  1. Tough to say but this season just like the last two years, it seemed like everyone was playing for 3rd with those two teams being stacked. Next year should change, but just making the state tournament is something to be proud of and something that will never be forgotten. As for the champion surprised and glad that Lipan finally got by Nazareth. Lanie Roberts may go down as one of the greatest players in 1A history, but she had some pretty good teammates as well.
  2. State. Dunbar is there as well. They are 4A forced to play 5A. Only have 800 in the school.
  3. Other thing I just noticed, Levelland is one of two 4A teams to make it out of Region I.
  4. Had time to look it up, it was Brownfield I was thinking of. Last year their star player came back in December and played all the rest of the year while facing trial for 3 felony charges, including one with a firearm. Caused controversy if he should even have been allowed to play.
  5. Will be very interesting. Should be two contrasting styles. Where the refs are from could play a major part, as well as which style wins out.
  6. Playing Levelland with refs from out West will mean a lot more fouls called on Silsbee than even the regional tournament. They are not use to the style Silsbee plays and will call the game how they play wherever they are located from.
  7. Just hope you don't get Panhandle or Concho Valley refs. They will call everything.
  8. Yes, but I meant overall in the playoffs. I thought I remember something about a huge controversy.
  9. Wasn't Brownfield the team that caused controversy with one of their players last year?
  10. Because of UIL switch from free Fox Sports to payment NFHS I haven't seen the finals from this morning's 1A and 3A. 007 do you know who won those games.
  11. The best teams are usually ones that can play both, but I'll choose a mixture. Offense: Plays fast and crashes the boards. Defense: Slows it down and plays physical. The teams that win state need to be able to play shut down defense. You can score a 100 and lose, but can score 1 and win.
  12. Brock won big as well. Should be another good matchup between those two schools on Saturday. In 1A, Nazareth and Lipan both won easily. Lanie Roberts had 49 points on 18-26 shooting, including 6-6 from the 3 Point Line. Heart wants Lipan to win, but head says Nazareth.
  13. UIL released all district alignments yesterday and there have been changes relating to district 20, 21, and 22 5A. Livingston will remain in 22-5A for all sports Baytown Lee has been shifted over to 21-5A for all sports except football (they will remain in 22-5A for that) Caney Creek has been shifted over to 20-5A for all sports except football (they will remain in 21-5A for that)
  14. Seems like part of their punishment is their district. According to the latest UIL alignments, 2 other schools were affected by their new numbers. Livingston has been placed in 22-5A for all sports Baytown Lee has been moved to 21-5A in every sport except football (it will remain 22-5A for that) Caney Creek has been moved to 20-5A in every sport except football (it will remain 21-5A for that)
  15. If its any consolation, the boys have only won 6. It's the panhandle what else is their to do in the winter. Plus out of every town in Texas, and probably the entire country, Nazareth lives and dies basketball. The players harshest critics are their grandparents.
  16. I read the letter from the Superintendent. I understand that it was illegal, but at the same time should students that are never going to be eligible for UIL competitions be counted as a part of the schools attendance? I mean this for all schools. For the schools that are close to dropping it could help the students that can play or participate in UIL. If the Superintendent did turn in the number on accident because he or she did not know the actual rule on Alternative Placement students then I do not think their should be punishment. If he or she did then something, but nothing against the students who did not know better.
  17. Football didn't win. Scheduling issues that would arise if West Brook moved kept them in that district. That is why I asked about volleyball. Football is along 105 Everything else is along I-10 and 146
  18. I wouldn't call Region I weak. They may not have the strongest teams but they do have the defending champ plus their is no favorite in that region. Anyone that is still alive there can still win that region. Then whoever survives to state has been battle tested. Big Sandy vs. San Augustine may be close, but Big Sandy could also easily win every game in their region by 30. That could hurt them come state.
  19. When I think of all the great women's coaches in Texas, Lombard is in my top 4 and it is impossible to be wrong with any of the 4. His son has won 2 state titles at Wall I believe, and I have them both winning again this weekend. He has also won I think 5 or 6 state titles in XC. Very Successful. As for the comment about length and athleticism, 2 years ago they faced Georgetown in the state championship game. Georgetown was defending state champion and was in their last year before the town was fully split. They had 27 players on the roster, including 13 that were over 6 feet tall. 3 of their starters signed with D1 schools I believe. Plus their coach is another of my top 4 greatest. Everything seemed perfect for Georgetown to repeat, but Canyon had a freshman 5'4" who destroyed Georgetown and gave Canyon the title. They are fundamentally sound and I have the Panhandle leaving San Antonio this weekend with 3 state championships with Wall winning another one. They play fundamentals and stress defense. They are patience. It won't be a 70 point game. Heck Wall won on Saturday 28-14. Different style, but it sure is fun to watch.
  20. I am wondering about volleyball. I know that they won and won't play that district but how does that affect scheduling. I am used to the volleyball team playing the same team as the football team at the same location.
  21. Congrats looks like they will get 20 time state champion Nazareth on Thursday at 8:30
  22. Teams stall for many different reasons. I have seen it done because of mismatches that the coach wants to fix at half. Stalling because of leads as you mentioned. Another possible reason is maybe their team was in foul trouble and didn't want to risk it getting worse before the 2nd half. There are many reasons. Some teams play slower than others and are methodical in nature. Thing Georgetown in the 1980s. Not every team good team is going to play LMU style. Each region in Texas plays a different style and when two regions meet one style is usually be more prevalent. That could have been the case. I was not at the LaPoyner Navasota game so I do not have a definitive answer or even know which team stalled. Whichever team did slow or stall obviously did not hurt their teams chance as it ended close. Just because in one game out of 30+ this season there was a 1-0 quarter score line for LaPoyner means nothing. It was one quarter. Tomorrow there coach could decide it is beneficial to run and score as much as possible. He or she might also decide it is best for his or her team to play slow. That is the essence of the playoffs adapting to what best helps your team win.
  23. Maybe they have only won their two playoff games by a combined 174-70. I understand Lipan is not an area school and most don't know about them, but any team in 2A or 1A that can beat them are legit. That is why they have been to state 4 out of the past 5 years losing to the state champ all 4 times. Also for the comment on Roberts the night before they played she scored 57 and is probably averaging around 40 points a game this season. They take basketball so seriously there that their coach had her baby after the regional semifinal on Friday and was back coaching the next afternoon. Like I said earlier it was not mean to disrespect Evadale at all, but I cannot pick against a team that has that win and only two losses. Navasota beat them by two. Navasota is undefeated in 4A and made it to the regional semifinals (yes I am saying they will lose to LaVega tomorrow).
