It’s all a different recruiting landscape.  Lamar has very little NIL money so they are going to have to find diamond in the rough types.  Hamilton is their big and he’s one of their best players.  Holyfield is also very long and is arguably their best player (but he prefers playing the perimeter).  Guys like Shumate of McNeese (the best big in the conference) is only there because they can afford to pay him high mid major money.

That all makes sense. As long as Wade is at McNeese, he'll get players. Most teams have height. I just wish they'd find a guy that has some baby fat on him that can move people and play in the paint.

Lamar had a flat one last night in SA vs Incarnate Word.  Good news is SELA also lost, at home vs Northwestern, to leave the Cards a game clear alone in second.  Bad news is if they had one, it would have give them a one game cushion which would have allowed them to split the final two at home vs McNeese and Nicholls and still have the byes all the way into the semis at the conference tournament.

You would know a lot more about this than I do, so here goes. How hard is it to find a bully like James Gulley? It seems to me that someone like him that you could depend on inside would make them a lot better.

When a game between two local towns gets shut down for a few years because of a massive brawl, then that is a rivalry.

Jasper/Silsbee started it's rivalry in 1922 but put it on hiatus for several years later in the 20's because of a big fight during a game in '24. Didn't start back playing each other till '32

As a child, Jasper was the only rivalry I knew.

The intensity of our games makes it fun, probably because I didn't have to roll anybody. I was a trainer in my time at JHS and those games were throw downs. It was the same with WOS, but they've been just as big a rival since they joined 4A in '86.

trust me I really like  CC. that said as jasper fans the mere thought of (whether we are one and done or not) finishing behind Shepherd or Tarkington with no playoffs taste absolutely horrible.  lol.

this will be the 81st time we have played the striped cats. (for me it is weird not playing the last game of regular season).

the days of the early 80s  what a blessing! Damn Willowridge and that future HOF er.

    GO DAWGS GO!

Yup. Unfortunately, he remembered his helmet when he played us. 🤣

/he average life is 8-10 years depending on the foot traffic. it's hard to believe we have already played 8 seasons in the new stadium don't you think?(well 7 full seasons and 1 game in 2016 because of delays finishing it) time be blowing by.

    GO DAWGS GO!

It goes a lot faster the older we get, brother. Every game against Silsbee reminds me of the first one I went to ('83 when we won 24-0 in Jasper). Gotta get this one...

this will be the last Bulldog Varsity game played on the original turf in the DAWG HOUSE. New is turf is scheduled to be put down after the season. will be kinda like HJ turf looks with dark&light strips alternating.

    GO DAWGS!

That's a good thing. They wore out that original turf pretty fast from what I could tell.

  7. Lots of good games this year. Who's returning for us? Will there be any big scheme changes?

    9/13 Lumberton

    9/20 @Beaumont United

    9/27 @Carthage

This whole thread seems odd to me. We have a ex coach wanting someone to say they were better than what you have now. I think coach Crum is doing a outstanding job and definitely doing a better job of recruiting players to college than the last Regime.... But this is only my opinion

I think he's done more to get kids those opportunities than anybody we've ever had.

It has been working in Newton.

If Crumedy eventually has bigger aspirations than being in Jasper, every aspect of the program will be looked at when someone interviews him for any job. He knows that. The mindset needs to be that any time someone wears a Jasper uniform, that they're doing everything they possibly can to win. It matters.

  10. I'll chime in briefly on this from the perspective of a 50 year-old that saw what it used to be like in Jasper. Our athletes (even the iffy ones like me) played everything that they possibly could and we won a lot because of it. When you have these kids specializing, it limits what their bodies can do. Different sports require different lifting, training, etc., it increases athleticism and range of motion in general. We've got to get kids out of the house and doing all this stuff. Not only would Jasper get back on track, but it would help everyone else, too. I just don't know how we get out of the rabbit hole that they've gone into.
