Big girl reacted to tvc184 in Supreme Court ends nationwide injunctions from district judges
Today, the Supreme Court made a ruling that appears to permanently end what has become too commonplace lately, universal or nationwide injunctions.
In the last couple of decades, it has become an issue with federal district judges issuing a ruling in court that stopped a nationwide law or presidential executive order.
Federal district judges are the federal equivalent of a county felony judge in Texas. If you get indicted for a felony in Jefferson County, for example, you will go to trial in one of the three felony courts in Jefferson County in Beaumont. The district judge’s authority deals with a motion or a trial in front of that judge. The district judge is not an appeals court level but the trial court level.
The Supreme Court just issued a ruling that the universal (nationwide) injunction was beyond the authority of the federal district judges.
So when Trump or any future president issues an executive order or the DOJ tries to enforce a federal law, one of the trial court level federal district judges can’t with the stroke of a pen end the order or the law.
The case is Trump v. Casa about birthright citizenship. The ruling today has nothing to do with that case which still has to be hurt. What it seem to do was to stop the federal district judges for putting a nationwide halt to executive orders.
It seems like this has been brewing for a long time and the Supreme Court finally stepped in.
Also Justice Amy Coney Barrett blasted Justice Brown Jackson who dissented in the ruling. Her comment was that Brown Jackson: “Decries an imperial executive while embracing an imperial judiciary”.

Big girl got a reaction from DCT in Trump's recent approval rating
Donald Trump's business dealings with other countries while he was president have been a subject of significant scrutiny and raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and violations of the Emoluments Clause. Key Points: Refusal to Divest: Unlike previous presidents who have typically placed their business interests in a blind trust, Trump did not divest from his extensive business holdings, the Trump Organization, while in office. Foreign Government Payments: Reports indicate that Trump's businesses received millions of dollars from foreign governments during his presidency, leading to allegations of violating the Emoluments Clause, which prohibits the president from accepting gifts or emoluments from foreign governments without Congressional consent. Congressional Report Findings: A House Oversight Committee report revealed that Trump's businesses received at least $7.8 million from officials and governments of 20 countries, with significant payments from China, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Lack of Divestment for Second Term: In anticipation of a potential second term, the Trump Organization revised its ethics policy, allowing for a broader range of transactions with foreign partners and counterparties, including foreign governments. This raises further concerns about potential conflicts of interest. Lawsuits and Legal Challenges: Several lawsuits were filed against Trump regarding his business dealings and potential Emoluments Clause violations. However, these lawsuits were ultimately dismissed as moot by the Supreme Court after he left office, meaning there was no definitive judicial ruling on the matter. Delayed Disclosure of Foreign Trademarks: Trump waited until after leaving office to disclose hundreds of foreign trademarks he owns, including a significant number in China. This delay raised concerns about the lack of transparency regarding his foreign asset holdings during his presidency. Examples of Potential Conflicts: Examples include the Trump Organization's trademarks granted by foreign governments, such as China, and real estate projects with connections to foreign governments, particularly in the Middle East. -

He hasn’t addressed the economy, Obama care and or the war. His immigration policies are smoke and mirrors. His cabinet is a complete joke. He is not an outgoing president. Then again he may be impeached come midterm. You may be on to something.

Because people recognize a power trip doesn’t make them a liberal. What will he be selling next? Sand from Mar-a-lago that turns the skin Cheeto orange.

Don’t say nothing to me about attacking police, looting, or vandalism. You have no ground to stand on because you praised your people as heroes for worse behavior. The violence in LA has been amplified by corporate media because violence sells ads. Nothing has happened that local authorities couldn’t handle.

That’s an understandable response. I’m not posting to advocate for the Amendment. Only to tell my wife’s story if asked, and to let people know the Amendment will be on the ballot. It will be up to the voters as it should.
I only found out about the legislation from an email today. So, I haven’t read it yet. Only the email I attached, and a few news blurbs later today.
I will point out that the government spends over $10 billion/year for cancer research, and treatments are coming quicker than ever with AI. Universities do not research without grants & they charge an average overhead of 30%. Perhaps the authors thought the taxpayers would get more bang for their buck with a mandated 5% cap if they were going to fund research studies anyway. Attract some of the talent away from other places (Texas Universities —where our tax dollars already go—and elsewhere). I don’t know. None of this will probably be in time for my wife of 36–almost 37–years.
I will say this:
My tax dollars are spent to provide family restrooms at SOME Texas restaurants stops. I never really thought they were necessary, or even thought much about them at all, because the men’s and women’s restrooms had changing boards. Then, my wife was diagnosed with corticobasal degeneration—which is a very cruel combination of Altzheimers, Palsy, and Parkinson’s. When she became unable to use her entire right side, unable to dress, eat, speak clearly, brush her teeth or hair, bathe, walk, sit, stand, or use the bathroom by herself, I realized that I had never thought about our aging population, and the number of people with dementia and/or Altzheimer’s that have to have assistance in the restroom. I’ve also seen more and more disabled vets who require assistance. Handicap facilities do not help these folks.
There are far too few family restrooms, and—like handicap parking—someone is always using them who has no need.
I have found that most men are generally okay with me bringing her into the men’s room if I holler at them first. The women don’t allow me to come in with her at all, and they don’t usually volunteer to help. So, she comes in with me.
Just one of the things we have to plan for when I take her to DFW area to see our grandkids—who don’t understand what’s wrong with Nanny.
The private sector will only fund research when they can make a profit. Big Pharma will always be Big Pharma. The Texas Medical Center is focused on diagnosis & treatment. Not research.
