1. it would be really nice if slovenia and algeria did us a favor and played to a draw.
2. A really solid performance by the US, and a very valuable point!
3. You're right, Bon, Torres and Buddle should be starting.
4. I didn't really feel like waking up for the S. Korea/Greece game, but i'm glad i did.  It's been much more entertaining than either game yesterday.  I've been really impressed with S. Korea.  They're up 2-0 right now with just a few minutes left.
Who do you see taking the second place if Australia doesn't?? Slovenia or Ghana? I'd Say Germany is by far the favorite to win the Group, but IMO Australia will more than likely take the second place
It's actually Serbia, and i kind of expect them to finish 2nd, but with this group anything could happen.  Australia didn't impress against the US, and they're in one of the toughest groups in the tourney.  It's not that i don't think they can advance, i just wouldn't go so far as to predict them to do so at this point, considering they're probably the 3rd best team in their group, and in one of maybe only 3 groups in the tourney where all 4 teams have a realistic chance of advancing to the knockout stage.
6. good analysis, Chocolate, except i'd only give Australia a 20% chance of escaping their group.
7. unbelievable start!  and he struck out the last 7 he faced... usually the batters do better after they've seen the pitcher a couple of times in the game.
8. I was pleased.  3 goals, none on set pieces, another goal that could've been allowed, two more shots on open nets that would've been put in by jozy, and only one goal allowed.  my only real concern was our defense of crosses, but landycakes blamed it on the ball, and i'm inclined to agree with him.  this was a pretty dominating win over #20 australia, especially considering the score could've been 6-1, and should've most certainly been at least 5-1.
9.
This was my take from early this morning (about Midnight to 1:30AM) in the ship channel under the lights. The largest two were 20". The smallest one was 16.5". I caught about 20 but most were undersized at about 14.5". The seven I kept were fairly decent size though. [IMG][Hidden Content]]
you know, i'm off for the summer now... i'm out of town for a couple of weeks, but when i get back, we should go.  i like to fish, but i don't like to eat trout, so you'd be welcome to my haul...

11. alright, i'm in.
12. the two strikes he hit against the US in the federations cup made me sick to my stomach.  it would sure be nice to have another player who is able to score from outside of the 18.
13.
The Russians hose the Americans in the gold medal game of baseketball. Replay shows Mike Renfro in bounds , Oilers lose to Pittsburg. I don't think Mel Renfro touched the ball that John Mackey took to the house, Colts win the Super bowl over the Cowboys. Lions beat the Steelers with a coin toss mess up in overtime. Was told Aquillard pushes off Nederland defender, Indians steal of victory.
and all of those are the exact opposite of this situation, which makes it seem much less of a problem to reverse this.  the outcome of the game last night doesn't change, but a player gets the honor he deserves for doing something that only 20 others have done before him.
14.
ESPN MLB - Tigers P Armando Galarraga presented lineup card, shook hands with Jim Joyce before Thursday's game
i thought that was pretty cool, and also seeing the emotion that the umpire showed.  a lot of class shown by both of them.
15. if he's fine, i'd like to see him play to build some chemistry up top... but if he's anything less than 100%, i'm with you newcastle.  let him rest.
16. He was the player i idolized growing up.  I hate to see him go, but i'm glad he's not dragging it out.  It's time.
17.
While the blown call was OBVIOUS, I kinda agree with Commissioner Selig in not overturning the call (man, "agree with Commissioner Selig", I never thought I would utter those words!!).  While the call did cost someone a personal achievement...and admittedly a historic one...it did not change the outcome of the game as far as a win or loss is concerned.  I am sure that Selig saw the potential of being called on to reverse a lot of calls if he had acted on this one.
Changing the call wouldn't effect the outcome of the game either.  I agree that the argument could be made to go back and change other calls, but there's a difference between this happening in the 4th and 9th innings.  If the same thing happened in the 4th, and he pitches a 1-hitter, there's no way of proving that a lack of pressure contributed to him not giving up another hit.  In this case, being the very last out of the game, the call completely screwed the player, and had no bearing on any other facet of the game being played.  That being the case, I would like to see them reverse the call.  The whole situation is an atrocity.  I don't see how anybody can look at what happened last night and say that the element of human error involved with the call was "good" for the game.  If anything, it will turn off the casual observer towards baseball.
18.
Selig just said no, the call stands.....Once again, ML baseball is a dying sport.....
I don't really understand that... are they "protecting the integrity of the game" by allowing one of the most brutal mistakes in the history of the game to stand?
19. We fished the intercoastal last weekend.  No trout, a few reds, and other assorted junk.  there are tons of crabs out there, if you're interested in loading up on blues.
20.
4 maybe 5
sounds like me and hippy have a chance, then :)
21. For what it's worth, the umpire went after the game and found Gallaraga in the tunnel and apologized face to face.
