That's interesting. I can't remember which game it was but it was an away game where the opposing team was obviously taking their time subbing in and out while trying to protect their lead, keeper taking time shagging ball, defender kicking ball to the stands, that the center ref said he was adding so many minutes of play to the game which makes me wonder, was this an unusual event? Do local refs do that or have the discretion to do it?
I have seen refs stop the clock when teams attempt to that, but i dont know that i have every actually seen refs add times
ditto.

Is there A SETX Comeback player of the Year?
bullets13 replied to rip2506's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
i've seen some of that in a few of these award threads, but not in this case. Washburn was nominated by frogger, who's identity i am not at liberty to reveal, but i can assure you that person has no vested interests in nominating her. then washburn's mom chimed in to comment. That's a far cry from her mom getting on here and starting a thread to convince everyone that her child deserves an award. This comment might have merit, but not in this thread. I'm also in agreeance with a certain post that i had to delete in reference to the fact that in MANY sports of many classifications a comeback player of the year is given. there's no reason not to give one here. -

now 5-3, should be 7-1 if not for two blown saves by francisco. they've got a tough schedule coming up. they finish with cleveland tmorrow, then have 3 @ the yankees, 3 @ the red sox, and then three @ home against the tigers. if they can go 4-5 over that span, i'll be happy. anything better than that is a bonus. -
Bullets, I know the way this is set up does make a popularity contest a possibility. We could work on a different format for next year, but I feel that there needs to be some kind of recognition given to the local soccer players like that given to football, basketball, and baseball.
i absolutely agree. i think it's great what you're doing. i just figured i'd take the time to at least ASK the people to do their best not to make it a popularity contest. -
ALL SETX GIRLS GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR
Bullets13000, I do believe it makes a difference. The 3A and 4A girls play in the same district and have enrollments that are closer then the big 5A schools. If the keeper for WB only allowed a couple of goals in her district then by all means she should be the 5A top keeper of the area. Just name another one for all the 4/3A teams that played one another in district.
that's what all-district is for. this is the all-setx team. it would be pointless to make a separate team for 5A considering there's only what, two 5A schools in our area? I can kind of see where you're coming from, but it really doesn't work in this situation. -

No contest.
that cracked me up...... I am still laughing. That's cool, if they out man us then they have the right to win the contest. I am still laughing!!!!!
I'm gonna have to agree! I just looked on every poll, and on each where there was a lumberton player she was either in the lead or 2nd highest! Funny stuff!
exactly what i was trying to address in my post on the thread about the all-setx nominations. -

down 5-0 now, looks like another loss, and possibly another shutout for the stros. if they don't score, this will be their 7th loss in a row to start the season, and also the 3rd time they've been shut out in those 7 games. they've also had a game with only 1 run, and a game with only 2. they better figure out a way to jumpstart their anemic offense! -
ALL SETX TEAM NOMINATIONS - VOTING OPEN UNTIL APRIL 25
bullets13 replied to hj_hawk_60's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
there's a reason why several of the other sports do not consider fan voting in making their all-setx teams, as well as when they do rankings. it ought to be pretty evident why based on the results of several of the polls so far. unfortunately, there are only two (well, now four) moderators who spend any time in this forum at all, which is nowhere near enough to get a fair amount of opinions in picking a team. this means we're relying on you, the fan, to be fair in your voting. this is not a popularity contest, and it's not about voting for all of the people that go to your school or your child's school. vote for the best player, and if you don't know much about a particular group of kids, don't vote at all in that category. -
I don't think a 5A keeper should be included in the list with the 4A teams. As far as the 5A keeper shutting out the 4A teams, big deal. They are biggers schools and should beat the 4A teams.
She also allowed something like 2 goals in district against 5A schools. She shouldn't be excluded from this list. In fact, the current leader in votes right now plays for a 3A team. These lists aren't about classification, but about performance. -

I understand that they did not count and someone will probably have something to say about this.. but the ball did hit the back of the net. Tatum Crochet should be added to this list. She only allowed one goal in district play.
so they didn't score? ;D -

Frank "I suck this year" Francisco blew his second save opportunity in a row, as the Rangers lost 4-3 today after leading 3-1 going into the 9th. The rangers are 2-3, but should be 4-1. They've missed a really good opportunity to have a wonderful start to the season. -
Be careful Sully and Bullets. These are tough times in the newspaper industry and I'm sure RC did the best he could. He does not have the Club background and years of watching these girls play. I see some arguable mistakes on almost every All-Star and All-America team. Be glad for the publicity. I mean they did pick Poole as player of the year. If you don't like their team, post your own.
like i said, misinformed. that's not really an insult. as you said, he's doing the best with what he could. it's tough to make informed decisions based on incomplete stats, a club background, or years of watching them play. making an effort at all is commendable, and i'm sure the kids who make the team are quite pleased about it. -

Also, Nederland with 11 is too many. 24 of the 44 kids honored came from two of the seven schools in the district. Those two teams were definitely the best in the district, but come on. and for the record, i'm an HJ alum with absolutely no ties to any school or player in this district. when i was sophomore, i played on a U-18 team that was made up mostly of some of the best players from WB, Kelly, and Lumberton (which were all stacked at the time), with a few other players from the area who were from smaller schools but were all really talented. We had a record of something like 30-1-3 on the season, won several tournaments against teams from houston, dallas, and san antonio, and finished 2nd in the state only because for some reason they had the state tournament set up in a round robin format, and we tied for first in our group and lost by one in goal differencial. there's no reason at all that if you took the best players off our best teams, and a few standouts from the smaller schools, that we couldn't have great teams come out of this area.
If we unify the best talent from this area, girls and/or boys; we can WIN BIG against the fragmented Houston teams. UNIFICATION is the key.
agreed. and compete against the best teams they have.
