  1. Not UT Men’s Basketball, but the women just hired Mississippi State’s coach, who just happens to be an A&M graduate. So Texas hired an Aggie to be a head coach. Let the jokes start.
  2. Just happened in the Solomon Islands. 27 people thrown overboard by waves from a cyclone that were heading home for isolation.
  3. I think people really need to commend Beaumont ISD, HF, and Vidor for getting right on it and yes it is tragic that this is happening to places that were just hit two years ago. To put things into perspectives about just how fast things are moving for y'all, my island was destroyed by Typhoon Yutu about 11 months ago, we lost school for over a month that we made up in June. Even to this day, we have 1,000 middle school students who are going to school in a makeshift location in military tents because their school is completely destroyed. 2 other elementary and 2 other middle schools are going half day because parts of the schools were destroyed or damaged. Work has not even started on trying to fix any schools. Another elementary and middle school are combined and going half day because 1 week before school started their elementary school's electrical wires burned out and it will be January before it can be fixed. Out of 14 public schools here on island, 7 schools are still affected after a year. Part of ours is different because the storm (and other things) ruined our economy (government can't fund the schools) and we can't even meet the 10% FEMA match to start rebuilding, but the point I'm trying to say it is very impressive how quickly all the school districts are working to fix things to help the students get back on track.
  4. Where did I ever say that the Dallas or Fort Worth teams do not have a competitive advantage? I said the state championships are not in Dallas but Arlington. It’s a completely separate place and a slap in the face to people from Arlington. Never have I said that it is not an advantage in the upper levels when it’s Dallas or Fort Worth teams against Houston or other teams to have the games closer to them, just that normally the lower levels Cowboys Stadium is neutral distance wise. I also said that when Houston was given the opportunity they did not take advantage with a lot less fans coming that weekend than other years. How do people feel when they hear how good Houston basketball is from outsiders and the outsiders are talking about Silsbee or East Chambers? Or Houston football and then speak about Memorial, WOS or West Brook? Southeast Texas takes pride in having their region with all the schools representing it and you can’t say that when people try to say Houston you don’t want to correct them or that it doesn’t bother a Little because it belittles the region. Arlington takes pride in being the go to place in the metroplex with Six Flags, the Rangers, Cowboys Stadium and even the mall. I only take issue in stating the championships are in Dallas when they are 35 miles away in another city that has over 400k people and even another county with the same population. It’s been almost 10 years the games have been held in Cowboys Stadium give Arlington the respect it deserves and say the games are there.
  5. 1. You stated that North Shore drove to Dallas. They did not they drove to Arlington a completely different city. How would you like it if everyone referred to East Chambers as Hamshire East Chambers. It would be wrong but they are close so it's okay to say Hamshire East Chambers. More than likely North Shore didn't get within 40 miles of Dallas by taking 287 from Ennis. 2. You implied Houston by stating that Duncanville was the home team. The fact that the games were closer to Duncanville than to North Shore is because Houston fans didn't show up when given the chance. 3. The referee situation was mentioned multiple times during the broadcast and on twitter by journalists. Yes the coaches stated that they wanted refs who knew their styles and could keep up with pace. It was probably a coin flip. My facts are straight. I didn't say anything about the refs being fair or not, just that it wasn't some conspiracy.
  6. 1. State Championships are not in Dallas. They are in Arlington. It’s the same as saying something like look that Houston team almost beating Longview in West Brook. Or calling WOS a Houston school. Two completely different places. 2. Houston had its chance to host the state championships a few years ago and the city didn’t show up. In Arlington people show up especially since its neutral for the 2A-4A games and 1A is close for half the schools. Money matters because yes UIL keeps a percentage but a lot goes to he schools playing to help fund athletics. Plus every athlete gets national tv coverage playing in an NFL stadium otherwise only 6A and possibly 5A would get to be on tv. I think a 1A player actually got a D1 scholarship based on the state championship game last year. 3. North Shore agreed to the officials. I can’t recall exactly but it was either they said yes to Dallas straight up or it was a coin flip between Dallas or Houston refs. Both schools said that those were the only two chapters who they thought could keep up with their pace. It isn’t some conspiracy to make sure DFW teams win at the higher levels. Houston had a chance to host and the city didn’t even realize the games were there. As for this year North Shore will win against Duncanville again. Duncanville maybe on a downturn now that Mathis is back next door but they got this year to win one.
  7. Yes. Funny has Dallas Morning News is taking credit saying five for five, yet two of those schools are not even Dallas. Slidell (1A) is near Decatur. Timberview is Fort Worth. Wonder if Brock and Decatur had won if Dallas would have claimed them as well.
  8. Brock v. East Chambers & Madison v. Army. Both should be good games. 3A may be the most competitive class at the state tournament this year. Can't go against Brock and hoping Army can win at home.
  9. off topic, but Gateway Prep should not be allowed in UIL or even be allowed to play UIL schools.
  10. Either Madison, Brock or Army. Good group of 4.
  11. Oak Cliff Faith Family, Wilmer-Hutchins, Dunbar, Lincoln, Carter, Kennedale and Pinkston. All region 2 in DFW and 4 in the same district. Add Argyle and Decatur over in region 1 but DFW schools and it is loaded in 4A. Pretty soon Brock will be up in 4A and Madison could come back up as well.
  12. I'm not getting into this whole everyone hates Yates things, but it should be noted that if Madison was in HISD the player would have been eligible. Dallas ISD is not open enrollment like Houston ISD is with choosing your high school.
  13. This. It's only round two and you already have two top ten matchups with the winners getting another top ten team in the third round.
  14. 1A Lipan is the favorite, but if they have a off shooting night, who knows 2A Muenster and Shelbyville (common opponent Lipan which Muenster beat so I would put them first but they are very close) 3A East Chambers and Brock are the top two by far, but there's also Dallas Madison in Region 2 and Randolph and Cole in Region 4 (I know it's normally the weakest but the military schools if they make it bring the fans and would not sleep on them) 4A Silsbee is top dog, but this is the most competitive bracket. Region I you have Argyle and Decatur, plus possibly Brownwood and Estacado. Region 2 is murders row (Oak Cliff Family has the easiest route). Region 3 is Silsbee and then Yates/Hardin Jefferson. 5A Have no clue as this is the class normally with the most upsets 6A is very open, but matchups will determine the favorite. Region 1 you have about 6 teams who have a legitimate chance to win the region. Region 2 about 3-4 teams. Region 3 about 5 teams. Region 4 about 2-3 teams.
  15. The issue I have is saying that Lipan is not one of the three toughest teams Shelbyville has played because they are 1A. The dragons have lost twice; Spring Hill by 2 and Lipan by 7. Lipan was up at half 38 (34) - 23 at half. Just because they are 1A does not mean they are not as good as the 4A schools in Huffman and Hardin-Jefferson. I have seen a 1A team beat a top 15 ranked 5A team. You cannot use the statement that because they lost to so and so who lost to so and so as a reason. Matchups and shooting can change outcomes. This not the same team as two years ago (which maybe only 5-6 teams in all of SETX would have beat), yes but it is still the same coach and philosphy and only about 15 SETX schools 1A to 6A would beat them.
  16. Lipan, the back-to-back state 1A champions who beat Shelbyville are not one of the toughest opponents? If my memory recalls two years ago Lipan beat Argyle who gave Silsbee its toughest game and just 8 miles down the road is #1 in 3A who won't even play them.
  17. Just noticed. First time I think Ive seen Kennedale or FW schools in Region 2. That region is may be the most loaded I have ever seen one region.
  18. Southeast Texas or all of Texas? Current or Former? High School only or any level? Too many variables
  19. Dunbar will be the team out of Region 1 (Thank you FWISD). Lost to Kennedale by 20 the first time but won by 10 at Kennedale the second time.
  20. This is off topic, but when does Tarleton move up and join the Southland? Know they want to and it would give ACU a close rival plus even number of teams in conference.
  21. According to schedule will be 1A semifinals. Championship will be in Austin next morning.
  22. [Hidden Content] Story from Tuesday's game with box score. All players hit a 3
  23. Considering y'all mentioned Stephenville and Brownwood, y'all should know that region is not a good one to use to compare to down here. Every school around there has equal talent. Just look over the years they have all had their runs. Stephenville and Brownwood are most known because they won state (as did May and Richland Springs), but nowadays De Leon and Comanche are good. Goldthwaite and Dublin have been good. Years will Blanket, Gustine, Zephyr, have been good. Early and Bangs. In that region it is coaching, but the players are much different. One coach there makes a difference because the players are the same. In Beaumont it is different. Not all teams are equal. Some schools have more talent than others and can get by. As for Aledo, they will be better under Buchanan. Not that Wood is not a good coach, but Tim built that program from nothing and he has always been around. He has everyone's respect. Next year will be worse than this year for 5A D2. The only negative from this coaching change is the special teams. For some reason Buchanan would never give that up.
