  1. Being halfway around the world, I cannot begin to imagine how everyone is doing there. With internet I have been able to follow the storm and to be honest I never thought there would be a storm that could turn Allison into a kids meal. I was 7 when Allison came through and living on the south side. Places that did not flood then were 6-12 feet deep after this one. Really tough because there are many students and faculty members that have family in Houston and yet I was the only one knew just how bad this storm was. Hope everyone there is okay. If there is one thing that everyone around the world should know is that while these storms give the Texas Coast there best shot and bring us to our knees, ain't no storm can knock us out.
  2. UIL has said that schools can practice while school is out. I am guessing normal in-school (8 hours) practice instead of 2 a-days, but they can practice. Most schools are voluntary because the players may be in a shelter, with family, or working on cleaning and fixing their house. Schools are also allowed to scrimmage, which is why Barbers Hill is scrimmaging Monday and then playing a game Friday. Katy and Collins are actually scrimmaging Friday night since both teams are without players due to flooding.
  3. I know with Ike, the districts changed to allow games to be played every five days, since most of the schools were effected and unable to play for weeks, but is there a plan in place if a district has one or two teams that are unable to play when district games are supposed to start? I am asking because from what everyone has said and the photos I have seen, I am at wonder if Vidor or PAM will be able to be ready to play next Friday. PAM it sounds like could be longer than just next week. Does anyone know how that would work to accommodate those schools.
  4. If you are going D2 then the state championship has already been decided for that division in 2018 and 2019. And it's not Crosby.
  5. The whole argument of whether crosby and jasper should be playing is moot. Both teams and towns should be happy they are playing to take their mind off everything that has happened. There are still probably 100-200 teams in and around the Gulf Coast who are not playing next week. Heck it has been over 2 years since a typhoon hit where I am at and to this day the one gym on the island for our 3 high schools still has not been fixed. The point is who cares who is playing who and if they should be playing when all that matters is that you are able to play.
  6. Actually it's the opposite. Because of how expensive things are the Pacific Islands have the highest obesity rates in the world. The main food is white rice (eaten 3x a day as the entree) and spam since they are cheap. My specific islands have either the 2nd or 3rd diabetes rate in the world. There was huge controversy when the schools switched to brown rice at lunch a few years ago as its healthier. We should be very healthy though since you sweat off 10 pounds a day. The high is 90 and the low is 82 daily with an average humidity of around 85%. The heat index hits 100 at 7 AM and dips below at 7 PM with midday being 107 normally.
  7. Hawaii and Alaska are bad places to retire because of cost of living. Everything has to be shipped in making things much more expensive. For instance where I live 1 can of Dr. Pepper costs .85 cents and there is no discount for 12 packs. And a meal at McDonalds is around 8-10 dollars.
  8. The El Paso districts (EP and Yslets) are going to be big factor. Right now each has their own 5A district and share a 6A district. One of which, I don't remember which one, already has problems with scheduling and schedules football games as doubleheaders on Thursdays and Fridays. Having the schools go from 2 districts to 3 may not be doable and they opt causing chaos around the rest of the state. Besides that there are 2 other issues in 5AD2. The first of which is Wylie. Unless they get kids to transfer to Jim Ned snapshot day (which they might), they are about 90% gone to 5A. Question is where to put them because the nearest 5AD2 school would be Lubbock or Aledo. The second problem I see is how he or she divided the Fort Worth area because UIL has basically decided never again to allow Aledo with FWISD schools. That will cause a big change in districts as well. While neither of these problems relate to SE Texas they could create a domino effect that will cause problems everywhere.
  9. Thought I would include a photo of the most beautiful place in the US that no one knows about: Top of the Mountain (Picture is too big of a file to attach)
  10. Would rather go to FSM (probably Chuuk or Kosrae) or Palua than this. Water just as nice but probably half the price.
  11. New summer might as well start this topic back up. Me not planning on going anywhere except to the island 5 miles south for a couple of days. Expensive to fly back to the mainland and don't want to go to the Philippines right now
  12. Lipan is not being stopped this year. Closest 1A win has been by 20 against a team they beat by 50 in the second district matchup. Playoffs closest has been by around 35.
  13. Lipans starting lineup is: 5-10, 6-2, 6-5, 6-7, 6-7. Add that with the fact that they are known to a fundamental basketball style team. Crazier stat is that Brock is just as tall and is 10 miles up the road. The two could merge not change divisions.
  14. San Antonio school districts are confusing (think there are 14 just in the city). Just gave a good laugh from where I'm at and knowing the districts there As for manipulating from what I remember South San probably doesn't want a Converse school to win. Big difference between those school districts.
  15. This is funny. The tournament is run by South San Antonio ISD and Silsbees first round opponent is Wagner from Converse ISD. San Antonio ISD has nothing to do with it.
  16. Love going to the middle of the Pacific, but not the 25 hour flights. Am going back today but this time for a couple of years at least. Always nice when flying between the US and the US you have to fly through Tokyo.
  17. More should be fired if this is true. Central Texas education is making headlines but for all the wrong reasons and the worst may be yet to come.
  18. Texas City is in a tough position. Financially it does not make sense to have a 1800 student high school and a 400 student high school, but with the history of both La Marque and the rivalry it will more than likely not be a peaceful decision. La Marque has suffered with the academics and after the hurricane. Right now if you consolidate Texas City and La Marque you have a small 6A school playing Dickinson and Clear Lake schools. I understand the concept of playing who is put in front of you, but the school and the community want to be successful in sports and UIL academics. In a district like that they would not be successful. Community pride comes from success in UIL in Texas. Then if you do consolidate what do you do with La Marque high school? Do you turn it into a 9th grade center or just sell it off? That could cause issues within the community, because I do not think La Marque people would like to see their high school and all of its history destroyed. I am not that familiar with the area, but that it is my guess. They could vote to keep it the way it is if La Marque improves academically, but as I mentioned financially it would not make sense to keep the high school at their current population. Dallas ISD takes a lot of heat for having so many schools with a 3A district and a 6A district. It just does not work. The third option that they could do is rezone in a year or two to have equal student population between the schools. As of now the two schools would be right on the cut line of 4A/5A. If they are both 4A then they would become dominant in district, but if they are both small 5As then it could be difficult in UIL just like if their was one 6A school. Once again, I only know of the rivalry from what I have read, but I do not know how Texas City folks would like having part of their town now zoned to La Marque. Especially the parents who grew up hating La Marque now watching their children playing for La Marque while still living in their hometown. The final idea that could try is the Boerne method which is to have the schools close in population size but guarantee that the two schools are in separate classifications. While Boerne does it because they do not want a cross town rivalry, Texas City could do it because it would be the best option. There are probably many more options, but nonetheless the fact is that is that the school board of Texas City will have to figure out a plan in the next couple of years and the plan will probably need to be presented to both communities so that the majority of Texas City and La Marque are accepting and their is no ill will.
  19. The probably did it because Mary's is on the way.
  20. Run George "King of Texas" Strait Was able to hear it live with Miranda Lambert at AT&T. Perfect, just Perfect.
  21. BYU, Memphis, and ugh Cincinnati should be the top 3. Houston will not be supported by the non-Texas Big 12 schools. Plus having 4 Texas and 2 Texas north schools is the perfect division set up. Adding any of those three schools would complete the north replacing what use to be Colorado and Missouri. Games between BYU and West Virginia would be fun though.
  22. I think they moved one 2A game to Wednesday to make it triple headers for all 4 days. If that happens will be interesting how UIL makes the weeks prior for 2A schedule, since it a 6 round playoff. Sixman will probably have 10 days off being that there only are 5 rounds.
  23. Pretty sure Geno is just the Joe Lombard of women's college basketball.
  24. His choice will all come down to one thing. Who offers the nicest truck.
