What in the H@!! can be their side of the story??? It is on friggin video!! How can that be an assumption? They did not make a mistake, they committed an assault to a helpless official with his back turned.
 

Will be interesting to hear the reasoning for their assault on the official.  I guess they made a mistake.  That is the word being used on the thread about the NJ football player.  Again, there is no way either incident should be construed as mistakes.  Stupid arses, maybe.

Excuse me for my intolerance, but I would much prefer that one individual be inconvenienced than to witness many innocent people  be bombed.

When you take a players helmet off and use it as a weapon, it is absolutely assault.  The player and his family should press the issue to see that charges are brought against that kid.

This wasn't a "heat of the moment" issue. That might be shoving another player that is in your face or yelling a profanity at an official after a call.
In this case the play had ended, another play was called and two players had to get together in what is basically a conspiracty to team up on the ref. I think people might be a bit more accepting of "a mistake" if it had actually been something that happened in the heat of a play.
This was a planned attack on a person that was hatched after the previous play was over and both teams got to go to their respective huddles. There simply was no heat of the moment issue. 
The idea that others have done worse is trying to rationalize extreme bad behavior. 

It is absolutely assault.........heat of the moment or not. We hear all the time how sports is a great teacher for life. These kids should get a swift education.

I agree........the problem with this is that there are too many fools that vote these idiots in. They ("Dems") have the built in base with the freebies being tossed about. My hope is that obama drags this country soooooo far down (as he is well on his way to doing) some will have their eyes opened enough to right the ship. Their choice this time round is the pathological liar in Hillary "at this point what does it really matter" Clinton or Bernie "socialist" Sanders. We need to remove the social issue crap out the door..........guys (Hillary included), tell us about job creation, the economy, defense, dealing with isis, iran nukes. Stop worrying about the gays, transgendered bathrooms, abortion et al and please stop the PC crap.......call it like it is. Get it all out on the table.

What if it's true? Is it a surprise to anybody that not all the guys who sign up to make extra beer money as refs are fine upstanding citizens? There are always a few bad apples in the bunch. It doesn't excuse what these kids did, but if the guy was calling them a bunch of (insert slur against Hispanics) the entire game, then making calls that went against them, while they were in a close game against Marble Falls (mostly white)...you could see how a teenager might have gotten heated. These kids need to definitely be thrown off the team, but if anybody else can verify the allegations against the referee, get him away from the game as well, or I suppose he could ref the aryan brotherhood intramural games
