  1. Fall ball means absolutely nothing when the coaches aren’t coaching. I’ll give you an example the year CL went 43-1 en route to winning state their last loss before the in season loss came to Ozen in the back to school battle at Yates . I coached that game we were up 25 on them ,I put the the bench in and they went 7-11 to cut it to 4, cue starters going back in lollll... Both Silsbee and CL won state that year getting revenge in a fall ball the following year means nothing imo especially when it’s not the same CL team.

I watched same three games.  I would go

    1.  Morton Ranch

    2. Concordia

    3.  Dickinson

    4.  Memorial

    5.  Yates

    6.  United

I thought drop off was significant after Ranch.   Tough to say after that.  I think Dickinson and Concordia would be a great game.   But I know Concordia didn’t play particularly well, and Memorial also spent most of the game with Clover in foul trouble.   When he was in, Murphy tended to float outside.

Agree completely on the Yates/United game.  United fell into playing Yates basketball and did so sloppily.   I’m sure they will get much better.  That game was hard to watch at times.

Morton Ranch blows the doors off Dickinson if not for all the subbing . Concordia is just so solid they won’t beat themselves. Memorial is better than some expect , they just need to develop the fresh and he will be very key in how far they go . I thought Yates was surprisingly good I mean yea they lost a lot but the more i watched them the more I liked them.  United has to find some sort of offense structure & be able to make adjustments defensively. You cannot press everyone or just be helter skelter on offense. They have some very good pieces to work with they are extremely long and the coaching has to take advantage of that . I said this about MR and it holds true for United they have too many kids. All of them can’t possibly play top 8-9, trying to play 14 kills rhythm. It’s a 32 minute game no way you can play 14-15 kids.....

Morton Ranch is tough.  They have the best big in the Houston area and arguably the best guard.   They have some nice pieces around them too.

Hoops , MR is too loaded I know it sounds crazy but he was having trouble subbing. He couldn’t leave a player on over 2 min that could come back to get him . It was like that for United . Play the top 8 or 9 and unless someone is in foul trouble then that’s what it is

  4. I spoke to a kid who was on the 2015-16 state championship team . I asked him do they recruit he said no they don’t have to when you win like that because when you are an athlete in middle school and you play sports the best ones go to North Shore. He said Jalen Hurts was suppose to go there but his dad was the coach at channelview imagine that. He also said in middle school that they go thru speed & conditioning drillls starting in the 7th grade til the time they graduate & their position is already predetermined . That is where the problem lies in Beaumont most middle school coaching is terrible. HS coaches have to get their feeder schools on board with what they are doing !!!!!!

One, when school ball is in full swing, so is the college season.   Coaches may visit and catch a game here and there, but that is primarily in an attempt to secure/keep a commitment, not for evaluation.  They want to see a potential power 5 kid play against other power 5 type talent.  The best place to do this is in the late spring and summer, when their seasons are over and the sneaker circuits are in full swing.  I believe McCain has that type of talent, but a coach might be less willing to gamble until he’s seen that talent “translate” with his own eyes.

I don’t think ppl really understand what happens with recruiting . Some think because a kid is good in high school it will translate to college & that’s further from the truth. Devon has high major talent but playing high school ball won’t cut it. There a million kids with his numbers and better.(no knock on him). Will his game translate to the next level we will see coach’s want to win numbers one or they get fired. Character is everything is this game believe that .

I can respect your opinion regarding average Joe ,I also have attended many games in all sports and continue to volunteer my time on campus as well .All I am saying, is regardless of who is coach ,in whatever sport it might be, I can not control who plays and what team they played for only support and hope the team gets better. And although I agree, their may have been better choices, he is the coach for now and have to continue to hope it gets better. I apologize to Mamba and  I will try to stick to BB talk from this point on. The sooner the Central/Ozen mentality dies off the better for all sports.

Come on now you know I’m not sensitive at all ...lol... also for those that say United is not deserving of the ranking ,”most” of the time they go off who’s returning, summer success and college offers . United has a lot of all district kids coming back. I believe Kasen is the most highly recruited out of west brook or United soooooo what’s the fuss for .

  7. My pick is Nederland to win that district they are the most dangerous because ppl assume they won’t be able to compete. They have the best player in Hefner & some solid contributors.  Memorial will be solid but they were senior heavy last year. And of course coaching will be key in this.  Barbers Hill has some good pieces too with Cleveland and Vidor rounding out the district.

I've trained/coached/mentored Kasen Harrison since 2013 . He's staying at Beaumont United. Pretty sad grown men take information posted on social media and make posts like this.

I for one never though he would leave anyways i knew it was just the Silsbee kids inducting him into their click “The Wolfpack”. All these kids are closer than some think so sometimes you never know. But it’s just like anything you may hear you discuss it nothing negative was said about the kid so you can elax it ain’t that serious. PS : if he wasn’t good no one would discuss him lol!!!!!

As someone so eloquently put it to me very recently, he’s never seen an objection over a 5’2” kid from Chester.  (No offense meant for anyone from Chester, you can insert Pineland, Fred, or any other small, but assuredly great small town community.)

Yea TxHoops they don’t need get it lol, but I do believe most Hs governing bodies will change the rule sooner or later especially when their best players start bolting to prep schools ,oops I spoke to much already!!!!!!

That's correct. The key is did the family actually move?

In a lot of these cases the athlete "stays" with a friend or relative that lives in the zoned area where he/she transfers to. I have a little bit of a problem with that scenario.

Yea ppl only tend to have a problem with the ones who can play never with the ones who aren’t as good .

  11. 38 minutes ago, AggiesAreWe said:

If a coach knows for certainty that the athlete transferred for athletic reasons, the coach is obligated to check the box according to UIL policies and regulations. Otherwise that box would not exist.

I would not want to be the coach who doesn't check the box and the UIL rules the athlete transferred for athletic reasons knowing that fact. I would think that would make the coach look dishonest and a type coach who wants other athletes to transfer to his/her school for athletic reasons without any repercussions.

It's really simple. A coach is doing the job properly by checking the box if the fact is the athlete is moving for athletic reasons.

Now, what defines "athletic reasons" can be debated.

Aggies we’ve been around the game for a long time you and I both know it doesn’t have to be checked for athletic reasons if the coach doesn’t want to. I could name kids who have left their previous schools without the coach checking the box but that’s neither here or there I get what your saying though

  12. 1 hour ago, AHUDDLESTON said:

The coach is not holding the kid hostage.  There are rules put down by the UIL that you must follow.  Transfer without moving, you have to sit out. If we don't like the rules try to change them.

We understand there are rules but a coach also doesn’t have to be an a-hole and check the box but he will to hold a kid against their will. And you really think a kid cares about sitting out a year if he is a college level player lol . Ask Elijah Parquet how that worked out ended up at Colorado and i guarantee there weren’t 60-75 coaching watching him in HS ball ....ask TxHoops he will second that .Like i was saying earlier the NCAA has a new rule on transferring. I’m sure down the line the governing bodies in HS states will tweak the transfer rules sooner or later .

  13. I hear what your saying but gone are the days of old none of that matters ,parents want what they want for their kid. I had this conversation last week, we were talking about playing behind other kids on a talented team which was PA Memorial fb. He said all these kids leaving and going to Nederland and Port Neches and they not getting scholarships why don’t they just stay at PA. I told him parents don’t care about any of that they want their kid to shine so they are gonna put him or her in a situation where they can get their name out there and it looks more attractive being the man and not a backup. Yes they would be a good back up but parents want their kid to play ALL the time not part time. They will sacarfice winning for headlines it happens whether you or whomever agrees with it that’s what’s happening these days. People crying about where kids playjng instead of focusing on the kids they have. It’s the coaches job to prepare his time not wonder who wants to play for him or not. Again let them go you may have a better TEAM in the end !!!!!

  14. 39 minutes ago, scoopno1 said:

That was my thinking exactly. I even talked with Coach Green about it. He said it would not happen. I don't like transfers unless the parents move. Over the years we have had too many transfers from Silsbee to Kountze and from Kountze to Silsbee. A large portion of the athletes at Evadale actually live in Silsbee. I would prefer that the kids play sports in the district where they reside. Of course we know that never happens (meaning no transfers without moving) at places like Yates.

FYI basketball is a global sport, kids move around everywhere. Kids will go play with their friends, summer teammates that's just how it is. Kid's are the biggest recruiters not coaches.

  15. Again no matter the feelings on the situation no coach should hold a kid hostage. They don't own the kid its too many of these coaches that think that way. its not up to a coach to decide what's best for the kid, that would be the parents job. These coaches don't get penalized for leaving a school so why should the kid. If you think about it college coaches cant stop a kid from leaving anymore. To each his own but if it were my kid i'd have some words for a coach if he did that!!!!!!

If I were coach Green, he would be playing JV this year cause I would put on his transfer forms he's moving for athletic reasons. But, that's just me.

Why though if a kid doesn’t want to play for you  let him go , I got a lot of words for coaches  who pull that because they would leave a program for a better one in a minute ,more money and etc etc . These coaches always say it’s about the kids then if that’s the case let them go, you don’t own the kid.

I hope its a rumor about Kason.  A lot of what United would've been doing this year would've hinged on what Harrison would do.

Kasen is a very good player and don’t get me wrong it would be great to have him with that group , but as I always say it opens the door for other kids who are just as capable of playing. Development is the key and they have kids at that school who can flat out play.

  18. I believe it all to be rumors until he actually puts on a Silsbee jersey. From my understanding they were just adding him to their click but I could be wrong. If he does leave i expect Glenn Bibbins to take over, he’s a very good defender ,decent shooter & solid all the way around. We all know the motto next up. Projected starters should be Glenn Bibbins,Jakia Oliver,Kendris Henry, Justin Pleasant,Jalyan Subject , that’s still a hell of a lineup imo.
