Hitchcock 65 Silsbee 78/FINAL
Tigers94 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Boys Basketball
JV just started the 3rd quarter. Silsbee only has about 12 kids between their freshman and JV teams. What in the world is going on? Are grades that bad? Even some kids are missing on varsity that were there. -
96 - 32 was the final.
-
What happened to the big tight end that played center for Jasper? He's not playing basketball this year? They'd only be losing by 25 or 30 if he were playing. Silsbee needs to rest their starters for Hitchcock tomorrow.

It feels like torture having to watch Jasper try and play basketball.

Hudl should have it. [Hidden Content]

McCain should perhaps get a mention just for the way he played in the Dallas Carter game. Looks like Silsbee might be without their freshman PG for a bit. Hope it's nothing serious.

Marquee Games for this week, Dec. 30-Jan. 4

Not sure if I want to go to the Hitchcock game or Jasper or both. Silsbee should slay Jasper, but I'd like to get a good eye on the Tiger freshman and JV squads, which I assume will also be playing. Like Silsbee, Hitchcock was missing key players early on to football. I wouldn't put too much weight behind their early losses. Also like Silsbee, they seem to be having some problems with injuries and are struggling more than you might expect. They're almost like a 3A version of us right now. I'd say it's a coin toss, but I'll favor the Tigers if they all show up and play well. -
He's probably about 6'5 or 6'6 right now. He is a freshman. He really needs a year to develop before he's ready for serious playing time. If he can grow another inch or two and get a little stronger and quicker by next year, that'll be great. Him and our freshman point guard could help a lot next year. I think the PG should be playing more right now. Give it 2 or 3 years. I would say 2 years, but that might be wishful thinking. There's lots of talent in the pipeline at Silsbee. What people are seeing right now won't last or become the new normal for very long. I think the final in the Grand Oaks game was 68 - 56. That's a lot closer than I thought it'd be.

I've said this before, but Sisbee's biggest problem is they lost 50-60 points per game (Harris/Miller/Bottley/Elam) to graduation last year. They haven't been able to make up for it this year consistently. Teams know they can focus on Peyton, and if nobody else can do anything, it'll go bad for the Tigers. There's other problems too, but I'll leave it off of these forums.

Are there any serious threats this year? Vidor seems to be pretty solid. West Orange can sometimes give us trouble, whether it makes sense or not. These next two years are the down years for Silsbee (by Tiger standards) as far as I'm concerned. If anybody wants to sneak in a district win, that'll be the time to do it.
-
Shoulders made five or six 3 pointers. He probably finished with 20+ points for the game. If we can get something close to that out of him consistently, they'd be great. Everybody for Silsbee went cold in the second half. That can't keep happening.

Payton is cold right now. These other kids need to step up and close the game out.

Tigers up 44 - 29 at the half

It seems like Johnson may get to play this year after all. -

Call me being picky, but I'd like to see us average in the 90s against teams like Lumberton. We lost a lot of scoring to graduation last year, and it needs to be at least partially made up with consistency. Any good team will beat Silsbee if we can't reliably get it from kids not named Payton.
