Yes, I love this.  Someone claims to be the Enlightened/chosen one but is unaware of any of the current scandals.  Enlightened, what do you think of this statement:"  If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it PERIOD."  Oops, I forgot.  You probably haven't heard anything about that.  Now what was your name again?

one reason there are so many low paying jobs in Tx is the fact that the federal govt. ie. Obama wont secure the borders  because to them a vote and retaining power to line their pockets is more important than the welfare of the American citizens!

From " The War on Poverty: 50 Years Later"  A House Budget Committee Report

    The Causes of Poverty
    Family

Perhaps the single most important determinant of poverty is family structure.  It has been the subject of fierce academic debate since the Moynihan Report- named after is author, then- assistant secretary of labor Daniel Patrick Moynihan ( Democrat)-was released in 1965.  The Moynihan report identified the breakdown of the family as the key cause of poverty within the black community.

More recent research on Americans of all backgrounds has backed up Moynihans argument.  SIngle women head less than 20% of all households but they head 34% of all poor households.

Poverty is most concentrated among broken families.  For all families, the poverty rate was 13.1%  But 34.2% of families headed by a single female were considered below poverty, and 22.8% of households composed of unrelated individuals were consider to be in poverty.

Why is it that there is a nursing shortage in Texas?  Why aren't you living/working somewhere that you find the poverty rate to be acceptable?  How do you want to lower the poverty rate in Texas?  The poverty rate in Texas is unacceptable and is attributable to Governor Perry but the National Poverty rate is not attributable to Mr Obama?  Very interesting and extremely convenient.  Am I understanding you correctly?  Do you believe we can legislate poverty away?   Do you believe the government can eliminate poverty?  If you do, google "War on Poverty" and all the trillions that have been spent on it over the last 50 years and let me know why the poverty rate is little changed.  So the rich get richer and the poor get poorer?  Is the answer to that problem confiscating (via the tax code) more on the rich and simply GIVING it to the poor or should we find more and better ways to make the poor capable of improving their lot in life?  I would think that even you could admit and acknowledge that the government is a very poor manager ( as proven UNEQUIVOCALLY by the current VA mess) and should not be looked upon as the answer to every social and economic ill there is.  One more thing:  When you do your research on the internet, don't confine that research to ThinkProgress.Org

Menu? We don't need no stinking menu!  :D

Yeah, there are a couple of items on the menu but the most common by far and best is to make your own. It is like going through the line at Subway or Freebirds but instead of a build your own sandwich or burrito, you build a grilled (kind of like stir fry but dry grilled on a large plate/grill.

You pick the meat(s) you want (cubed marinated beef, shredded beef, sausage, ham, pork, chicken, and others), season it with a dozen powdered/granulated flavors (sea salt, pepper, lemon pepper, ginger, garlic, dragon salt, etc.), put in your vegetables from 15 or so to choose from and then pick your flavored sauce(s) to season it with. Give it to the guys/cooks doing the grilling lastly pick the base/bed (they call starch) like spiral pasta, udon noodles, white rice, brown rice, cabbage, fried rice or tortillas (tortillas?).

You pick from small, regular or large bowls. I get the regular because I know how to really stack up the vegetables. You can fill your bowl with meat but you won't have much room left for the veges. Unless you are just a big time meat eater and ignore vegetables, it is better to go lightly with the meat on your first trip. I see newbies go through the line and get crazy and stack the bowls with meat (like a kid in a candy store), then figure out that they have room for about half a cup of vegetables that when cooked turn into about two tablespoons. Now if you are a meat eater and don't care about vegetables, load that sucker up.

My favorites are the shredded beef for protein and spiral pasta for the bed. I like all of the sauces but usually pick Honey Soy, Chili Garlic or Ginger Citrus.

Not saying that at all.  But I believe you attach too much importance to grade point averages.  Furthermore, the degree opens the door for you, but you still have to produce and are NOT ENTITLED to anything by the degree except  for a first chance.  There is little, if any correlation between grade point averages and success after college.

Wow, the Republicans would be against anyone that is against Obama. Stunning right?

But you make the point very well. It is politics that drives the masses, not race. What Dr. Carson would do if he supported Obama would give the Democrats another chance to scream that race is driving the disagreements..... but as we have seen, that is not the case. You use the term "any blacks" like the Republicans only support anti-Obama people if they are a dark skin color. It is a simple truth that the Republicans have a strong dislike for Obama but they even impeached Clinton. Does that strong dislike count or only when it is a different race?

You might not have noticed it but the Republicans aren't very fond of white people that support Obama either. It doesn't matter how much melanin is in their skin but where they stand politically.

Not being SBC but familiar with from listening to him through the years, I am very much inspired by this story as I had no background on this.  It is tragic that so many of our seminaries in all denominations are being run and taught by men and women who do not believe the word of God and view it as nothing much more than good literature!  Tragic!!  And why we have the moral morass that we see in our society!!!

From my perspective, any reasonable and sensible person who "stands up to Obama" (politically) is a hero.  From my perspective, Mr. Obama is an idealogue whose only priority is social justice regardless of the cost involved.

Dr. Carson is guilty of the sin of being a highly intelligent, successful and respected black to have the audacity to state the obvious. That is that a welfare system that allows people to take without any need to put in any stake in the process is doomed to the failure of allowing most people to languish is poverty. When there is no incentive to succeed, most people will not and only demand that other people pay for their lack of desire and then complain when they do not get enough handouts.

He is not a hypocrite. He is a person that is degraded and ostracized by his own race for being successful. How dare you come from a poor household in a black community and not demand more welfare, while trying to get people to strive for success and being self sufficient.

In rebuttal, many people only can point out that he had some help in the past and that somehow makes his statements wrong or hypocritical for his mother being on welfare more than 50 years ago. Maybe it allows him to speak the truth because he has seen it from the inside. His detractors spit out labels like hypocrite like it somehow hurts him or baffles his supporters.

What Dr. Carson has done is yet again show that race does not matter, political stance does. Many and maybe even a majority of the same people that hate Obama would vote for Carson tomorrow.

Did the name callers on here listen to what he said? Not just hear it, but listen? He was talking about the system. He was not putting people down. He was talking about human nature. If you continue to hand people things for "free" without requiring action to improve, human nature will take over and you will want more for continuing to do nothing. If he is an Uncle Tom, whoopi is too. Her rant reinforced his comment on fixing the system. But she is loud and uses hand movement, so she is speaking gospel? Come on. The man is pretty remarkable. But he is conservative. That translates to Uncle Tom from PAMFan10 and BG. He forgets where he came from? I doubt that. His success is based on where he came from and not wanting to go back to that. If he wore a Lions jersey and stabbed people, that would mean he keeps it real, PAMFan? Quit reading headlines and look for a story.

The whole "Uncle Tom" insult seems pretty offensive to me, but not nearly as offensive as to who i've seen it directed at.  i've heard it a lot in reference to those who have a problem with people milking the system for all it's worth.  I'm not sure why a tax payer, based simply on skin color, should find it acceptable for a person, REGARDLESS of skin color, to make bilking the government out of thousands of dollars a month a full-time job.  I see it in my line of work all the time.  We have parents come to school and try and convince us to sign papers stating we believe their child is ADHD.  In some cases, they may be, and it is simply a worried parent.  But oftentimes they just want them to be diagnosed so that they can collect a disability check on said child.  Yes, you heard right.  A 3-year-old diagnosed as hyperactive draws between $300-$400 a month disability.  Seeing as the government also pays for their medicine for the disorder, I'm having a hard time understanding exactly why that "help" is needed.  Is it because the "disability" keeps the 3-year-old child from becoming gainfully employed, perhaps?  Oh wait, they're 3.  When it comes to government assistance, there is PLENTY of fat that could be trimmed.

Of course you dont want him to succeed.  He believes that ultimately, one lifts HIMSELF/HERSELF out of adversity and dedicates his/her time and efforts to bettering himself/herself rather than lamenting about his/her situation and how unfair it is.  Nobody is saying that the poor shouldnt be helped.  What they are saying is that we need a system that encourages the poor to get themselves out of their circumstances rather than making them believe there is a certain "nobility" to their circumstances and there is no limit to the amount of time that they can remain on govt assistance.

If you agree then why do you try to undercut so many comments that come from a Christian worldview?

It would be best to study up on this
Colossians 2:8 J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)
8 Be careful that nobody spoils your faith through intellectualism or high-sounding nonsense. Such stuff is at best founded on men’s ideas of the nature of the world and disregards Christ!

Matthew 7:23 J.B. Phillips New Testament (PHILLIPS)
22-23 â€œIn ‘that day’ many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we preach in your name, didn’t we cast out devils in your name, and do many great things in your name?’ Then I shall tell them plainly, ‘I have never known you. Go away from me, you have worked on the side of evil!’”
