I thought Nederland had a great crowd, until the rains came.  but i dont blame them for leaving...that rain was coming down pretty good...WOS fans left too...unfortunately it wasn't much of a game...i think if it would have been a closer scoring game, more people would have stayed...jmo...

If you knew the kids on this team then you would understand that they don't need a Coach to keep them from getting the "big head". They just aren't and never have been those type of kids. I do like your prediction!

Don't count Nederland out. This happens just about every year (though not with such a lopsided score): Nederland loses a game, or two, or three, and PNG fans start licking their chops. It's stupid. Coach Neumann uses these games to be instructive experiences. I am no fan of Nederland, but it takes a great coach to know how to put his team in a humble-pie situation and then turn it into a learning experience that translates into district championships. Maybe Nederland will be good this year. Maybe they won't. But a lopsided PNG win against Silsbee on the same night that Nederland got ripped into by a great WO-S team means absolutely nothing when Mid-County Madness comes. We all remember 2014 when PNG had all the pieces in place, while Nederland started the season 0-3. It was supposed to be our year. And we all remember losing a heartbreaker to what I believe was an inferior team, overall. None of it mattered when it came time to play the game. Nederland will be fine. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat PNG again this year. In any case, nothing that happened tonight will have any bearing whatsoever. Go Indians, but let's keep things in a proper perspective. That being said, I am very excited for what Roschon Johnson, his offense, and that Land Shark defense were able to do tonight. Hope they keep it up.

Nederland is always tough regardless when they play W0-S.They may start out slow but seem to get things togather by mid season. If they have a poor showing ( which I doubt they will ) you other teams better not hang your hat on that.I expect a WO-S win but hard fought non the less.

It's about team not individuals, just look at the teams that are successful. There is a blue print for success.

I know at least in the past many schools used the same jerseys for several years...names on them wouldn't allow this.

PNG has used the scoreboard in the past during scrimmages. I have shots of it from last year against West Brook. Sometimes it's just the number of TD's, or in live portion it's the actual score. I joked tonight when WOS scored that it will stay blank tonight....and it did lol. Even funnier was later in the first half MUSTANGS was completely taken off the board on the visitor side.

Pakronos, just to inform you.  Gabe is really there for the kids.  Even outside of work, I be talked to him.  He really cares more than you think about Memorial and the kids.  Check FB.  He had a personal relationship with PAM's star Martin and other players.  Talk to him off the record.  He genuinely cares.

BG  like the article said it is all sports. It has been slowly coming to this point over the last 5-7 years. Jobs are not as lenient as they once were and folks work more hours also. In the past you always had a pool of guys that were retired and could travel and go to games that start early. People don't retire as young as they once did. I also think that many young officials think that in just a couple of years they are going to be officiating the top games and when they find out how much time and work is required they lose interest. For Football I think that with the exception of sub varsity games, it is limited how many Varsity games you get especially when coaches pick which I am all in favor of. In Houston you could have a top notch crew that calls Thursday, Friday and Saturday while others may call once or even none for a week. Not for sure if this will ever turn around. More money is nice but that will only bring out the folks who only want to do it for money and not the game. Respect has also been lost for all parties.Coaches, Fans, Players and even Officials. Something has to change.

It all comes down to cash. Long ago (pre children) I decided I was going to make some extra money by refereeing basketball games in the triangle. I attended some meetings, paid dues, bought gear, and got started. I refereed one summer league warm up tournament and quickly decided the headache wasn't worth the measly money they were paying. The parents, players, and coaches were unbelievably hard to deal with, but not as hard to deal with as the other referees. This was set up to be a training ground for new refs, so they paired us with other more experienced officials to help us learn. I was paired up with a guy who was a state trooper for a living, but had carved out a pretty good reputation as an official in SETX. This guy was unbearable. He had no interest in teaching, rather his agenda was for me to realize he was a better official than I would ever be. I have pretty thick skin, but I left that night and made the decision that I would never do that again.
So to summarize, I was going to be paid peanuts to deal with screaming parents, kids, coaches and officials. No thanks. They need to up the pay, and ensure that those who might be interested are not treated as freshmen trying to join a fraternity. It's up to the UIL to figure out the money issue, and TASO to figure out the assimilation issue.
