They won't get to be the wrecking crew this season (IMO anyway) but I see it in the future. But heck they don't have to be. They only need to be the "let's get a few timely stops" defense. That offense isn't going to require many shutouts. I don't care who they are playing.

USPS needs to implement a hefty junk mail rate. 3/4 of the mail I receive is useless.

I do not see the situation at Lamar getting any better any time in the near future.

This is the problem with Lamar - Lamar does not have a lot of students that buy into the school the way other schools do.  When you go to Texas, Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, Stephen F Austin and most other schools you move to or near the campus and participate in the area activities many or most of which directly relate to the school - like the athletic programs.  A lot - and I think most - of the students at Lamar commute from their hometowns to attend - my daughter graduated from Lamar in December of 2013 and lived in Liberty the whole time she attended Lamar - I know many other students that did the same thing from many of the surrounding area towns.  Therefore, they do not become "sold" or "invested" in the school like students at Texas and A&M (and others) do.  I went to the college several times and was surprised  at the number of student vehicles that either did not have a Lamar sticker or had stickers from Texas, Texas A&M and other colleges on their vehicles.  Go to Austin or College Station and look a vehicles on campus and you will see virtually every vehicle will have a sticker for Texas or A&M - this is a loyalty question - loyalty leads to attendance at school functions that includes athletic events.

I went to SFA and we were called a suitcase college as a ton of students left every weekend to go home or to other colleges rather than stay in Nacogdoches, Texas.  Lamar's problem I believe is even deeper as the students never really buy into the school they are there because - in a lot of cases - they have limited other options due to (1) having to work, (2) parents cannot afford to pay rent for them to attend college away from home or (3) Married with children and the close major college is the best answer.

The question in the OP was about private industry operating more efficiently than the USPS.

I fail to see how they can and I think my numbers are correct or nearly so. While the contract carriers may be good at delivering a limit quantity of parcel post items, they hardly deal with anything near the quantity of the USPS.

I see a FedEx truck on my street about 15 times a year and a UPS truck about one a week. Even when I see those, they usually deliver to a single home and then leave. That is a far cry from stopping at virtually every address in the US six days a week. If they can deliver a first class letter at less than the USPS then let them do so, noting that the USPS delivers to all addresses for the same cost so a letter to Guam or Puerto Rico is still 49¢.  I am all for free enterprise and if FedEx, UPS and others can do that, feel free to jump on it.

Lastly, since you are talking about efficiency...................

To put it in perspective, $16 Billion per year even at the cost of taxpayer's money (which in this case everyone actually benefits), is 0.004% of our annual budget. So even if you are paying $15,000 a year in income taxes, only $60 goes to the USPS to make up for their shortfall. Just think of it, you will only pay $14,940 instead. I would bet that most people reading this forum are not paying $15K per year in income taxes so their cost for the USPS would be less and sometimes a lots less than $60 per year. So for $60 or less for an entire year (a bit over $1 per week) you get delivery of any number of letters and packages, usually to your front door and six days a week. If we give FedEx $16B a year in tax dollars, can they deliver to every address, six days a week, including Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, etc.? No wait, they would have to do it cheaper so they need to do it for a lot less.

I just don't believe it that it will be any more efficient in this case by contract carriers and even if so, only by a couple of pennies per item.  Out of all the stuff we pay for with our taxes, it seems like the USPS is the least offensive and has a benefit for virtually every person. Compare that to where other places our money is spent.

A comparison with Solyndra is meaningless. Solyndra was a private company that tried to manufacture a product that would be used by a minuscule percentage of people. I got nothing out of Solyndra and likely would not have if had they made it. I benefit from the USPS daily and I would bet that you do also.

And lastly, I ran FexEx for a 10 pound standard rate package from Houston to NY (no overnight or emergency delivery). It was $14.71. The same 10 pound package from the USPS Priority Mail is $10.65. Hmmmm............

Maybe if the USPS charged "private" for profit rates, they wouldn't be in the red.

We need money to go FBS, and we don't have enough to make that move.

I would like to see Lamar go FBS one day, but I'm not going to waste my breath talking about it. If y'all want to see it so bad, start raising money.

Otherwise y'all are also wasting time because a move to FBS is a long way off. Be happy with what we have.

Sorry - but you kill a program for 21 years and then try and restart from scratch this is the net result - years of struggling and low attendance and support.

It will take years to bring this program back from the dead.  Sorry but they need to hire a coach that is used to rebuilding programs and give him 5 - 8 years to get the best players that he can and start by getting a few wins a year and hope - and I mean hope that bigger and better players like what they see.

First - Good job avoiding to discuss the topic at hand. Is the title not factually correct? Please explain how corporations "donating" millions and millions of dollars to politicians (who republicans will admit are corrupt) is in the best in interests of the country.

Second - Do you guys really need me to make the 1000th thread on how the economy sucks? Everyone knows it. Let me know, I can post another topic on the economy which I'm sure will spur intelligent discussion.

Those middle eastern countries will always be in conflicts as long as they keep clinging to their religion. We can't afford to occupy it until eternity.

Luckily most people in this country aren't as fanatic and pick and choose which parts to believe and focus on.

To be fair, Sam did better in preseason (pretty decent) than Tebow did at any time in his pro career.  to be even fairer, Tebow fans imagined most of the criticism he took for expressing his Christian views.  there were a few people who complained, but the majority of people who said he was criticized for his Christianity actually ignored the fact that he sucked.  Then when people said he sucked, they blamed the criticism on his Christianity, rather than the fact that he was a terrible QB.

I will say that I agree that Sam is getting way too much media coverage for a player that was cut from the roster and can't even find a practice team, but like it or not, he's not an ordinary player, and the interest in his career is well above average.  he's getting more attention than he deserves (not unlike Tebow) because he lives a lifestyle much different from the average NFL player (not unlike Tebow).

Michael Sam not signed to St. Louis Rams practice squad
Should have kept his mouth shut - IF - it were ALL about football. Ones sexual preference has nothing to do with how well you can play or not. He made this about something else and perhaps it cost him...

With that said, with all the negative attention Tim Tebow received for his religious views, I only see it fair that Sam take the same heat. One might even learn from history. Teams eventually didn't want Tebow due to the distractions he may bring/cause....

The Rams seem to be making their decision based on the same merit......or perhaps (as some will argue) that Tebow demise had nothing to do with his religious views, he was just a terrible football player (at the NFL level)

NOTE: Tebow fans (and Christians) will never see it this way....So is it the same, Sam was a terrible football player (at the NFL level) , but due to his "coming out, some will only see his demise as his sexual preference..........
