early season rankings don't mean a thing. Region 3 better watch out for Tenaha. They were my preseason pick to win the region and I'm sticking with it for now. They went to Martins Mill and handed them their first loss on Tuesday 52-44. They are very dangerous with both size and speed. Very well coached squad. They will be hard to beat this year for sure. I agree others in mix are Evadale, Cayuga, Chireno and Lapoynor. Better watch Woden as well. Should be very interesting region for sure.

Girls playing pretty good but moving up to 2A will be a challenge. Probably toughest 2A district in the state. TABC #7 Tenaha #10 Chireno #14 Woden and #24 Timpson all in the same district. We got a big win against Lapoynor 55-52 but then lost to them by 5 in a tournament championship game the next week. Coming to Evadale tourney next weekend.

In a great early season matchup, 2A #15 Chireno got by 2A#4 Lapoynor 55-52 in chireno tonight. Not sure of exact number but chireno has not lost a home game in over 4 years. Last years 4 seniors never lost a game in chireno.

Chireno coach did not submit our players stats but senior Lainey Lee made 114 3's this season. Website lists 1A top 3 shooter at 81 made 3's.

West Sabine has clinched the district championship at 11-3. Chireno finishes second at 10-4. Shelbyville is third at 9-5. If Zavalla beats Brookland Saturday then they are fourth at 8-6. If they lose then they will be tied for fourth with Martinsville and need playoff to determine last spot. District very competitive this year.

chireno won both games of this doubleheader. 7/1 and 11/3

Hats off to Nazareth and Lipan. Chireno did not shoot the ball very well but Nazareth had a great team. Chireno shooter made 114 three pointers on the season but never adjusted to the huge floor in SA. Made just 1-14. Very good year for the lady owls. Hope the young kids remember the feeling of making the big dance and continue to work just as hard next year. It was a great ride this year for sure. Finished season with four losses and two of them were to the two teams playing in the last game of the season.

Thanks REBgp Looks like we will have our hands full with Nazareth but our girls seem to step up for big games. We just might have a couple of tricks left in our bag. Going to be fun either way. These girls have really worked hard to get to this point

Chireno won their regional tournament in Austin to advance to the state tournament in San Antonio. This is a very dedicated group of young ladies. Our community is super proud tonight. Thanks for the memories. Let's finish this thing
