  1. Yeah, the freshman looked good considering that they are still getting used to playing together and are learning a new offense. Unlike Crosby, Dayton, and BH were the kids play together and run the highschools offense begining in 7th grade, GCM has kids from three different JH's that run three different offenses. Its hard to judge based on one game verses a lesser opponent, but there is plenty of talent there. It looks like bright days ahead for Patriots.

I don't believe the varsity game is going to be as close as last year. I'm thinking 48 - 17 GCM

  2. Ok guys its almost getting to be that time again.  For those of us here what are you expecting from your schools.  I have 2 playing now. 1 8th grader and 1 7th grade.  I think our 8th grade team has a chance to be decent. finish in the 2-3 spot. I dont think they will have it all together to put a run together.  I have no idea about the 7th grade. They have a few coming up but not sure what all they have yet.

    Chime in everyone.

Jus an FYI, Gentry and CBJ have their schedules up on the GCCISD website. Nothing for Highands yet. Ya'll play us on 9/29, and CBJ on 10/20.

  3. Anybody heard if the 6A cutoff number is going to drop? I remember seeing this a while back but was having trouble finding it. I can't see the whole article as I don't pay for the Sun.

How do you think this will impact any GCCISD highschool re-zoning? Also may keep PAM in 6A if this happens.

GCCISD enrollment numbers discussed, GCM could move to 6A with Feb. realignment

Every two years, the UIL takes a snapshot in October of all the public schools in Texas and realign the league’s districts for athletic and academic competition, based on geographic area and school enrollment numbers.

The current cutoff for Class 6A is 2,100, but that number could go down based on the number of schools being built in other parts of the state.

  4. Well, Calvin certainly won it by himself. He scored all but one td last year and he scored them all two years ago. I don't think the current sophomore class lost as 8th graders but were 3-7 last year as freshman because Williams was on varsity. It's very easy to turn around and hand it off to a stud in middle school, but once the kids learn their assignments on defense that doesn't work as well. My son had 4 catches for 106 in the first half on Gentry and when they switched #22 on him, which is their best athlete, he beat him on a bubble screen and the kid went Busch league and tripped him from behind to keep him from scoring making it 4 catches with 3tds in a half. That's how I saw it from my side. That's what the Baytown schools are now, usually one or two studs and the rest so/so which is why the results have been so poor lately.

And he threw every pass, and made every catch and, made every tackle and block. Was on top of the cheerleader pyramid and sold tickets before the game....not hardly. He was by far the most talented player in the district, which makes it hard to notice the rest of the talent on the team.

I'm not suprised to hear about #22 who I believe is the younger brother of ya'lls Williams or so I have heard. He was known to make a few bad decisions. Hear he moved away and will be focusing solely on track.

Also I'll go ahead and brag a little myself. My son was the one who caught the other Gentry TD and made a few other good catches including a leaping grab on 4th and long to keep a drive going. I don't recall naming him Calvin Hill though. lol Good luck to your boy and your Coug's. Hopefully we'll see each other in the next re-alignment.

  5. I might make a keyboard enemy out of this.. But oh well, I have plenty of keyboard frenemys........... That might be the lowest football IQ post I have seen in weeks.... Freshman and JV has absolutely nothing to do with the varsity.. Most schools pull the studs up to Varsity... I always get a kick out of folks saying, but our freshman team was awesome......... It all takes care of itself on Friday nights................ Blutarsky, you look like a newbie, here is the rules..... Like all my posts................LOL............

Not so much a low I.Q. post. More like trolling the "Mighty Crosby Cougars".LOL

  6. I don't want to hijack this thread into a my JH is better than your JH contest. I'm just saying, judging by what I saw the last two years, I don't think this years incoming class, is as strong as the players you have their now. They had some great atheletes, but are they strong enough to sustain the current level of play? We'll see.

Also, yes we had Calvin Hill, but there were several other great atheletes on that team. One player can't win the game by himself. Some will be going to Sterling (Hill), some will be going to GCM. A couple don't look to be playing in highschool or have moved.

ETA: Sorry about the thread hijack, I'll let it drop.

No problem, honestly I wish we could stay on our side of theTrinity and continue playing against the same schools we play in JH. We ain't scared of Code Red.

Now back on topic. I think Crosby will be too much for Nederland this year, but judging by how bad our Gentry JH Mustangs beat their incoming freshman class like a drum the last two years, Crosby will be on the decline soon. Yeah, that's right, I just pulled out the junior high smack.

  8. I was able to watch  the GCM inter squad scrimmage and thought they looked really good. I didn't think they lacked a whole lot of size on the D-line. And what they do lack, I think they will make up for with speed. I think they will hold their own in the district this ye

Maybe they just look smaller standing next to big number 77.

  9. Saw some of the GCM practice this week and the offense is looking sharp. Looks like they have some surprises in store for the rest of the district. Stephen Adams looked strong running the ball. Kid's going to be a handful for most teams. The defense was really flying to the ball. My only concern was that I didn't see a lot of size on the d-line but all in all they look like they should be improved from last year. I'm feeling even more confident the Pat' s will earn themselves a playoff spot this year.
