i can understand roy o's frustration... 9 starts, 9 quality starts, a 2.66 ERA, 60 K's, and a 2-6 record.  the astros have scored a total of 18 runs in his 9 starts.  it's tough to win games when your team scores two runs a game when you pitch.

i saw an espn analyst, i don't remember which one, who said the mavs have enough parts to trade for him without giving up dirk.  if cleveland is faced with losing bron bron anyway, dallas would be a good option to trade with, as they could probably get 3 really solid young players in return to start their rebuilding.  dirk and lebron and kidd plus a good defensive center would be a lot like the celtics team that won a championship a couple of years back, with the difference being that i'd give dirk a slight not over any of the boston 3 party, and lebron a HUGE nod over any of the 3.  even if they did trade dirk for him, simply pairing lebron with a hall of fame point guard would be a step up from what he has in cleveland, plus if they did trade dirk, they're going to get to keep haywood and maybe butler or terry.  i'm definitely curious to see what happens.

The good news is that Roy is pitching well this year.  Last year he was kind of hit or miss, but he's driving his value up some this year, so maybe they'll get some good prospects for him if they do trade him.

After being swept by the Jays last weekend, they've won 5 straight, including a big 2-game sweep of the Angels.  They've increased their lead to 4 1/2 games, and are 7 games over .500.

[/quote] Henry has a lot more to offer, soccer wise, than david beckham ever did, although he's not the superstar that beckham is outside of soccer.  this move will cause less of a stir than beckham, but is much more exciting for us real soccer fans.  he's had a tough year with Barca due to injury, but he's still a bonafide superstar, even if he's no longer in the category of the best players in the world.

soccer's a second class citizen in SETX.  many of the players prefer to play other sports instead of playing soccer year round.  That's not the only explanation, but it's a partial one.

isn't this the case pretty much every year?  "great" recruiting classes that either don't materialize, or the players come and underperform.  I'm with Lumber... i'll believe it when i see it.

i watched the game, and the tackle was pretty nasty.  i thought it was a red card foul when i saw it.  there were also several fouls in that game committed by portsmouth that should've been carded, but the ref wasn't handing them out.  if he had been, this foul might have happened.  the only good news for me is that i don't particularly like germany or ballack, but this still sucks royally for him.

Jefferson County Commissioners on Monday approved plans for the pier restoration project at the park, located on Pleasure Island in south county. Precinct 3 commissioner Michael Shane Sinegal said plans call for the pier to be rebuilt as it was before - a lighted walkway jutting into Sabine Lake - but concrete bulkheads will replace wooden pilings. Don Rao, the county engineering superintendent, said the county plans to start advertising for bids on Wednesday, and in four weeks, should open the bids to contractors. The project is about two months ahead of schedule, Sinegal said.

In what may already be a lost season in Houston, Astros fans can at least look forward to watching Roy Oswalt pitch every fifth day. Houstonians had better savor those starts since it is no guarantee Oswalt will finish the season in Texas. Oswalt, who has a full no-trade close, said in a Thursday interview on XM's MLB Network Radio that he would not automatically close the door on a possible deal. Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle wrote earlier this week that the Astros may have no choice but to deal Oswalt. With Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman off to dismal starts, Oswalt is valuable trade bait for GM Ed Wade.
