, eh? ULL got Oklahoma State, but wasn't it a 2-for-1? That stinks. Doubt TXST does as well as UTSA as far as scheduling.
 18.
I know the belief is that LU has built up on distance runners and it has "hurt" them in the indoor/outdoor season, but that was only true a few years back. They have continually gotten better in all aspects of the "running sports", not just cross country. They have dominated the cross country side and have been very competitive. In 2007, 08 and 09 they finished fourth in the indoor season, in that same time they were dominating CC. Yes, the outdoor track season has not been quite as impressive, but that is mainly because Lu doesn't have the numbers in the jumps & throws that many of the other schools have. I think that will begin to change a little now that football is on campus, but you never know for sure. Point is, the Cards are producing better than one might think at first glance.
Indoor season has less emphasis on the field events, if you ask me. SHSU loses significant points there and is stronger outdoors... And even with Lamar putting more $$$ into the distance runners, they still have a significant funding advantage over most of the SLC in T&F. It should be no surprise that any TX schools in the top five, six in indoor track. You are getting worked up about being "competive" and #4. Outside of the job SLU has done, don't think the other schools have a legitimate shot from outside of Texas. That's not saying much...
 19. Anyone find a copy of LU game notes? Did I miss them on the web site? Gracias!
 20. The SLC has always ranked well in XC... You've got to remember how it (and track and field) is funded by many schools in this region - not well at all. A few schools fully fund the sport, but others do not... Over the last 5-10 years, Lamar has put most of their T&F scholarship money into the distance runners, which has put them on the top of XC and hurt them in the indoor/outdoor season.
 21.
In 10 years this will change radically.  LU will either move up significantly or be a FBS school by then.
The Sun Belt and MAC are considered mid-majors as are in some cases, C-USA and the WAC. You'll still be a mid-major.
 22. Add SFA... that's two teams higher than Lamar with SHSU likely to join. Lamar #72 Northwestern State #66 SFA #61
 23.
I remember that there was post on here earlier this year before the big confernce shakeup where some pundit was looking at, i think the Sun Belt and was projecting Lamar to move in it.  The article I think said that a minimum enrollment figure for the conference was 16k.  Looks like LU is well on its way.  This is really good news for LU and for Beaumont to see stong growth.
The conference does not have a minimum enrollment figure! If it does, ULM needs to go! They have under 9,000 students. UALR needs to be shown the door as well as Denver and Arkansas State...
 24. At the Aug. 24 Cowboy Club meeting per Geaux Cowboys, Lamar has sold 1,300 tickets to the game against McNeese State and the school just received 1,000 more tickets... McNeese will open the hill at their stadium if sell out.
