But…. Those tax increases, combined with the more fiscally responsible spending of the 1990s were the last time we didn’t have annual deficits in Washington. If Bush hadn’t raised taxes, we’d already be insolvent. 75 trillion in debt and facing 20% internet rates on mortgages… and SS would have been broke already. Somebody is going to have to be a grownup at some point.

That’s what’s so disappointing… no one understands macro/micro economics. We need tax revenue to provide the services EVERYBODY wants. How about we cut taxes and eliminate Social Security for old people? How about we cut taxes and halve our military. Maybe we should stop doing any repairs to our infrastructure and cut taxes. No…. We want to say “hands off” about the programs that benefit us directly, but still have our taxes cut. Billionaires who don’t pay any income taxes are the heroes of right… most of whom are working stiffs. Reagan’s trickle down economics forced tax increases. Trump’s tax cuts created deficits that will require tax increases. It’s math. It’s not rocket surgery. The bad news is that a country can’t go into bankruptcy protection like trump likes to do.

I’d feel better if it was the last week of October, not mid-July.

What ever happened to the coach that got fired for running the baby fat off of those kids in HF? -
Two things I’m thinking- initial polls are showing no change in polling since the attempt on trump’s life this weekend. But that’s also the same response after Biden’s disastrous debate. It seems like both sides are so entrenched that NOTHING is moving the needle. I believe that Trump’s choice for VP didn’t do anything to gain new votes-it’s just tossing a bone to Trump voters and ignoring the undecideds and/or Dems who are second guessing their own ticket. This thing is going to come down to the wire. It also concerns me that all of the momentum is going Trump’s way 3 and a half months out. Every year in an October there’s an NFL team or two that looks unbeatable- and they either miss the playoff or get blown out in the first round. 3 and a half months is a lifetime, politically speaking. Every time somebody yells “Trump Train” or “Too Big to Rig” it just steels the resolve of people who don’t want Trump to be elected. It would be really smart of Trump and his followers to tone it down and try to lull the other side to sleep. If it looks unwinnable, the Ds will adjust, no doubt. It would be really smart to rein in the BS while it looks like you’re slightly ahead.

Trump Classified Documents Case Dismissed

I love the way that no court’s opinion means a thing until the 6-3 Supreme Court weighs in on it. Or at least that’s the way that the Rs feel these days. “Oh, yeah? That conviction don’t mean _____ until the Supreme Court hears it.” For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. We WILL see an activist, leftist court shortly, and y’all aren’t going to like the way that tastes. #makecourtsimpartial -

Meh…. It’s not like anybody is doing the Mustang Mile, anyways. Not even the Mustangs. -
Beaumont PD new Chief of Police search

My hero Klein says that they’ll appoint an interim chief and then select the actual chief next year after the election in May-the thought being that a change in the board makeup will enable the DEI hire that the city manager and minority members of the council want to make. it’ll be interesting to see what happens. -
Trump Classified Documents Case Dismissed

[Hidden Content] Dem Senator from NY convicted on corruption charges today. IN NEW YORK. Where they are supposedly biased and weaponized against Republicans. A lie, apparently. Also notice how his Democrat colleagues are calling for Senator Menendez to step down... How very un-Republican of them. Both sides are corrupt, the Rs just can't see it from their own. The dems really are the good guys these days. -
Or, they could just be like you and be wrong 100% of the time.

To be clear, DJT does NOT have a final solution in mind. There’s no indication of that-period. BUT it’s obvious that he generates the kind of support from his minions that they WOULD do whatever he asked of them. His rallies literally look like Nazi rallies with the banners and flags. When have you seen another politician generate that kind of support since the early 1940s? I think that a lot of people (myself included) aren’t comparing Adolph to DJT in terms of atrocities, but rather by the loyalty that he enjoys from his supporters who will look past any misdeed since it was “for the benefit of the country.” I always wondered how Hitler convinced the people of Germany to go along with his evil scheme. Watching MAGA overlook and excuse abhorrent behavior, I finally see how it CAN happen. That comparison is warranted.

I don’t know if she’s qualified, but she has actual experience in the department-that fact gets conveniently left out, though.
-
I'm gonna have to agree with Reagan on this one... Biden picked Kamala Harris from a pool of women of color-no one else was considered. That's a DEI pick, without question. [Hidden Content] Who knows if she would have been qualified otherwise? We'll never know, because she was picked primarily because of her skin tone and genitalia. That's not much of a victory for people like her, in my mind anyways.

Good job! Now the people who were already going to vote for Trump are definitely going to vote for Trump! I swear trump doesn’t want to win.

Not excited. Won’t move the needle at all.

Meh… some judges go after trump and some give him a pass. It just proves that the judicial is biased, but biased towards who depends on the Judge. It’s no more surprising than the convictions in NY. -
I wish I knew more about Burgum(?), but I don’t even know his name for certain. Rubio would be my pick, but I really wonder if there’s something to the whole “not from the same state” argument. Haley would shake things up and make one heck of a splash.
-
Isn’t Vance the guy who only shows his bottom teeth when he talks? I can’t trust a man like that not to bite me. edit: *no homo.
-
Perhaps I misspoke. I meant someone who is just trying to be the next Trump. In Pence we got a guy whose attributes complemented Trump, not mimicked him. Do we need Trump 2.0 fighting with signposts as a VP?
-
Drudge is reporting that Trump will announce his VP pick today. Any thoughts on who you'd like to see? I'd prefer Marco Rubio, but I think there's a real problem with residency-the both can't come from Florida, supposedly. I took it as good news that Nikki Haley will be going to the convention after all. It seems unlikely, too, but I'd be good with her ( I voted for her in the primary back in March). I just hope it's not some whackjob who brings nothing to the table but a good "yes sir, mister Trump! You're right again, sir!" I wonder if Vance lost his chance by blaming Biden directly for the attack on Trump in PA Saturday. Thoughts?
-
I guess that’s the problem I have with Trump. We all love a fighter-it’s in our culture. Dude just doesn’t know how to turn it off. He fights with EVERYBODY, and at the end of the day it’s a net negative. Foreigners, the media, democrats, republicans, his own employees. He literally fights with everybody, and that makes him useless.

Yeah… there were four skirts guarding the wagon on the way out. One was trying to get her shades back on, the other was doing her “Shakiest Gun in the West” routine trying to re-holster her sidearm, and they all looked…. Not scary at all. I think we should do better. If the shooter had any skill or proficiency, we’d be singing a different tune today.
-
I loved it, though. That’s two episodes this election cycle that we’ll be talking about for decades. Iconic moment and some great photos-even if I can’t stand the guy. What’s bananas to me is that the debate didn’t move the needle on polling-I wonder if this will. We’re all so set on “our team.”
-
Well, next time let’s nominate an even bigger loudmouth and I’m sure things will get better.
-
But what if the shooter turns out to just be a lunatic of a gun nut? Nobody's "vitriolic hatred" caused it, in that case. And FWIW, that's kinda what it's starting to look like. It's not going to keep anybody on the right from blaming the left, though. And for what's it's worth, y'all didn't have a problem with "vitriolic hatred" when it came in the form of mean tweets. You (Smashmouth) have repeatedly defended Trump's rhetoric in the past... but you don't like it when the left does it back. Which group chants "FJB" at their rallies? Which group popularized "Let's Go Brandon?" Then to turn around and cry about "vitriolic hatred" from the left being the problem is just laughable. Trump disputed the results of the election, then tried to use every legal and illegal means that can be imagined to stop the peaceful transfer of power in 2020... up to and including attacking the capitol and branding the VP a traitor....but then y'all bristle when Trump is called "a threat to democracy?" The fact that no one on the right realizes that they've been at least an equal partner, if not the actual instigators of the escalation in "vitriolic hatred" is baffling, and shows how dumb "our" side can be.
