Heck in 2016 Carthage wasn't very good until something clicked after we eeked by Silsbee. 16-0 isn't the only way you can win state. I'm from Carthage and I seem have more confidence than some of you WO-S fans. Yall lost to a phenomenal team. Learn from it and try to get back to AT&T. Funny how some of you had full confidence in the staff during the winning streak but not enough confidence that they can coach a team not as talented back to Austin.

Right, I believe they (Carthage) finished 3rd in their district and won state that year.

Out of all Carthage's state title teams only two were undefeated and a couple of the teams looked really bad in scrimmages and preseason. WOS will be fine. If they played week 10 they'd probably bust the scoreboard on them. Your coaches get paid to coach and make adjustments. All of you who are freaking out shows a lack of confidence in the coaches (assuming it's WOS fans freaking out)

At the time of the incident, it had nothing to do with football. Kid was on JV and no one was sold on him being QB. The family is saying that the school did not do enough to stop the video from distributing but I honestly don't know how that could have been done. All in all, my money is that he won't be the QB in Carthage next season.

Tell them to call Coach Nelson at 409-...  Nevermind, I wouldn't want my Jaguars to get embarrassed by a 3A school.  But maybe it would be a good thing because some of these city kids don't take what it takes to be a winner serious enough for me.  A good but whopping by some country boys might do the trick.

Carthage hadn't won a championship ever. Had only played in 1 in the history of the program. In the 7 years prior to Surratt arriving in 2007, Carthage had 2 1-9 seasons. Had not been out of the 2nd round of the playoffs in that decade. Surratt comes to town and 11 years later he has more championships than playoff losses. The jimmies and joes did not change. Coaching matters.

But SPORTS is not a requirement for graduation. So a child should be required to get a sub par education if they want to play sports? How is a home school kid who lives in the district playing sports hurting anything? Most parents are just putting education FIRST.

This is the second time I've heard this argument on this thread. It's VERY possible for a school to not be good enough academically but good enough for extracurricular activity. Sports and education are two different things and I understand parents wanting the best educationally for their child. Why have kids miss out on a valuable part of life just because they want a better education. We have kids that play for us who attend a different school. If they're school doesn't offer the sport, they can play with us.

We'll never know.  Here's what we do know... Carthage won the state title in a higher division.  In football that says a lot.  I know WOS had a great team.  But it's impossible to say what they would've done in a higher division.  In the past WOS hasn't done well when in the same division with a lot of those schools.  I know it's a different team...but still don't know.
Here's what else we know.  WOS had a couple of nice preseason wins.  I think Bridge City and Kennedale were good wins...but the other schools on the preseason schedule were not that impressive.  Then they played a joke of a district (except Liberty was halfway decent).  They beat Bellville, Giddings, and Navarro in the playoffs which were very similar to Liberty as far as talent level.  I'm not taking anything away from WOS because they had a perfect season.  16-0 and did it in convincing fashion.  But to say the state champ in the division above them isn't close...I just don't know about that.  I'm not convinced any school WOS played in the playoffs would've gotten past round 2 or 3 in a division higher.  Again..I'm not saying that Carthage would've beaten WOS last season.  They probably wouldn't have.  But Carthage winning the D1 title is a heck of a lot more impressive in my opinion just because of the way it had to be done.  D1 was so much deeper than D2 it isn't even funny.  

I don't see it as bragging and it's actually a cool fact. This is the time of year people come up with anything to keep the football convo going.

Depth would be too big of an issue. The defense would be wore out by halftime. Now if it were a video game where you could turn off fatigue, that Defense can play with anyone in the state but even with that, the offense cannot put up the same numers fatigue or not.
