I think the "x-factor" players in this game are: Jayvon Thomas & Billy Walton for SOC and Shea Adams for PNG.

I've been talking about that Adams kid since the start of the season. If PNG wins it wouldn't be surprising if he made the clinching play, vice versa with the 2 studs for SOC I named.

I have tried to explain a million times. It’s not arrogance, cockiness, or disrespect. It’s simply SWAG. I started out my school days on an election year. The teachers gave us a choice to be republican, democrat, or independent. I chose Independent simply because it allowed me to wear an I on my shirt all day, of course it was crayoned purple. It’s said we are taught Cherokee day 1. That’s actually a myth, we all knew it by heart before the alphabet. Most will never understand, I have even heard of us being called the “The Purple Cult”… once again, it’s just misunderstood. Ironically, our rivals understand it the best. That’s why you see all of mid county supporting our games. I grew up in the 80s, hearing about the 70s, in a time we were led by a great guy, just not a good coach. That all changed in 89. In came Danny Malone. And he brought that SWAG back, Burnett carried it on, Fairclothe carried the torch, now Joseph continues the tradition. So what started out as playing football at recess, dreaming of being an Indian, ends with a shot at a SC this Friday. We are no longer a powerhouse, we are not a place people want to move or transfer to, we are just PNG Indians. Not the biggest, fastest, or strongest. Just a team playing with heart and support. These kids are dogs, they come to play and don’t quit. Always the underdog, yet playing week 16. A proud community, wanting a SC and that attendance record back. So for all of you who don’t understand us, we don’t expect you too. But we will say this, come be part of the family Friday night. You won’t regret the experience. A big joke on this board is ATMOSPHERE…. Come be part of it Friday, and make history. You won’t regret it. No matter what team or color you represent or bleed, we are one big ole family this Friday. Peace…. love…..

Most talented part of the country IMO.   Throw in SOC and Cedar Hill which are very close.
Couple that with loose restrictions on where kids go to school, or even worse, people turning a blind eye to where kids go to school, and you have loaded rosters.

Wouldn't be surprised if PNG wins State and their HC and/or DC bolts to Katy if Daddy Joseph retires his post at Katy. Just saying. #txhsfbplayoffs #txhsfb

SOC will have an elite defense, and a subpar offense.    If PNG can eliminate the big play, they can win.   They won’t score much against SOC.   SOC will be very fast and physical.   IMO, they are very sound on defense.   Couple that with great players and lots of speed, and they will be tough.
On offense, SOC is  it very good.  Huge up front.   College sized kids, but over weight, and lazy.   Their QB is not very good either, but at any point, with their speed, they can make a house call.

Listening to the guys from Austin, Westlake lost their starting QB, three Olinemen, and that WR was playing hurt.  I don't know if it's a testiment to Westlake's depth and or the weakness of the region overall......

I would think just being the son of Gary Joseph would be enough pressure. Hall of fame expectations. Im sure his dad will be there for questions. Im sure Todd would be there to advertise his business on recruiting coaches.  now every school will go through him to get a great coach!😜

Holding Liberty Hill to 14 pts, regardless of their running back situation is highly impressive.    I figured PNG would score, but not stop LH.
For Joseph and staff to change the mindset and culture of the team and program in one year is amazing.

Holding a spread team with crazy athletes like FBM one week, and then best slot-T team in the state the next, is hard to do.   Great effort by PNG.
Any year the last 15 years, Liberty Hill woulda scored over 35 pts.

SOC is immensely talented.    Their QB is suspect, and all those huge kids on the offensive line are horrible.   But when you are that big, all you have to do is lean on kids, and that’s about all they do.
Pretty lazy bunch up front for SOC.

    FBM was 2nd
    Liberty Hill was 3rd.
not to mention how many ranked teams FBM and LH knocked off this playoff run.

Fellas, Silsbee was two games away from the title game and lost to a very very good Cuero team. That is a great success in 99.9% of the programs in the state. When you get to that level, the little things tend to rear their heads and cause teams to lose. Discipline, heart and experience usually tend to be the difference. Otherwise, we would never see a team like Liberty Hill continue to have the kind of success they have against clearly more athletic programs at this point in the year. Silsbee should celebrate the great year they had and work on fixing the small things that created the difference in the game. As far as experience goes, now they have that. Discipline can be created during the offseason, and heart must be brought by the players.

    Class 6A Division I Semifinals
    Prosper (13-1) vs. Duncanville (14-0)
4 p.m. Saturday, Ford Stadium, Dallas
Prosper will need to find something extra in its reserve against a Duncanville team which has reached the Class 6A Division I state championship game three times since 2018. The Panthers have played only one close game this season, and that was last week’s 28-21 win over Westfield. Duncanville beat Bryan (74-13), Wylie (41-0) and The Woodlands (35-3) prior to ousting Westfield. Duncanville will be looking to return to the Division I state title game for a second straight season after falling to North Shore, 17-10, in last year’s championship game. Duncanville also lost state title games to North Shore in 2018 and 2019. Prosper has won 10 consecutive games, including playoff wins over Plano (28-3), South Grand Prairie (38-26). North Crowley (35-21) and Lewisville (24-13). The Eagles’ only loss this year was against its District 5-6A rival — unbeaten Class 6A Division II state semifinalist Denton Guyer (23-6) on Sept. 13. The winner plays North Shore or Austin Westlake for the state title.

North Shore (14-0) vs. Austin Westlake (14-0)
3 p.m. Saturday, Rice Stadium, Houston
It’s hard to fathom it getting any better than this in the world of high school football playoffs. Winner of 54 consecutive games, Austin Westlake will have a chance for a fourth state title in as many years if it can get past a North Shore team seeking its fifth state crown since 2015. Last year, Westlake captured the Class 6A Division II crown, downing Denton Guyer, 40-21, while North Shore held off Duncanville, 17-10, in the Class 6A Division I title game. The last time Westlake suffered a defeat was Oct. 11, 2019, when it fell to rival Austin Lake Travis, 26-25. The Chaparrals have won each of their playoff games this year by no less than 31 points, including a 47-7 victory over San Antonio Brennan last week. North Shore — which manhandled Atascocita, 38-7, last week — has won 27 consecutive games and 73 of its last 76. The Mustangs captured Class 6A state titles in 2015 (against Westlake, 21-14, in overtime) along with crowns in 2018, 2019 and 2021, beating Duncanville each time. North Shore also lost to Westlake, 24-21, in the 2020 Class 6A Division I state semifinals. The winner plays Prosper or Duncanville for the state championship next week.

    Class 6A Division II Semifinals
Denton Guyer (14-0) vs. DeSoto (12-2)
2 p.m., Saturday, Ford Center, Frisco
Denton Guyer has done nothing but coast to impressive victories in each of its outings this fall. Among the Wildcats’ victims are district rival Prosper, a Class 6A Division 1 state semifinalist, which Guyer upended, 23-6. The Wildcats also coasted past perennial Class 5A power Aledo, 44-14. Guyer popped Southlake Carroll, 45-21, last week while DeSoto was even more convincing in a 60-24 thrashing of Killeen Harker Heights. DeSoto’s only losses this year are to Duncanville, 41-17, in a District 11-6A game on Oct. 28, and to nationally ranked St. Frances Academy (Md.) by a 41-7 score. Among DeSoto’s notable victories is a 42-23 triumph of Class 5A state semifinalist Dallas South Oak Cliff. DeSoto captured the Class 6A Division II state title in 2016, defeating Cibolo Steele, 38-29. Guyer won state titles at the Class 4A Division I level in 2012 and 2013. The winner will play Katy or Austin Vandegrift next week in the state championship game.

Katy (14-0) vs. Austin Vandegrift (13-1)
1 p.m., Saturday, Alamodome, San Antonio
Nine-time state champion Katy looks to enhance its storied history when the unbeaten Tigers battle talented Austin Vandegrift. The perennial power Tigers will try to reach a state championship game for the 16th time since 1994. Katy pulled away from C.E. King in the second half last week for a 56-34 win and were fueled by the running of Seth Davis, who scored six touchdowns and rushed for 241 yards. Katy has played two close games this season, but those came in Week 2 and 3 when the Tigers defeated Atascocita, 35-28, and Tompkins, 14-13. Katy’s most recent titles surfaced in 2020 (51-14 vs. Cedar Hill) and 2015 (34-7 vs. Lake Travis). The Tigers, who lost to Westlake, 45-14, last year in the Class 6A Division II state semifinals, have won 53 of their last 56 games. Vandegrift has won 13 consecutive games and defeated Dripping Springs, 27-24, last week after losing to the Tigers, 23-20, in the season opener. The Vipers stopped Dripping Springs on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter last week to hang on for the victory. Vandegrift has now reached the state semifinals for the second time in school history after losing to Temple, 76-35, in the 2014 state semis. The winner takes on Denton Guyer or DeSoto in the state championship game next week.

How well can Westlake handle North Shore’s speed?
Westlake is pretty big up front, and good.   Will they be able to run the ball straight at North Shore and keep them off the field?
This is a matchup I woulda loved to have seen last year, and IMO, is the game of the week this week.
I think Westlake squeaks this one out.

Officiating didn’t cost Silsbee the game.   Silsbee cost Silsbee the game.   Blaming the officials is always the easy way out.   They clearly missed some calls, they always do.   Unfortunately, they missed some big calls.   It’s part of every game.
If Silsbee plays 2 halves of football, it doesn’t come down to a missed call, they run away with the game.   How do you go from giving up 7 points, 24 minutes in, to giving up 41, 24 minutes later?
Cuero made much better adjustments offensively than Silsbee did defensively.   For as great as Silsbee was on offense, to lay an egg at the end of the game was unfortunate.   The officials didn’t do that either.
IMO, Silsbee had the better players, and football team.   Cuero had the better staff, and made better adjustments.   Who’s to say that Silsbee woulda stopped Cuero if they would have ruled the QB down?
Football still has 3 phases and Silsbee was outplayed in special teams, and you can say that cost them the game.
