  1. This game will be decided on the field, not the keyboard.  I think it is great that the players for WB get to be involved in a hyped, big game atmosphere.  It will help them down the road in the playoffs.  Once again, the pre district is about getting better, not about getting rankings. To those from Katy, thank you for supporting your program and having the program.  Without your team being as good as it is, this game would not be as meaningful for our kids.
  2. Elbow injury and strained achilles.  Both players out.  Hopefully back for District play.
  3. The West Brook defense suffered some injuries on Saturday.  Both starting cornerbacks will be out for the Katy game.  I won't pick against WB, but a hard game just got harder.
  4. The TAKS is one week out of 37.  I agree that the label placed on a school by the state for that one week is ridiculous.  At WB, for instance, they push four areas: involvement, fine arts, academics, athletics.  Then they define themselves based on that, not on the label by the state.  Even though they are "recognized" the administration there believes TAKS is a part of school, school is not a part of TAKS.  I have seen athletes move because of coaching.  It can be legitimate in my mind if the new coach is better able to get opportunities for a student to receive scholarships.
  5. Ozen played the same first two games as Central.  I still have Ozen as one of the playoff teams.
  6. There are always a few in any group that are not in it for the students.  Good coaches, while hating to lose good players, realize that participation in an activity is good the sport as a whole.  The other touchy situation is moving within a district.  A JV player at WB might be a varsity starter at Ozen.
  7. Right now I think Ozen would make the playoffs ahead of Central.  If Central's problems are based on a lack of talent creating an inability to execute, they are in trouble.  If, however, mental mistakes are killing them I think they will come back and make the playoffs, provided the coaching staff brings them along.  I have seen both play.  Ozen has more speed, especially on defense.  Central will have to be very disciplined on defense to stop anyone.
  8. It happens occasionally.  As a member of a District Executive Committee, we saw a few Previous Athletic Participation Forms that were obviously marked in anger.  In 5A I have not seen it very often.  The players still must go through the residency requirement with UIL before playing varsity.
  9. Is it really necessary to force West Brook to play Ozen and Central?  The coaches would rather have a full day of each team scrimmaging the other all day long.  Then each team could schedule possible playoff opponents in the pre district schedule.
  10. At this point Ozen has an edge.  An edge at this point means nothing. If Central would please decide are they going to be an "I" team (probably should be), or a "spread" team (probably not), it would help them.  You cannot be both, so they are neither. Ozen has an offensive identity, Central is searching.
  11. Central has to decide are they going to be an "I" team or a "spread".  I think their personnel would work better in the "I", but not my domain to decide.  The loss of Collier hurt their offense.  As I have said before, both these teams have the potential.  Right now I would give the edge to Ozen, but an edge in the second game means nothing.
  12. It is my understanding that the Principal at West Brook contacted Amy Moore about the story and she agreed it was a great story.  Good job by Amy, Mr. Daniels, the coaches and parents.
  13. The track at WB was redone last year and is as good as any in the area.  They used Durley for the 4A district track meet last year.
  14. Polls mean nothing.  Who was ranked #7 week 1 two years ago?  Execution and athletic ability count.
  15. I believe WB will win, but they have to play well. Central is athletically capable.  The bad game against PA does not ruin a season, look at WB and Westfield last year.  This process is about getting better through battle for a young team.  Take the experience against good teams and learn.  In the end it will serve Central well, win or lose.
  16. Sore?  No, but greatness is a matter of excellence and consistency.  PAM definitely is better, so the excellence is there.  The consistency is a work in progress.  PAM deserves to celebrate, and I fully expect to see them beat Ozen badly.  Congratulations on their best start in a while.
  17. PAM could definitely be a shoe in for the 20 4a district champs. Too bad they are a 5a team.  WB would rather play all 5a opponents. PAM brags about beating 4a.
  18. I stated following the Lufkin scrimmage that the kicking game was lacking.  I was told that Stump and Uribe were going to be great.  My reply was, and is: show me.
  19. I will be there early.  I believe a special trophy goes to the winner of the inaugural game.
