1. The top team, by far and away... SHSU SLC Schools 72. Lamar (38 points) 66. Northwestern State (42 points) 61. Stephen F. Austin (45 points) 44. Texas A&M-CC (51 points) 29. Sam Houston State (67 points)
2. Outside of enjoying all the remarks regarding "beautiful Beaumont" on the radio, I did learn one thing... Todd Whitten may be the OC, but Ray Woodard is using the same offensive schemes that are found in the Arena League. Is Bevil really trying to find the end zone on each pass? Guessing Woodard picked that up during his stint with the TEXAS TERROR! ;) SHSU is as young, if not younger at the skill positions than Lamar. Tons of freshmen and sophomores getting playing time, particularly at skill positions. Woodard's recruiting skills have been in question since the beginning and his team got outplayed by a true freshman at QB, a redshirt freshman at RB and another redshirt freshman at punter (had to include it, special teams made an OBVIOUS difference). Bevil was under pressure by mostly freshman and sophomores all night. We start two underclassmen along our front four with five of eight on the two-deep on the line being FR or SO. Really excited about the future. This game along with Gardner-Webb was another step in building confidence for our young team. Nicholls is next, so another step forward hopefully.
3. Southern Utah has reached out to the Southland per USA Today as a possible football-only affiliate member, in light of the changes to the Great West.
4.
Just curious if your source said anything else like... not right now but later or looking at different conference? If Denver goes to the WAC then there is another opening in the Sunbelt etc
The SBC would have to decide on what it wants to do... Does it ask UALR to leave and go all football members? Does it add a non-basketball member for a nice 10, 12 setup. Wonder if that member would be Oral Roberts? An established school with some track record in hoops - may prefer Sun Belt to get into recruiting spots of Texas and Florida compared to Summit League.
5.
I guess you are waiting until Saturday night before you weigh in on the SFA route.  I have to admit you are using discretion.  I assume we will here from you in full force if Sam wins the game.  I'll say it now that I think we still have a very good chance of winning.  We will just have see how the QB situation progresses during the week.
I'm not convinced SHSU wins... I picked Lamar on AGS and think the Cards will be looking to get a positive result after this past weekend's fiasco. SHSU is not going to score many points unless our game plan thwarts Bevil... If SHSU gets ahead, they just need to do what has worked - run the ball very efficiently and take the T.O.P. battle.
6.
TT you going to Reliant on the 23rd to watch your Kats get donkey stomped by SFA?
Nope have to work a tournament here in NOLA the day before... Figuring out my availability for SHSU @ Nicholls and McNeese @ SHSU.
7. FYI - Invite Cards to participate... [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content]
8. UNLV.. You do realize the study that NT released THIS WEEK included something saying the WAC may not be around much longer and that the school would be BETTER OFF in the Sun Belt! You are absolutely foolish in thinking NT will be going to the WAC. Then again, you've been absolutely foolish from day one. My friend's UNLV doctoral degree loses value with each post you make. Come on man - face the facts!
9. Just an FYI... good thing they are not playing a fellow purple team like NWST, Tarleton State. Of course, SFA's secondary color is red - but if everyone is wearing purple for them, it won't be bad!
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Lumberjack football fans will be treated to something new when Stephen F. Austin hosts Lamar at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Homer Bryce Stadium. SFA students are gearing up and setting the date to cast a sea of purple on both sides of the gridiron when the visiting Cardinals come to town. Normally a tradition in basketball, the annual `Purple Out' promotion has taken center stage in football on Parents' Day this year.
[Hidden Content]
10. It was suggested on the TXST fan board (by a fan who had ESPN contacts tell him something that was already out in the San Antonio media four days after the fact), that Lamar will be presenting at the WAC meetings next week in Dallas... Any one that can confirm? A shot in the dark perhaps?
11. I tried voting for you last week in AGS, was rejected... Do not hold a TSN vote this year as I have in years past. If you keep SFA tight, I doubt you get the additional votes. You'd be 1-2 against Div I competition and that weighs heavy and let's keep in mind that McNeese is faltering, so that win has lost some luster.
12.
I think we will have a lot of success against "west division" football teams, especially Oct 2nd!
Wouldn't surprise me... Unless the SHSU defense shows me otherwise between now and then, I'm predicting Bevil at 375 yards and Hayes at 150.
13. Is UNLV even a Lamar fan? At least my name has a bit more to do with the Lamar Cardinals - afterall, Ray Woodard was a Texas Terror coach! ;)
14. Lamar was not accessible for my top 25 ballot on AGS... Trying to get you guys a vote! ;)
15. Impressive win by the Cards. With or without Beatty, Lamar still went into Hammond and defeated a Lions' team that will be favored (if not in the top two) when Beatty returns from injury. That is a good win - regardless of Beatty's status. You still got Yarbourough, Connors and a host of other solid players that will get All-SLC accolades at year's end. While I think Ray Woodard's strategy of loading up on JUCOs at a rate not seen and lacks long-term thinking, his recruiting methods have paid immediate dividends for the program based on the near victory over McNeese and the comeback against SLU. I am not certain this is a team that can win week to week at this point in their growth with consistent play (see the game against Webber Int'l where the team did not play well at all), but they have made quick steps. Bevil. Hayes. One of the top QB/WR combos in the FCS next year when Lamar is competing for SLC title, NCAA auto bid? You betcha! I hope Woodard did a great job scheduling for '11. The Cards need to start thinking about the playoffs - hit the Jim More You Tube video! ;)
16.
Based on the past six years, I am shocked we are even ranked.
Remember - you guys have had some success when playing in the SLC East.
17. Probably one more SLC team to come - SHSU! ;) Lamar #72 Northwestern State #66 SFA #61 Texas A&M-CC #44
18. For comparison's sake - anyone have the enrollments from say...10 years ago? 2000?
19.
How did this happen with attendance for Georgia State? TexasTerror was always stating they did so much better advertising their startup football program and Lamar was missing the boat is that area always attacking our SID.  ::)
Promotion of their university... getting the name recognition nationally and utilizing the resources available to generate publicity (instead of forcing fans to rely on the local newspapers to do it). There is a difference between advertising and promotions and public relations of a program.
20. RoyalLions responded on AGS to my inquiry... see his opinions on the team's effort against UTM, which was a solid win for them...
He probably could have played this week had it been a conference game of significance (aren't they all?!) or a playoff game...my understanding is he may be ready to go this week, but may or may not start...he'll definitely be ready for ULM. As for whether we'll need him more this week than last, I dunno...UTM was pretty solid, and better than some teams in our league IMO...we didn't play well in the second half, and Young missed a ton of wide open receivers, but I thought we beat a solid, well-coached football team with considerably less than our best effort, and with a backup QB taking his first collegiate snaps.
21. I love going to game in Hammond at Strawberry Stadium... Environment has improved over the last few years and the stadium has been upgraded as well (nice press box - good Jambalaya!). I've always thought the folks (from fans to administrators to 'security') in Hammond are the nicest and most pleasurable to be around. No slam on McFolks, who are good and most knowledgeable...
22. My ] includes the following... 1) Ole Miss, SEC (Jacksonville State 49-48, 2 OT) 2) Kansas, Big 12 (NDSU 6-3) 3) Akron, Mid-American (Gardner-Webb 38-37, OT) 4) Minnesota, Big 10 (South Dakota 41-38) 5) #13 Virginia Tech, ACC (James Madison 21-16)
23.
The big name schools like Tech,ULL, UNT, UL-Monroe are playing home games against Arkansas, BYU, Okie st, K-st.
When did ULM ever host a home game against any of those schools? Their best (and most successful) home game was against Grambling. Funny thing - same can be said for ULL. Most successful home games against Southern and McNeese!
24. FYI... Beatty completes changes the Lamar game plan and more than likely, the outcome of the game - if 100%.
Realizing Beatty was likely out for Saturday’s home opener with Tennessee-Martin, Lucas said after the game, “We’ll get B.J. Young ready to play.” By his Tuesday news conference, Lucas was talking about his starting quarterback, Brian Young. B.J. apparently stands for Brian Jr. and is an old family nickname that they would like to put aside. “I think his parents like … Brian,” Lucas said of the Hahnville product. Beatty could be back next week, when the Lions host Lamar.
[Hidden Content]
