The main problem is, many parents can't see that their kid is not college football material and they are dumbfounded when their child doesn't get a scholarship. It's not always a "lack of promotion by coaches" issue, it's a "my kid isn't good enough" problem.

When the coaching staff was meeting at the beginning of the season and contemplating expectations for the team with a freshman QB, they were not thinking "9 wins and 2nd round" and neither would any coach in Texas. They most certainly were not thinking "we can win 5 games with our backup LG at QB".
In fact., if someone told them "you will win 9 games with a freshman QB" they would have likely went and had a party.

Never said he couldn't be a great player. I agree he has great potential. But let's don't get ahead of ourselves. I don't think its fair to him and all involved  to label him great.
Of course, one's definition of great differs from others.

You are also savvy enough to know he was a standout player as a Freshman, with the potential to develop into a great player. That is all anyone is saying here. Any illusions that he is the next coming of Matthew Stafford are exaggerations being made by those who clearly are rooting for the kid to fail (not referring to you). Kinda pathetic if you ask me.

"Daddy ball" dont put up the numbers that the Barrier kid put up. EVERY coach that reads this fully understands what the kid has done and that he is a great player.

It is highly uncommon for a freshman to start at QB at any level. It is also uncommon for freshman to start on varsity as freshman in other positions. You should do a roster check and see what the percentage of "freshman starting and winning on varsity" is for the area. I suspect it be in the range of 3-6% at 3A and close to zero in 4A.
If you believe a "backup left guard" can play QB and go .500, you have revealed your own ignorance regarding football. We can let everyone else read your comments and draw their own conclusions.

He had 9 "signature wins" last year because he was a freshman starting on varsity. Winning 9 games with a freshman QB is impressive (with no qualifiers). I doubt if anyone of the teams he played against had a "freshman QB". Name all of the freshman QBs that have won more than 9 games as a starter. I suspect he will be a starter at whatever school he lands at and it will not matter what classification.

Or what is most likely, he will be great anywhere he plays. All of that rhetoric about "what he did" or "didnt do" was done by a "Freshman on varsity". For a freshman to perform at that rate on varsity at any level is exceedingly impressive. He is a "player" and will only get better as he matures. Wherever he lands will be set at QB including 1A-6A.

I did see him play in person (vs. Newton) and I did speak with him and his mom in the upper suite level of AT&T during the Championships. They were hanging out with Todd Dodge. He did have a stellar year in the local 3A. Period. No one can or is debating that. What should be kept in mind though it was done in a very weak 3A district. Look at who they lost to, non district D-2 Newton, Orangefield (tough but not overly athletic), and then they were creamed by Franklin. They beat 4-7 Buna by just 13 points. Orangefield and Anahuac won one playoff game, EC and Buna lost in first round. Weak district. There are no signature wins that I can see he has. Also, Anahuac had an athletic, well coached team team around him with good recievers to throw to. That makes a QB's job a lot easier.
Put him in Nederland or simular and things could go badly for him, even if he plays well. If they just "have" to leave Anahuac then I hope he lands with a good team that has talent all around him, and there is no OC coaching drama involved. He could still have an incredible three years ahead in Anahuac with potential deeper runs, or he could struggle elsewhere. Sometimes the very best move is one you never make...

Now you are just talking out of your arse. If you watched Anahuac at all last year, you would've seen a noticeable uptick in passing attempts to the year prior. Neece clearly retooled his offense to build it around the QB and the athletes at his disposal. Try not to let your nephew's disappointment cause the truth to be blurred.

I have been reading this thread for a few days as an guest and alot of the comments got things right. Not sure of their sources but I have ties to people who work with the coach. I have been told by people who work there that he didn't leave "a couple times" like the article says. He was gone for hours at a time multiple days and nobody could find him. At least 2 weeks as far as they could count.  Alot of good people were stuck picking up the slack while he was out slinging snow. I work at a plant and I know he was there at least 6 days in the middle of the school day. One source says the ice machine near the coach's office was strangely low on ice during those days.
Don't know many places where you can work but you can leave your job while still getting paid and go do a side hustle for large portions of the work day. No problem with teachers and coaches having a side gig, Lord knows they don't get paid much anyways. But we want teachers to be accountable, so coaches and especially their leader should be held accountable too. Just my two cents, but if this was about wins and losses I think they would have made a decision earlier. Whoever does take the job will have a good group of assistants. Hope he lets them stay on.

    "So what happened?
Besides the 5-15 start, Coach McGuire purchased a mobile sno-cone truck and called it Coach’s Cones earlier this spring. It didn’t sit well with some BC brass. Some felt the AD/HFC position is a full time position.
“I was asked to resign,” McGuire told KOGT. “They didn’t like that I left during school a couple of times to sell sno-cones.”

I hear you, and what you are saying is true, but there was also a significant speed and talent difference between Hardin 8th grade football and 3A varsity football, and he navigated that pretty well. Let's just wait and see before we start to bury the kid on this board. I like the conversations also, but I can't help but think about the potential of the kid in question reading these posts and how that might affect him. We all love this sport and are passionate about our teams, but we are also all passionate about supporting all kids from SETX to succeed on every night except the one when they oppose our city! lol. Good luck Coach and Son. We're all rooting for your success.

A coach/father's first duty is to his family. It is likely that he could find a situation where he can combine the two objectives if he does his homework. If the father/coach were to seek the "absolute best" opportunity for his son and it did not happen to be his first choice for himself, it would certainly be noble and valid to put his son first and then seek his best place at a later date. It would not be uncommon for him to be able to accomplish both objectives in one shot.

Coaches do develop relationships with the college ranks. Coaches also lobby on behalf of the players so long as the player has no character deficiency that would make the coach look bad. If a player is not getting recruited is usually because the player's behavior is not worth the risk to the coach. As stated previously, the coaches see the kids everyday and in many cases, spend more time with the players than the parents do.
I wish I had a nickel for every player that could have played college ball but acted the fool at school and practice and as a result went nowhere. Meanwhile, the parents and community could not understand why the player "did not get support from the coaches" or "why he was not recruited".

I have a question. My kid doesn’t play football so I only know the recruiting process for other sports. For my kid, it’s pretty much all on her to contact schools, send videos, build those relationships, and do the work to get recruited. Is it not the same for football? Doesn’t Crosby football have tons of college coaches out every spring to watch the boys not to mention all the press that football gets compared to other sports. What exactly do y’all expect the coaches to do? Just curious.

Yep, "MS coaches only let certain kids tryout for certain positions" and kids get "discouraged" because they and their parents know more than the coaches who are hired/managed by the AD/HFC who also doesnt know anything because he actually runs the MS program. MS coaches operating on behalf of the AD/HFC "do not regard skills" but instead look for "height".
