1. A few things. Lumberton and Jasper both played hard. Jasper is young and that showed. Lumberton is fortunate that Jasper made some "young" mistakes. Jasper is very talented, but needs the coaches to improve there schemes and crispness. I think Jasper could be very good with alterations to this offense that Bickham is set on running. The hit on the kickoff was a penalty and called one. It was not good, but I do not believe it was with ill intent. The coaches do need to address this with these kids. That one especially and I pray that the injured recovers quickly. These things happen even when they shouldn't or didnt have to. Two penalties should have been called on Lumberton touchdowns. Tripping behind the runner none the less on one that was in the broad open and was obvious and in the late part of the game one of the line men had the left arm and jersey of one of Jasper's LB's that was reaching out to make the tackle. That is part of the game as well, but they should get the obvious ones and those were two of them. Fumbles and mistakes hurt Jasper. Lumberton took advantage. Both teams should fair well. Jasper may do better in their district than Lumberton just from seeing them tonight. Speed can hurt Lumberton. Passing can hurt Jasper. Good luck to both. It is just the first game.
2. Wow, really never thought I would see this happen. Happy and sad at the same time. Two good things. 1) People used sense instead of emotion                         2) Decided to let kids play football instead of being like many small schools with nothing. Several others could start six man like Big Sandy, Brookeland, Leggett, just to name a few. Cudos to Chester for not just dropping football all together, which I did not expect the people to do. The sad part is remembering the 80's and 90's when we were good in football, but then timber industry started getting less and more people moved out, very few moved in and so on. This is the right and honorable decision.
3.
The more I think about this district the more intrigued I am... I would not be surprised if Diboll joins in on the postseason party, and Center, although usually overrated, does have a strong defense and lots of speed... I think Kirbyville takes the top spot, followed by Center, with Jasper and Diboll battling for the last spot... Huntington it appears is on the way to their 30th straight season with no playoff appearances... [/quote Jasper sure has a lot coming back for you to be putting them in the battle for third place. The football team isn't losing a lot like the baseball team is. Jasper beat K-ville in their place last year and didn't lose that many starters. In this offense, they have a good quarterback, and didn't lose much else. Obviously I disagree with this analysis. I do think the preseason outlook should be Jasper and Kville 1 & 2 with Diboll and Center battling for third. That really makes sense to me after last year seasons and the changes in the off season.
4. The magazine has been wrong about a lot in the past, I think they are wrong here. I truly believe that Jasper should be the preseason pick in this district. However, the predictions do not matter right now.
5. Well, I have commented on the Chester situation before. It is tough. I believe they have less than 6 male seniors and probably only three or four are athletes. There are good athletes there, but it becomes very challenging to field a 11 man team. However, as long as UIL will let them, they can play if they have 11. I know this presents the possibility that they could have to cancel throwing others into an extra bye week, but that is just the way it is. I am not saying I agree with it, but it is also hard for a community that has always had football and was once pretty good at it to let it go. It may be best, but still hard for people to grip. I think some people there know that something needs to change, but some hold out hope that the numbers for football will pick back up in the next two years. They need to think about what is best for the kids and the school as a whole, not just their emotions of wanting football. I understand wanting Friday nights to stay the same and the enjoyment that football brings to a community, but when your kids are getting hurt because of a lack of numbers and having to play all the time, you need to consider the health of your kids. If your line averages 160, it is likely your backfield is in danger of injury with the athletes of today. I wish for their sake this were not even an issue. Good people and kids their that do not want to have to try the six man route do to the extensive travel and the change. I know the people there and the new AD will consider all the facts and do what they feel is best.
6. This will be a very interesting district. I like West Hardin, but it will be tough this year to stay up in this pack of teams. Think I will go: 1) Lovelady 2) Hull Daisetta 3) Colmesneil or West Sabine 4) 3b 5) West Hardin It actually hurts to predict this way, but this would be my honest opinion right now.
7. I understand that on the spelling and grammar, but c'mon, really? Going to any major university that upholds academic integrity, you better be sharp and you might as well practice it in all arenas right now. People understand a misspell from time to time, but that was pretty, uh, well, bad. My props to Bulldog Dad were on the class statement. If this guy is going to play in college, he will have to get used to more scrutiny nad be able to handle it. Running his mouth will not help him at all in this area.
8. Lazeek, I was not offended by your rooting for your friends family. I was just jabbing as I believe you were and I didn't take anything as disrespectful. As a matter of fact, you did compliment Jasper in there once, I think. As committed fans of our school teams we are very defensive, as we should be, but some times we cant catch the tones of others in typed words. No offense on my part as I do know from all of your posts that I have read in the past on all the forums that you do not have a habit of offensive statements or stances. JMHO
9. Unfortunately Jasper is letting errors make this worse than it has to be.
10.
Did we lose adminbaberuth and his updates?????
Why dont you go off somewhere and look for him? ;D
11. No, Sowell pulled. 4-0 in bottom 6, 1 out. Thanks for for your classy support
12. Nothing but appreciation and respect for Sowell and all the great effort and pitching he has brought to Jasper for last couple years. Good job.
Bet you are tearing up a little. Just frustrated for the moment! :-\
14. Not liking this! >:( :( ??? :-[ :-\   Not gonna cry yet, it isn't over yet.
15. Just haven't heard that Marlow name much at all. Really have heard the pitcher and catcher quite a bit. Come on Dawgs!
16.
Marlows will have their moment at some point during the game!!!! ;) ;)
You're killing me Smalls! ;D >:( ;D >:( :P
17. Just cannot believe that it wasn't the MArlows that kept them from scoring. Trying to figure that one. LOL
18. Need to take advantage of those opportunities! At least we are getting runners, but cannot squander those chances.
19. Sowell sits em down, but those Marlow brothers.........  Go Dawgs, get a few runs to work with!
20. Used to respect that Lazeek, but he is blowing this out of proportion a little early. Give our East texas team some credit man!!! ;D
